damn, I missed the opening game yesterday, stuck in traffic. yep, as bleak as things are for the continent this time around, one hopes that it would still be possible for one of us, maybe the Ivory Coast to make it through to the second round. the atmosphere is great but its at a realy shitty time for me because of work. games I definitely have to see are brazil, england, ukraine and argentina. Oh, and definitely the english hooligans versus the german knuckleheads(sorry for the stereotypes ha ha) fight I gotta to see that one! from a safe distance of course...

great game. end to end stuff,,, not what you'd expect from a game with an italian team in it.
ghana's keeper is dodgy in the air,,, total liability. their midfield is on fire (and essien is throwin' 'bows all over the place), but the finishing is poor - too many missed chances.
on the bright side, the italians look vunerable, so ghana should be able to get back into it.

Damn..what a game! It did not disapoint me one bit! Well...except for that blunder by Kuffour...but he had some what of a great game nuntheless! First half...the best half of the game for me! Ghana dint sit back and let Italy bring the game to 'em...and Italy dint sit back either-we all know Italy can play a defencive game if they wanna...and chances of you scoring are almost nill if they do! The Ghananian defence...even though it was breached a few times...it took could only take a cracker of a goal for Italy to register a goal! Pappoe...still say he should've put away that chance...and at the end it cost them a game!!
Second half...Italy vs Kinson(sorry if i mispelled his name!). Its like Ghana went all or nothing in that half...which ment Kingson had to play both keeper and sweeper...always gon big problems against a team like Italy. But they're second goal...a gift more than anything.
On the day...2-0 to Italy...but i'm still 100% behind Ghana! If anything...i'm more adamant that they gon go through to the second round! It's all mathematical now...USA...no doubt Ghana beatn em...C.Republic...gon be a tough one...looking forward to that game!

The Ghanaian Football a**ociation has apologised after defender John Pantsil waved an Israeli flag to celebrate the World Cup win over the Czech Republic.
Spokesman Randy Abbey said the Ghanaian FA was not taking sides in the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
Pantsil plays in Israel for Hapoel Tel Aviv wanted to thank Israeli fans who travelled to support him, Abbey said
"He's unaware of international politics. We apologise to anybody who was offended," said Abbey.
"We promise that it will never happen again.
"He did not act out of malice for the Arab people or in support of Israel. He was naive... we don't need to punish him."
Pantsil celebrated the two Ghana goals on Saturday by taking out a small Israeli flag from his sock and waving it above his head.
Abbey said neither the Ghanaian FA nor Ghana as a country had a strong political position on the subject and said they were just in Germany for the World Cup.
"We are not in support or against Israel or the Arab nations. We are here to do football, we are not here to do politics."
A spokesman for Fifa had said they had no problem with the gesture.
Israel's Sports Minister Ofir Pines-Paz had been quoted as praising Paintsil for his actions and saying Ghana had gained many Israeli fans.
"We have an Israeli at the World Cup. Paintsil's gesture has warmed our hearts and many Israelis have now become supporters of Ghana," Paz said.

Is it just me or have all the african teams been the victim of suspect calls from refs... now I know this statement raises many an eyebrow cos I wont deny my partisan stance on african teams but theres this recurrence of similar calls in similar situations, always counting against the african side.
Not to mention a barrage of patronising statements from commentators.

On the whole I think the reffing has just been sketch. On the patronising thing I think Ghana's game was a cla**ic example. They were made to look all lucky and "cheeky" and stuff. They almost made it as if the Czechs lost the game themselves to the "pa**ionate African guys'. damn. We were laughing about that yesterday.
That's why it would be so good to see something happen for Ghana or another African country. Anyway, we wait in hope. Supersport desk hilarious man they introduce the comentary team like they're about to step onto the pitch.

The english commentary is the worst i have ever heard for a world cup. Almost makes me miss the American commentary (ok, well, not really).

come on, that was a definite penalty! Even the portuguese commentator on Supersport said it was,,, so did Scolari. Carvalho caught Henry's foot,,, he's possibly the world's most dangerous striker and he was clear through on goal, why is he gonna dive? It's easier to score from open play than have the pressure of a penalty.
Portugal are a talented team but Pauletta, Ronaldo and Postiga all clearly dived to try to con the ref. That's not the beautiful game. They just make themselves look like idiots by complaining that the ref was against them. Watch the replay.

sucks man. I would prefer any other team to win except Italia. Admittedly I only started supporting France when Viera turned the heat up against Togo but on Sunday I was expecting them to take it.
bad move by Zizou. winning it would have been an incredible end to his world cup career. but hey, shit happens.

Funny how the winner of the golden ball has always been from thr team losing in the final game for the last three finals, Ronaldo in 98 and Kahn in 2002 and now zizou. have to say the italians showed guts and played hectic soccer. Pirlo is just too sick in midfield, that cat was everywhere.He is true cla** and Cannavaro was just to dope.
