AMU...NITION
"stick your fingers out/see what you about/so i can take you out/
if you ain't married....
so we can talk about/ what you think about/
me and you girlfriend going steady..."
yessss... the chorus to track #4 on "future sounds of msawawa", written
produced and performed by amu(aka AMU-NITION), one of the phattest
hiphop cats in soweto... we caught up with amu, his boy wicked and
their manager thabiso at holiday inn - green mkt square last saturday..
here's what amu had to say:
URB: so when is amu dropping his solo shit?
AMU/THABISO(simultaneously): early 2000!
AMU: we got eight tracks laid down already.
URB: what's it gonna be called yo?
AMU: for now i'm looking at "schizophrenia" as a title, but it might
change...
URB: what other stuff do you gys have on the DL?
AMU: we have township frequency, a group consisting of myself, andile
(pointing to wicked), loco of o'da meesta and this other cat shorty
skills.
URB: so you looking forward to tonite's performance?
AMU:...been looking forward for a while now.. we have to come and
put it down for cape town..
WICKED:"i want halff"(confuses me)
URB: so what's the deal with cube, and also ghetto ruff?
AMU: we dropped the muthaload on cube and....
THABISO: i had to pay R20 000 to get him outta there...
URB: ...and lance... ghetto ruff?
THABISO: lance tried to jack amu away from me a couple-a-times
they still owe us money from yizo yizo, so i pulled him
out of the ashaan video as well...
AMU: like when we had to go to durban to shoot the e'smile video..(of
which the money was supposed to go to an ashaan video), lance
calls me up and says that the car is full and thabiso has to find
his own way to durban - when i got there we were only 3 in the car
URB: so amu my brother... what about the future?
AMU: you see... there's this group of kids man... their skillz...
shit is tight - they're called "squatter camp".. i wanna work
with them in good time. on my own little empire..
URB: and this little empire is what?
AMU: why... township frequency entertainment of course.
