JUzz i was wondering

you out in portugal right? how bout letting me know about the scene there, coz i know for sure there´s a big graf scene, but in terms of rap, what can you tell me? :-]

I´m in Portugal and England occa**ionally too.
In Portugal, it´s really blowin up in Lisbon, lotz a catz from Africa immigrate here cos of the language and get influenced quickly and and put out their shit, lotsa new artists, portuguese rappin in Portuguese/English and French. Da French are f´ing takin ova Europe, coming out wit some real good ish. Neway, lots of hating goin on though which pisses me off, but you know how it goes.

Things are picking up in South Africa. I think that there is a need for a site like this and for a magazine. This would obviously help us consolidate what is happening in south africa. This would give rise to awareness both locally and internationally.

In addition I´m currently setting up a shopping cart on this site which should be live around june/july. this would give all independent artists in africa the chance to sell their albums/singles on a consignment basis.

One of the other things is the need for a national radio show that is unbiased towards all south african rap artists. what i find in this country is that hip hop is being "run" by people who have a bias towards their own crews/friends etc.

This is not healthy for competition.

In addition we also need to start working together. You won´t believe how arrogant some "veterans" are in this country who do not want to share their history with us. Some of these people have information/pictures/demos from the 80´s they won´t share with the wider hip hop community because they want it for themselves exclusively.

This is damaging.

This site is based on the open source idea. The more we share, the more we trade, the more we support each other, the more chances are that hip hop will grow and eventually become an industry where we can make a living off it.

but there are hundreds of hungry emcees ready to go to war so to speak. I think one of my challenges is to do an offline supplement for those heads who don´t have internet access. There are also plans to translate this site to Xhosa, Afrikaans and Zulu, but that´s probably only going to happen next year.

I´d like to know more about the portugal scene though.

yeah im in contact with all the guys trynna build make shit grow cos cats in jozi and cape town be ignorant towards cats from other areas.watch this site for more p.e. hip hop just building with the guys depending on the peeps to help the shit grow.today we went to some revenue thing they speaking about registering so that they cant take your shit when you have cash one day f*** it cats dont make a cent and them they have the nerve to say the govenrment is helping us damn to tell yall cats our arts and culture does nothing for the cats out here so we decided f*** them do for self make our own shit blow the f*** up with or witout there help.big ups to everybody thats realistic cos cats think they gonna make money off the shit :-|

funny you should ask that, because i have a ton of tapes from back in the day of this particluar radio show. however, i got one problem. recording from ca**ette to my pc is a bit of an impossibility because my amp is a bit effed up, hopefully getting a new amp soon.

but get this, now this is a scoop, you hear it here for the first time.

Shaheen (DSA from POC) and Big Dre are going to be putting out a cd where they will be having the "best of..." snippets/freestyles from this radio show.

I´ll keep you posted. :-]
