Titled ‘Africa’s most progressive mixtape’, the Kunta Kinte conscious clothing Mix Tape Vol 3 [off the chain] is the greatest accomplishment and contribution to the contemporary African Urban music landscape. With the success of Volume 2, which featured Slum Village on a track with Zimbabwean rapper Metaphysics, who is probably the best ambassador for African hip hop, vol 3 indicates the future of African hip hop, and indeed that of the world…

It features seasoned veterans, such as Brooklyn emcee Maino on a track with Nas ‘’shootouts‘’. The revolutionary but gangster half of Dead Prez, Stic-man
blessed the mix tape with his track ‘’Sign of the times‘’. Stic – man felt that he had to contribute this song to the continent where he was stolen from.

Inspectah Deck [wu tang clan] features on Metaphysics’ joint ‘’Smile‘’ and the other Wu tang affiliate 4th disciple adds some flavour with an intro drop.
Also on the mix tape are some underground USA acts such as Pandamonium , Truth Universal , Poizunus , Eclipse , Raw Dialect, Shaliek , Freshmakers , Mzery and Mad barz.

From South Africa 3rd World Riders and Young Nations definitely come through with some political lyrics on Southern Africa. Rapper Ty carries the flag for the UK on ‘’ Sophisticated and Course ‘’, whilst Zimbabwean rappers dominate this mix tape with OUO [Of Unknown Origin] spitting some mad lyrics on their joint ‘’Rock n’ Roll ‘’ . Karizma’s ‘’Playing my Position ‘’ puts Zim on the map. Some of the other Zim rappers riding on this bandwagon are DKR, Carlpritt, Alka Nemo and Begotten Sun.

With the creative mixing skills of DJ Mujay, this mixtape has illustrated that African hip hop artists can compete with the best in the world, granted the opportunity.
