BES' SHAYI IGETDOWN
- by DA OOPSTA
Last night Club Yeah-Bo hosted the Cape Town launch of Bongani Njloi and
Inadiflo's album's and they played us the videos which was quite
interesting. As Lindelani said " Sony is here" Chris and Lindelani was
clearly excited about this new project, namely Ebomvu Productions, a concept
run by Gabi Le Roux & Bongani Njoli which brings out Cape Town talent.
So yeah the evening was hot as hell as soon as the food and drinks started
moving. There was Smirnoff chicks serving double tots of Smirnoff. Shit - my
ass was out like a mother. Also in the place to be was Itumeleng, da editor
of Y.
looking slicker than a mofo. Motswako couldn't make it so I had to stand in
for him and entertain the ladies. The floor was pumpin' when Robin da man
rocked the Mafoeta jams, slamming it up the wall while I was gettin' down
with one of the Smirnoff chicks. Gabi and I also had a nice chat bout Kwaito
and the state of it, the story which should reach you soon via Y mag,
hopefully? Yeah so all the ballers were out there watching the very
interesting video of Bongani Njoli. It is a very simple video which I really
liked. Beats wise no one can fuck wit' it. Lee Downs was the host but his
ass
was in there for one minute da next he was gone.

206 VIRGINITY ALL UP IN THIS...
Friday 27 August 1999, sees Virgin Records South Africa, in conjunction with
206 Live(Gauteng's only club for the more discerning punter) release a
second
mixed album of Phat and Furious Breakbeats.
The album, appropriately titled "206 Mix - 18 Heavyweight Beats" is mixed by
206's
resident Friday evening funkster, Myles and features 18 outstanding tracks
from artists
such as Fatboy Slim, Propellerheads, The Freestylers, Les Rhythmes Digitales
and The Wiseguys.
To put it simply, it's 66 minutes of funk.
The album was compiled over a period of 5 months, and only tracks that got
the dancefloor
"jumping" were considered for selection. The mix is flawless, and is
intended to let the
listener re-live the 206 Big Beat Experience, in the comfort of their own
lounge, bedroom,
car or walkman.
The album will be launched at 206 Live on 27 August.
Special guests, taking the stage for the evening, all the way up from Cape
Town, will be
S.A.'s finest hip-hop crew, Prophets of da City - featuring Ready D and the
Azanian B-Boys
(with DJ'ing and breakdancing like you've never seen before).
After P.O.C's set, it will be the turn of the Turntablists, with 206
residents Myles and Kevin,
goin' one-on-one with Ready D on three turntables. They'll attempt to
produce the same mix that
appears on the album (18 Heavyweight Beats), only this time, cramming all 18
tracks into 30 minutes,
instead of 66 minutes. This will be followed by a short display of what
hip-hop DJ'ing's all about
(again courtesy of Ready D), and then the evening's usual mix of hip-hop,
big beat, jungle,
electro and acid-house music.
Freestyle will be the key word for the evening.
With MC's, B-Boys, the country's finest DJ's and an album like no other
released in this country,
there is absolutely no reason why you should not be at 206 Live on Friday 27
August to experience
18 Heavyweight Beats.

EISHHHH JOE!
here was an old professor who started every class with a vulgar joke.
After one particularly nasty example, the women in the class decided to
walk out the next time he started.
The professor got wind of this plot, so the next morning he walked in and
said:
"Good morning, class. Did you hear the one about the shortage of whores in
India?"
With that, all the women stood up and headed for the door.
"Wait, ladies," cried the professor. "The boat doesn't leave until
tomorrow!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A blonde went into a world wide message centre to send a message to her
mother overseas. When the man told her it would cost $300,
she exclaimed, "I don't have any money, but I would do ANYTHING to get a
message to my mother!" The man arched an eyebrow, "Anything?"
"Yes, anything," the blonde promised. With that, the man said, "Follow me."
He walked into the next room and ordered, "Come in and close the door."
She did. He then said, "Get on your knees." She did. He then said,
"Take down my zipper." She did. He then said, "Go ahead... take it out."
She took it out, grabbed hold with both hands... then paused. The man closed
his eyes, and whispered, "Well...go ahead!" The blonde slowly brought her
mouth closer to it, and while holding it close to her lips, tentatively
said,
"Hello, Mom?!"

