^^ You call it, considering this: nominated for a SAMA, and "Comfort Me" played to death on almost every radio station.

well i'm calling it 'bad' then because that's about what me and tru have sold hand-to-hand (admittedly very cheaply, but still). we've probably given out more than 100 copies for free too. still haven't even broken even yet. it's coming tho...

i dont believe this. A report I read stated that he had sold 4 000 copies within the 1st two months. The recording company was aiming for 25 000 before the end of the year. @ some point I heard that he is sitting on 7 oo copies, not bad  perharps because i was not crazy about the album, but I understand why many other people would buy it.

The other thing to keep in mind is that recording companies lie / cook sales figures as a way of creating hype around a particular album. It's so hard to find reliable verified sales figures on local music.

thoughts that struck me when i read this
1) theres so lil money in commercial ZA hiphop (when i say money i mean revenues beyong R1 mil etc)
2) but then we doin it 4 the love of the music arent we
3) a nigga needs he';s degree and job 2 fall back on
4) are we the supporters of hiphop the biggest threat 2 it, not buying units anymore but coping that stuff like a mother?

ANYWAY
Black August looks like it was dope in NY.
Mos & Kweli & a range of underground staples came thru in a benefit concert to raise money for AIDS victims in Africa.
I appreciate this initiative.
I wonder how much they actually raise every year>.. :?
