review
the real deal for this week can be none other than THE TKZEE FAMILY.
GUZ 2001 starts out with a violin… and has you stunned for a mo’
fella kae is the title of the opening track, and it features geuzin.
the loyiso breaks loose with the “guzzified” version of mj’s “off the
wall”. spanish is also in the mix as the guz family gooi “fiasco”…
my personal favourite though(and that of the ticketweb webmaster) is
“izinja zam” – a cut that melts together the sound of africa with that
of well… africa(hiphop is african)…
moses molelekwa rips it on “it’s my party” – a dancefloor classic for
this summer, along with “mr and mrs fake”…
loyiso then once again flexes his vocabulistix, proving that he can
outsing zwai, on “girl without a name”
the last two tracks on the album is “STRICTLYFORMYDEEJAYS”…
LIKE I SAID, THIS IS THE “REAL DEAL”… SO DON’T SLEEP ON THIS PROJECT
**********************************************************************
WIN! WIN! WIN!
win a tkzee hamper(t-shirt, spotty, poster etc..)
give me the title of the track not mentioned in the review.

*INTRO – OPEN LETTER TO PLAYA HATERS WORLD WIDE
———————————————–
This an open letter to all those people out there who are PH’n
on Urbantainment and Geto Fabulous. At this very moment we are the
only email based infotainment and gig-guide in Southern Africa.
There is only one. Meaning not anybody else is doing it.
We would like to, and welcome constructive criticism.
Now we are being bombarded with folks who
say that we are sexist. We do acknowledge
the fact that some of our content are sexist.
Here follows a quote from one of our those people,
“There’s a lot of cool shit here and Urbantainment is a damn fine idea.
But your attitude to women is fucked up. And if you think that a
loathing for sexism is white and/or bourgeois crap then you clearly
haven’t read very much…”
Ja so there you have it. Stop hating. Start congratulating! Koketso from
Bush Radio in Cape Town told me,” Who wants to read about Natalie Becker
and Zuraida Jardine!” These women are of colour and they did not even make
the cover of FHM. Now there are loads of other sexy women of colour that
should have been on that cover. Wake up and sniff the coke! These are
“our” women and we should support them in there careers.
Yours in media

Half naked in the rain jackin’ your girls

Playa Motswako in the GS, three ooh ooh
Playin number two Tekken, zero to sixty
in six point seven seconds hangin out the window
actin up, chickenheads like “You doin fo’ months!”
Flexin the Rolex oyster perpetual, thirty-five diamonds
across the face, still eatin out foam cups and paper plates
We don’t call it playa hatin in the nine-nine, it’s P.I.
That’s pass interference, automatic first down
Want Juice like Tupac, then Obey Your Thirst clown
Be in the geto of Gugs, rockin Loxion Kulcha
Mix Bacardi with Sprite, OK, we say
“Cape Town playaz got crazy game
like OOP DADDY da pimp got h*** and clothes”
The homies down for whatever, we stack the chedda
Swiss bank accounts, and mo’ mozzarella fella
Back up in your PC via Japanese & American technology and I can already
forsee the death of deep house as we come to know it. Believe me. My
argument on that is that many mofo’s is jumpin’ on it and killin’ it.
Good thing it is not hip-hop! I mean black folk got a more deeper side
of house while white folk is on a trip of like,
” anything goes ” But like I always
say “anything goes when it comes to h***”. Yeah so there is a lot of
drama going on in the life of OOP DADDA. My women is bugging me with
their problems and it’s hectic ya know. You know when people complain
about me being sexist then I know that I’m doing something right. Or
maybe I’m wrong, completely wrong to do this sort of writing. Maybe
most of you people don’t want none of this type of writing up in your
Pee-Cee. Hit me up and I will consider all
suggestions as we at Geto Fabulous like to please ya! What do ya think
mail me your thoughts on this matter and then we can see how we can do
this. I would like to apologize to the Cool Funk family. This has to do
with my reporting of a story that was on Angel, a member of Cool Funk.
There has been a lot of stories regarding the bouncers of Sirens. And it
this ain’t the first time someone got assaulted by them bouncer-ass
white boys. Angel we on your side. And it was not even your fault!
Sorry! By the way everybody is on some weird shit nowadays.
It’s probably all the coke and horse peeps are
sniffin’. The Cape Town version of the Universal party was the bomdigi.
It was also the first time I got bymekaar with a chick of caucasian
persuasion. So ja my week was excellente. Mmm ja this goose had some
duidelike lips. Mmm sappig sappig. Matter of fact I’m actually big time
into this girl. Shit, man it’s hectic.

STOP THE SEXISM!
Interesting zine, total pity about the sexist copy which means one has
no inclinitation to read any further issues. A tip, guys – substitute
all that sexist shit about chicks etc with the words black, nigger,
etc, and see how “funny” or “cute” or “harmless” you think it reads
then. Sexism is as unnattractive as racism – until you realise that,
you continue to be stunted.
Okay cheers – until you grow up!

