Dance 2 Yo Rhythm Talent Search – Emcees, Dancers, Graffiti & Poets – South Africa
Tags: South Africa
There has been a call for all spontaneous dancers in Gauteng schools, to partake in a life time opportunity to showcase their talent on huge platform. The Dance 2 Yo Rhythm, Hip Hop talent competition forms part of the Gauteng Carnival 2013. This project is powered by the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation with the intended effect of powering the youth through fun mediums like dance and to also highlight safety in these communities by combating teenage pregnancy, underage drinking and drugs in the community. The carnival has over 15 000 people in attendance, thus creating the biggest platform in the country for an upstart dancer, graffiti artist, poet or emcee.
For the past 10 weeks, dancers, emcees, graffiti artists and poets were set to battle it out at school battles in Carletonville, Johannesburg CBD, Bramley, Pretoria, and Eldorado Park in the hopes of securing one of fifteen spots in the final round.
Youngsters with little resources, and living under difficult circumstances have auditioned with their enthusiasm for the Hip Hop culture. The preliminary rounds were judged by Vouks, a well respected industry player. He witnessed Gauteng youth performing and given considered and useful feedback.
The chosen finalists will perform on stage at the Gauteng Carnival – dance finals on 7th September | Yeoville Recreation Centre, 36 Cnr Raleigh and Fortesque streets, Yeoville Johannesburg. Winners will walk away with a R5000 hamper and a trophy for their school.
