Do you remember the boy who fought you in the primary school playground, because he insisted you were staring his way in racial contempt? Remember the boy who laughed at you riddling at the blessed dot that sat charmingly between his eyes. Remember the boy who started an accapella band, so he could bring friends together who often didn't belive they in themselves. Remember the boy who harra**ed the highest goverment officials, andf no matter how hot the were on his tail he always managed to stay a step ahead long enough for them to give in.Remember the guy who got up on stage, slayed MC, and brought rappers and floets to their knees. Remember the guy who lit a match at the club, not to light a cigarette, but because the bouncer told him he'd smash his face in. Remember the guy who wrote a song about the souls going to a special place, whilst damning all the tragedies of the world. Remember the guy who had a girlfriend before boys were even interested in girls. Remember the boy who took you home for weekends and introduced you to Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, Ray charles and Etta James. Remember the guy who stood up to the school bully, and though he couldn't fight came back everyday to tell him that no matter how many times he got beat he still wouldn't be afraid of him. Remember the boy you beat up getting drunk because he stole your mom's car, threatened your sister and distrespected your friends... in your apartment. Remember him, because for reasons we cannot fathom he lived his life the best way he knew how.We may have loved him or hated him, but through it all he always managed to be and prevailed in being. I will never forget, because though I am often shaken, he showed me what it means to have real strength... he proclamed Defiance all his life and even when they mocked his dot. He shined