————————————–
…I was out at Ratanga Junction last Friday night, and guess who I
bumped into? None other than fem-DJ Stacey. Yes she was outthere
doing her thing and we also had a quick chat about this and that…
Last week I told you all about LiL Wayne’s new album, well it has been
released, it debut really high on the Billboard charts. So go check
it out…Hotboys just went platinum…Master P’s totally new album also
charted high on those charts…Tkzee’s new album is chock full of
groovey house tunes, thanks to Zwai Bala’s production…But shit man
my ass is waiting for that Chiskop album…The new Arthur album has been
released this week in JHB, it’s called UMPOSTOLI!…What’s up at Nebula
bos? …Another song that’s gonna kick up dust
and cause some controversy is
the new one from Onyx’s Sticky Fingaz entitled JACKIN’ FOR BEATS.
This track is in the same vein as 50 Cent’s US summer time hit HOW TO ROB.
Here Sticky boldly talks about how he’s gonna snatch beats and
rhyme styles from such notables like Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Nas, Juvenile,
Eve and even his own group Onyx….The song that has got everyone
talking in the US is the
brand new joint off the upcoming BORN AGAIN lp by The Notorious
BIG. Entitled NOTORIOUS the song features Mr Puff Daddy and Lil Kim
and borrows from the classic ‘modern rock’ song Notorious by Duran
Duran…the new Bob
Marley album which features everyone from Chuck D to Erykah Badu to
MC Lyte to Busta Rhymes. All of these artists have been incorporated
into songs originally done by Marley. Through the miracle of modern
technology everyone now raps and sings alongside him.. If there was
any reason to pick up this album, it’s just to hear how Hip Hop
legend Rakim skillfully flows on the song CONCRETE JUNGLE with
Marley. That alone was worth picking up the album..
The other hidden jewel from the underground is the new cut ‘Goldmine’
from former Pharcyde member Fatlip. If he continues on this
pace..expect to hear a killer album when it drops.. I wonder when
Pharcyde themselves is gonna drop a new joint. they should’ve taken
advantage of being on THE REAL WORLD and had some material to
promote. Oh well, ‘c’est la vie…Now to end of this week’s edition of
tit-bits, does anybody out there know what DJ Walker’s new hit with
Senyaka is all about? I know what the song is about and a lot of young
women have told me that they are offended by the song. Okay I’m not
gonna go into al the drama about it but I want you anti-sexist mofo’s
to target them folks too not just mee…….PIECE

