Nokia Unveils iPod Killer

reserved.

Finnish mobile manufacturer Nokia has introduced the Nokia N91, a mobile handset with room for up to 3000 songs on an integrated four-gigabyte hard disk.

The device offers an industry standard 3.5mm stereo headset jack and permits transfer of music files from a PC or over the air.

The N91 is encased in stainless steel, with dedicated music keys on its face, which slide down to reveal the phone keypad. The Nokia N91 is a part of the new Nokia Nseries range of multimedia and smart-phone handsets.

'What sets the Nokia N91 apart is the fact that it is always connected - you can download new music while on the move, add it to your favorite playlist and then share your playlist with friends,' said Jonas Geust, vice-president, music at Nokia.

The N91 serves up to 12.5 hours of battery life and includes a stereo headset with remote control. The device supports MP3, M4A, AAC and WMA digital music formats.

The mobile offers WCDMA, WLAN and Bluetooth connectivity, permitting music downloads over the air.

Users will be able to drag and drop their music collections from a PC via USB 2.0.

The Nokia N91 also allows users to share playlists with others by multimedia message, e-mail or Bluetooth.

The device also contains a 2 megapixel camera, e-mail support, a web browser and video sharing.

The Nokia N91 is expected to become commercially available worldwide by the end of 2005 and will retail for around 700.

Actually Dom, I dont think ur way off at all.Though with the advent of all this new technology, Cd's as we know it are slowly becoming a thing of the past so we wont need burners per se', but what we would get is recorders of some sort.So basically, u may have a company like Shure and Roland linking with Sony Ericsson or some of other and creating a possibly cellular mobile studio in the palm of ur hand. Its really not impossible anymore, or rather not implausible anymore.Imagine something like the new Nokia 9300's and u could be looking at endless possibilities.A virtual mixer on some Acid Pro Mobile and SoundForge Mobile.A tight SM-58 Mobile mic with sibilence, hiss and built in pop filters so wherever u go, ur recording is crystal.  8)

yeah,,, it looks like shit compared to the iPod, but it leaves the iPod in a technological dead-end like betamax or lazer disks.

why have a bulky (but cool looking) mp3 player, when you can have that *and* a phone,,,*and* be connected to the net so you can get podcasts as they happen, and have a camera, and personal organiser etc etc?

i think apple have done enough with the iPod now, it's already had a 'halo' effect on sales of apple computers (people love the iPod, so they buy the cool computer to go with it). they are smart enough to move on to something else.

imagine an apple phone,,, now we're talking!

yeah,,, no arguments there,,, apple is waaaaaaaaay overpriced. sometimes i can't even believe i spent so much money on this shit,,, but i've been using macs since day one and i have never had any stress unlike my poor unfortunate PC brethren who are constantly getting viruses, losing their life's work and other such PC horrors.

who drives a ford if they can afford a merc?
