Mad Half Hour Open Source Mixes Competition

25 September 2005 No Comment

YFM, Gauteng’s leading youth music station, has partnered with the Go Open Source campaign, and Creative commons to launch the ‘Mad Half Hour Open Source Mixes’ competition. The competition is open to all YFM listeners, and will highlight awareness of both Creative Commons licensed music, and open source software…

The competition will give aspiring DJs and producers the opportunity to create their own half hour music mixes using samples and music supplied via Creative Commons’ licenses. Open source software (OSS) tools for creating the mixes will be available, but contestants are not restricted to just OSS applications in creating their mixes. The Creative Commons’ licensed samples will be available from the same site and contestants must use these in their productions.

The radio show will also carry pre-produced spots with information about open source and the Go Open Source campaign, a South African specific campaign that is raising awareness and promoting the use of freely available open source software.

Featuring in Harambe! with Bad Boy T (weekdays from 15:00 / 16:00) for seven weeks beginning on 5 September, entries for the Mad Half Hour close on 2 October, and entrants will be judged on the 3rd October, with the top ten mixes played on Harambe! from 10 October to 17 October. The winner will be announced on 24 October.
