Lady in the Water Movie Review

16 September 2006 No Comment

Apartment building superintendent Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti) rescues a young woman, Story (Bryce Dallas Howard) from the pool he maintains. When he discovers that she is actually a character from a Chinese bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in our world.

M. Night Shyamalan has been known to annoy many critics with his "what a twist" endings making many of his movies pointless to watch if you were told the ending. Thankfully there are no "what a twist" endings in LADY IN THE WATER though there are some twists.

It’s interesting and humorous the lengths Cleveland has to get information about the bedtime story of Story from one of his tenants who doesn’t speak English and he doesn’t speak a word of Chinese.

LADY IN THE WATER has one of the most interesting plots of the year if not original plots of the year, odd ball characters great actors and the best part it actually is a modern bedtime story. A kids movie but not.

If you love M. Night Shyamalan movies then you’re going to enjoy LADY IN THE WATER and if you hate his movies then LADY IN THE WATER could be the one to win you over.