IN RESPONSE TO:
Leon Myburgh's Response to I think, therefore I am
by - BRIAN E EBDEN
It is absolutely clear by your tirade of my piece that you are part of or
have bought into the global gay/feminist & vegetarian lobby's tommy rot of
not eating red meat.
It also appears that you are also quite intelligent and unfortunately not
well studied in terms of your argument. Your argument supports, without
doubt, this global trend which ultimately reduces and seeks to reduce the
resistance factor/capacity of people of colour against white supremacy.
So, before I continue with this debate, let me re-iterate the title of my
piece being,...."I think,....therefore I am!" The entire debate is
predicated upon this title. Unfortunately you missed the woods for all the
trees by denouncing, out of hand, the motivation to eat red meat with a
pretty weak counter argument.
So lets begin....
1. I at no point in my piece ever said, all we have to do is to eat tons of
red meat. Nowhere in this have I advocated quantities of this vital
nutritional requirement. In as much as you clearly state that you don't
dispute what I say on the one hand, on the other you openly state it is a
load of BULL shit (excuse the pun). This is a contradiction in terms.
Nowhere have I stated that one should not exercise and coop your behind up
in a cave and chow down on hunks of beef. That is a ludicrous statement to
make. My piece advocates eating red meat, not porking out on it.
2. I will deal with the next two points collectively. Firstly, your
statement on evolvement obviously says and supports the racist
ideology/THEORY that we were fish/frogs?/whatever swimming around in the
so-called primordial soup, decide one day to become amphibians, then apes,
then proto humanoids then modern day humans. Let me prove how confused you
are....
As an obvious protagonist of the evolution theory, you claim as humans, we
evolved from herbivores into omnivores. The evolutionary theory says we
were at one stage fish or some sort of gooey matter in wholesome beans
soup. One wonders what fish ate and still eats, and are they judged to be
herbivores or carnivores or omnivores. To support my argument without this
rubbish of what books, titles authors, scientists etc (and the diatribe
continues..sigh, typical; white male logic..tut tut), one has to use common
sense, logic which is inherent in humans (mind you this includes those who
eat red meat) and look around to see who are the most ancient humanoids
known to man then, and now.
One does not have to be rocket (or pocket) scientist to see in plain sight
that the SAN (Boesmanne, hotties, bushy's, //Btwa, Gouringhaicona, Namaqua;
Outeniqua etc. etc.) have been proven to be this.
Let me state this in plain kombuis......Wat vriet hulle,.. ne?
So they were and are confused/silly ex herbivores. Even though the
genealogy and meat eating habits can be traced in its purest form to
250 000 years or more. Egyptians (Ta Merry & Ta Nehiti) and Etiopians [no H]
(Nubian) were also healthy consumers of red meat, or does one require some
Caucasian Egyptologist, scholar, scientist, paleontologist, historian,
astrophysicist what or whomever to confirm this to you.
So you say we evolved from eating grass, to eating grass and meat. Please
make up YOUR mind instead of having it made up for you! Clearly our
ancestors were meat eaters. Therefore my reasoning in this regard is, if it
was good for my ancestors, it certainly is good for me. This considering
that they lived a pretty good quality of life by ingesting MEAT protein and
other essential nutrients.
Next, you silly cuckoo (KOEKoo), plant protein can never replace meat
protein, as I clearly stated that red meat contains COMPLETE protein. Plant
protein does NOT contain sufficient elements of protein to adequately
deliver exactly the amounts and ratio of amino acids the BRAIN requires to
function optimally. Plant protein does not contain vital element of B
vitamins, IRON (and don't even quote the Popeye bullshit of spinach, as
this was a famous/infamous calculation error) and most importantly, amino
acids like L-Trytophan, (without which you can never have quality REM sleep
in which anabolism takes place, L-Carnitine for weight balance etc. I will
not ask you what books, authors etc. you base your statement (not even an
argument) that about a tenth of the meat we ingest is metabolised. I refer
to point one again. I have never advocated feeding your face with twelve
100% beef burgers per hour, silly boy. The SOOOO many "modern" disorders
you claim as a direct result of eating meat namely CANCER?... Which tree
did you drop out of? The problem with Colon and other Alimentary cancers is
not only meat related. The problem with our meat today and veggies (that
the good Doctor suggest we should have more of) is that it is not only
irradiated (I am sure you know what that means?); but contains residual
steroids, oversupply of animal adrenalin; Estrogen, insecticides (yummy),
petroleum by-products and all sorts of gooey bits to good to mention now.
In the 2nd last sentence of my piece, which obviously you did not read,
clearly states..."So the scientists go to work to ensure EVEN RED MEAT is
infected with negative elements. That is the fight, which I will deal with
next time!!!"
Now lest deal with your argument/statement about slavery, Jews etc.
Yawn...missing the point are we?
Firstly, slaves were docile period. OURstory is 110 Million slaves were
taken to the America's. This should answer your question without debate.
Let me repeat,..ONE HUNDRED & TEN MILLION Africans! (sigh, again) link the
dots, add the numbers, grow up already. No, they were not all Kintes or
Natt Turners. If they were, the USA would be the UAS (United African
States) today. They were docile, chilled out like 40 million black people
are in this country today.
Lastly, finally, because I am getting bored counter arguing your listless,
baseless I-Got-It-From-Whiteboy-Gay/Feminist Lobby-Nonsense, with this,....
My point has been that the global, white supremacist conspiracy has already
gotten to you and most in a number of ways. Then understand this, that there
are two things a man requires to exist on the most primal levels.
1. The ability to reproduce
2. The ability to protect his family/community/himself from
physical/environmental threats.
To achieve all the above on a primal level also requires a decent supply of
Testosterone.... Think about a carrot, lettuce, cauliflower and of course
putupap delivering you any of this. To intellectually effect the above, the
male's brain has to receive a critical supply of amino-acids and supportive
elements that only animal protein can deliver whether that supply is in a
state of rigor mortis, road killed, corpse (Latin for body by the way),
butchered, smelly or not.
Futhermore, to be a Warrior/Defender/Procreator of this, EAT your VEGGIES
ONLY!!!!!!!!!!.....don't make me laugh!
Finally, finally... I don't even want to enter the debate about the
Afrikaner's capacity to think. However, one wonders who Christo Wiese,
Anton Rupert, Max Du Preez, Van Syl Slabbert are, and if they are
Afrikaners (if you know any of them).
My dear friend,...methinks you are a just a little whiteboy in disguise.

