who pays for your hip hop lifestyle

hip hop as a lifestyle carries a heavy price tag...those G-units,branded jeans,branded t-shirts ,the music(cds) and the magz... like" the source" its not cheap....the internet time...the concerts when the odd overseas cat comes to perform...how do people do it?....unless your parents are in the right income bracket....it's all so expensive!!!

I dont think al of those are a part of the lifestyle at all.
I may sound like a broken record by now, but all that is just the exploitation of the lifestyle. Its what the media wants to hip hop to look like. That way they can make money off the little wannabes all over the world.

I admit that there are times when you'll see me and just be able to tell that I'm into hip hop. I own two Fubu jerseys, not because I think its hip hop, but because they actually have unique designs that I haven't seen in streetwear before. But what if I were to be walking down the street in nothing but my Adidas sweatpants and a white t-shirt with my dubstars cap, like I usually do. Did I stop living the lifestyle then?

To me the only thing on your list, is concerts and cd's. Didn't mean t diss or sound harsh.

Guys who make their own unique gear and publis their own mags to me are more hip hop than the rest.

Me and my bboy'ing crew battled a another crew this weekend... let me set-up the scenario:

They we're "pimped" out in Ecko from head to toe and I swear those sneakers cost more than my sisters university bill! We we're dressed casually odd label here and there... AND WE WON!!!

Anyway back to the topic, media projects hip-hop as a bunch of guys wearing platinum chains, driving bentleys and with 3 hoe's on each arm... THAT my friend ISN'T hip-hop. When i see a bboy busting his stuff on a street corner, a writer getting-up and spitting a ill piece on a wall, a emcee spitting lyrics of meaning to those who apreciate underground hip-hop, a dj smacking beats to make a whole crowd move - that's when i realize what true hip-hop is...

with hip hop becoming mainstream ,people seem to think that you have to have x,y and z to be part of the culture...in south africa where there's so much poverty and unemployment etc....hip hop has to be more than what's on the outside....i think Mode is on point...

I feel u wear what makes u feel comfy.If its looking all thugged out (which seems to be most ppl's perception of a person who's into the hip hop lifestyle); or rocking shorts and slip slops with a stretched out t-shirt.........bottomline is to me it doesnt matter what the clothes or what.If u like hip hop, thats cool.

I for one, dont rock the so-called "hip hop gear" cause I dont feel like it.I'm happy in my surf-style holiday shirts and cargos.Thats just me.or if I wanna be semi-formal, thats just me.That doesnt make me more or less hip hop than the next.And besides, who really cares what the next thinks of u........if ur cool with being u and ur not harming urself in the process, or others for that matter, then thats all cool.

Oh and the cd's and concert tickets, man they so over-priced anyways, u may as well stay home and buy them cd's from the indie stores.Way cheaper.Also, usually the really tight artists r cheaper than the 50 cents of the world.Btw, REM coming down to SA as well.........would be tight to see them but them prices gonna be way too much.If they could take it down to R100 or even R80, I'm down with that.But of course they wont. :x
