Ngoan’a Nts’oana’ is a term of endearment which was used by Core Wreckah’s grandfather during his lifetime. A crude translation yields ‘Child of Nts’oana’, with Nts’oana being the name of a being whom Core himself never did figure out the origin nor purpose of. This is not Sesotho funk. This is not mountain pop. This is hardcore hip-hop delivered with a gutteral growl akin to the style which has been perfected by the long-standing tradition of Basotho freestyle rappers (liroki), and replete with call-and-response chants which have become a staple of Basotho music.

For those who don’t know “Classic Dirt” is a compilation tape by San, the Instru-Monumentalist (who hails from Lesotho) and Phil the Kritik (who hails from Uganda), two beatmakers/producers currently stationed in southern Africa (Lesotho & South Africa to be precise). The project in simple terms can be explained as the end product of like minds, the consequence of understanding the musical and artistic benefits borne from international relations. Classic Dirt brings together on one record, some the world’s finest emcees, producers, vocalists and poets to wax lyrical with prowess over production by the Kritik and the San.”

I’m Skebza, member of Hipnotica (a 4 man Lesotho hip hop group) and I would like to mention that we also have hip hop heads here. Hipnotica recently released a 12 track Ep that I’ll soon send to AG. I believe in the unity of crews to elevate African hip hop and hopefully with the assistance of such people like you all nations will receive the recognition they deserve in hip hop. With many unsigned Lesotho and Freestate (OFS – SA) rappers bringing out CD’s I believe that something should be done to help these artists progress in hiphop. frozenslosh@yahoo.com