FEEDBACK
In Cape Town (SA), former Mobshop editor Arthur Van Wyk has launched a
newsletter on hip hop, kwaito and South African urban culture. It's
a weekly affair, and our first readings are positive even though he
sometimes falls in the same trap as many editors of this kind of e-mail
newsletters do: every second line starts with 'I'. In other words, they
may read more like a diary than a newsletter. But with 'Urbantainment' as
the newsletter is called, this problem is not too severe.

ED. I JUST LOVE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. I JUST WONDER WHAT I SHOULD WRITE
IF I AM ACTUALLY THE PERSON DOING ALL THE RESEARCH AND COMPILING OF THE
INFORMATION HEREIN.. MAYBE I SHOULD ADOPT A PSEUDONYM - THAT WAY I WON'T
HAVE TO WRITE "I" EVERYTIME..
---------------------------------------------------
in response to the article about puff daddy doing PE 2000, i would like to
add that this is a grave injustice done 2 a pioneer [specs 2 rakim & erik
b,run
dmc cool j(from way back when he use 2b bad in cali n many more)] not only
of hip hop but also of social and historical enlightenment.
a genius in expressing, explicitly i might add, opinion and telling it the
way it is rather than using suggestive comments.
this is the man that introduced me, and i believe many more, to the
day-2-day life as they experienced it. he also introduced us the Honorable
Elija Mohammed, minister Farrakhan, nation of Islam, FOI (recall rozanno X)
2 name but a few things that this man spoke about.
old skoolers (as myself ) revered this man for his lyrical content and
unique style , tenacity , courage and his apathy he extended 2 those b-hind
bars. this man (not selecting him individually without giving flav. s1w with
griff
and of course terminator x their "props"(is this word still part of hip hop
jargon?) "baseheads" went nuts 4 PE back in the day and some of us even
emulated him 2 such an extent, that we wanted to deliver the lyrical content
that chuck did, but all in vain cause this man was on a plateau of his own.
although he obviously agreed 2 the sampling terms of his track 'Public Enemy
#1', i still maintain that it should have never been discussed
(maybe money played a significant persuasive role here).
all old skoolers must know the perils that hip hop sustained back in the
day, inflicted on the hip hop culture by merely everybody and especially the
media gave us a lot of flack and refused 2 air the songs on radio n videos.
now it appears that the onus has shifted 2 within the culture itself - even
the culture has expanded and now incorporates the likes of puffy and jamaine
and u name it, whereas back in the day they were considered an insult 2 the
hip hop community.
were r the days went u spoke about hip hop it meant hardcore beats n
lyrics - u know something u can feel n identify with.
even now the powers that b still limit the airplay on certain radio stations
n they would not for example play the original track by pe so that today's
hip hoppers can know where this came from n what it meant 2 those who come
from the
'school of hard knocks'.
bottom line is that i don't agree with what puffy did...

Read your "mag", like its energy and spontaneity, good youre doing something
where some people just talk. BUT! its too wordy and self indulgent, and
you get disrespectful, and I heard about you publishing private letters and
adding stuff too it which is out of order amd its not a good thing if the
disrespect is unfounded or misplaced. Even though as a "black" person, an
African of Indian descent, whose pissed off with the white establishment
and been kept out of places I have a right to be in, and though I do a lot
of stuff which is focussed on change and transformation, and get in a lot of
peoples faces - I believe that to have a peaceful, dynamic, diverse free
society where all people are equal - we need to work towards being the
living embodiment of what we want in others.