*RETURN OF THE DOCTOR
————————————-
This week saw the release of Dr. Dre’s long awaited sophomore project.
Check out this line from “The Message,” the final track on Dr. Dre
2001: “I’m realizin’ I ain’t no gangsta — it’s just not me.” Coming
from Dr. Dre, that’s a startling admission. After all, the man rolls
out his undeniable gangsta credentials on “Forgot About Dre,” rapping
in a super-quick Midwestern style, putting to rest any baloney that
“Dre can’t rap.” “Who you think taught you to smoke trees?” he asks.
“Who you think brought you the Eazy E’s / Ice Cubes and D.O.C.s / The
Snoop dee-oh-double-gees / The group that said ‘Fuck tha police?”
So if the maestro behind gangsta rap isn’t a gangsta anymore, what is
he?
A careful listening to his sixty-eight-minute opus, Dr. Dre 2001,
due out Tuesday, suggests that if Dre’s not a gangsta, he’s at
least a schizophrenic — with an unbelievable amount of talent.
His declaration of non-gangsta-hood comes after an hour of lyrical
pimping and ho’ing (“Ho’s got to eat a dick and shut the fuck up,”
emcee Hittman helpfully explains on “XXplosive,” for those wondering
what a ho’s got to do). Suffice to say, it’s a bit confusing.
But then, Dr. Dre has never been about making coherent lyrical
statements; he’s been about making irresistible songs out of
precise funk, stylish rapping and his ultra-polished, IMAX-size
production skills. And if lyrics about boo-yahs and beeyotches
were selling records, well, that was okay too. But after the
murders of Tupac and Biggie, hip-hop is in flux, gangsta-wise,
and Dre is seeking to define his place in the new world order.
So half the time, Dre comes at us as the wise elder of hip-hop,
whose seen the highest highs and lowest lows, and not only has
lived to tell tales, but has discovered what really matters in
life: music and family. The other half the time, he presides over a
gangsta paradise with plenty of chest-thumping and mic-rocking by
himself and many guest MCs.
Of course, all the MCing is delivered over astonishingly smooth beats.
Dre has listened to the RZA’s tinkly pianos and Timbaland’s jagged
hi-hats, he’s internalized the production styles of East Coast and
Dirty South, and has created his own version of them. He’s certainly
not reprising The Chronic’s P-Funk-style bounce. Over the course of
the disc, Dre slowly unfurls his tight sound: skipping harpsichord
on “Still D.R.E.,” tuba bass and sweeping strings on “What’s the
Difference?” For “The Message,” he concocts an early Seventies-era
Marvin Gaye-style ballad with a tumbling piano line for Mary J. Blige
to emote over.
As for the lyrics, Dre is impressive in his wise elder mode, sounding
moderate and resigned, his bitterness just under the surface. On “The
Watcher,” he taunts haters who complain that he’s lost street cred,
asking, “Nigga, I started this gangsta shit / That’s the motherfucking
thanks I get?” before warning “You fuckin’ with a family man / I got a
more to lose than you.”
On “Big Ego’s,” he asks, “What can I say, Cal-i-forn-i-yay? / When
niggers die every day over some shit they say?” This kind of
tragedy-of-street-life lament has been done before, but what
makes it remarkable is that Dre isn’t just showing his sensitive
side, but making a statement about how he wants to live. On
“Forgot About Dre,” he proclaims, “This is gonna be the millennium
of Aftermath / So give me one more platinum plaque / And fuck rap!
You can have it back.”
Of course, he also says, “Fine bitches equal sex to me,
(“Let’s Get High”), and builds songs around lines like, “A bitch is a
bitch but a dog is a man’s best friend” (“Housewife”). Snoop Dogg is
in the house, bouncing ably on “Fuck You,” as he explains his game:
“Take that bitch home / And give her a bone / And give her the number
to my cellular phone.” On “What’s the Difference,” Xzibit disses
“Hollywood niggas,” saying, “I stay committed while you motherfuckers
babysitted,” before Dre and Eminem avow their friendship and mutual
caring by mulling over an attack on Em’s ex.
Eminem is strong throughout, especially his lyrical blitzkrieg on
“Forgot About Dre,” so fast that it’s hard to know where the rhymes
begin and end: “Nowdays everybody wanna talk like they got something
to say but nothin’ comes out when they move they lips just a bunch of
gibberish and motherfuckers act like they forgot about Dre!” Hittman
is also impressive on the mic. On “Bitch Niggaz,” he raps, “Mister
powder puff, your bark ain’t loud enough / I know chihuahuas that’s
more rah rah.”
As hip-hop makes some tentative steps toward equality between the
sexes, Dre invites some women along to express themselves. There
are two schools here, one represented by Ms. Roq, committed to
pounding as tough as any man when she queries, “Who’d ‘a thought
a sexy bitch could be murderous sniper?” on “Murder Ink.”
More uplifting is Mary J. Blige on “The Message.” Over what is
probably Dre’s most churchy track ever, she sings, “I’m tryin’
to tell you something good / Don’t get caught up in the hood.”
It’s as if Dre needed to hear all of the arguments for and against
the gangsta life before making his decision, and now, at the peak
of his powers, he stands at a crossroads.
********HERE FOLLOWS DAVEY D’s ( FROM SAN FRANCISCO) VIEWS ON THE NEW
DRE ALBUM***********
…I’m loving the new Dr Dre.. After a 4-5 year
hiatus.I think he came back..and came back strong. Tracks like
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE w/ Eminem and Xzibit, THE NEXT EPISODE with
Dre and Snoop, BIG EGOS w/ Hittman and SOME LA NIGGAS which
features King T, Kokane, Defari, Xzibit, Knoc-Turnal and old NWA
member MC Ren. From start to finish, the lp hits..It will never be on
the classic level as The Chronic.. but this is a nice follow up.. I
do have to wonder about Dre’s back and forth stance on things.. If
you recall, when he first started his Aftermath Label he released as
his first single BEEN THERE DONE THAT, where he basically let it be
known all that gangsta stuff for him was finished. After listening to
his album, it’s obvious that Dre ‘s not ready to abandon his old
ways. In fact he even admits to inventing the phrase ‘gangsta rap’.
Dre’s switch around reminds me of the time he boldly stated on a song
EXPRESS YOURSELF about how he would never smoke weed because it
causes brain damage. Of course he later went on to drop the song ‘The
Chronic’ and the rest is history. I wonder what made Dre decide he
didn’t wanna be a space where he ‘Had Been There Done That’ ?

eishhh joe !!!
Back in the early days of steam ships, a ship of rich white
people sailed at sea.
All of a sudden something happened to the ship and it was about to
sink. Terrified, the people aboard didn’t know what to do.
Someone suggested they do what Jonah and the crew did in the bible…
pray.
But unfortunately no one knew what to say. So they called upon Titanus,
a black chef on the ship and asked him to pray.
Titanus agreed and came up on deck to pray. He started like this:
“Lord on a day of hunger I went to a restaurant to get something to
eat and the sign said:
FOR WHITE FOLKS ONLY.
I went to a water fountain to get water and the sign said:
FOR WHITE FOLKS ONLY.
Then Lord, I went to the toilet hard-pressed by nature call,
and the sign said:
FOR WHITE FOLKS ONLY.
So Lord Almighty when this mother fucker sinks, let it be
FOR WHITE FOLKS ONLY…
AMEN”
