Cape Town based Faculty of Hip Hop has released Vol 2 of their Ghetto Series CDs. 3 time African Hip Hop Indaba Award nominees, The Innovators have been included. They have 2 songs on the 12 cut CD, Timeless and 2 Questions. The later deals with the issue of xenophobia, whilst “Timeless” is a dedication to important figures in African Hip Hop’s history as well as telling the story of being a young & ambitious individual…

The April/May Issue of HYPE hits the shelves on the 11th of April 2005, together with the second mixtape Smirnoff Spin HYPE Sessions Volume 2 featuring some of South Africa’s illest MCs of all time. The line up includes Outrageous Record’s new release Proverb, Hip Hop Pantsula’s Re-mix featuring Skwatta Kamp’s Slik as wel as Selwyn. Pretoria is well represented with Ba4za and Joint Custody.

Multi-talented actor, composer, producer and performer, Will Smith, and Grammy Award-winning rap star Ludacris are to headline at MTV base 100th LIVE!, an exclusive concert to celebrate the launch of MTV base, MTV’s first pan-African music channel and MTV Networks’ 100th channel worldwide. Talented African artists, Lebo Mathosa, Mandoza and Seun Kuti will also perform at the open-air concert on 20 April 2005 in Johannesburg, South Africa, playing to an audience of up to 10,000 fans. Highlights of the show will subsequently air on MTV channels around the world in May 2005

A young woman from Whaleyville will be the hostess of a hip-hop music video show to be aired on a Los Angeles television station on Friday, April 1, and Friday, April 8. Lesley Bunting, 23, is the third winner of a new reality television music video countdown competition. She won the opportunity to be on the show through an Internet site, www.winyourowntvshow.com and hopes it could help jumpstart a career for her in television.
