With all due respect.
I dont know any of Bahamadia's songs.Cant even hum along to one.
I'm going so I can take some pics of an international hip hop act in capetown , enjoy a beer with some friends & ....NETWORK.
Let's be honest.
It's not everyday such a diverse crowd of HipHop heads RSVP on facebook that they will be there.Props to Kenny for bringing us together.May he make good money.
So , why do we fork out R70 to support an international act, but wont coughup the R20, R30 to support each others parties.
Are we crabs in a bucket?
See , its like a stokvel , or a savings club. You put your money into a group & benefit. You benefit to an extent which you would not have seen on your own.
Any guesses?

I think their needs to be better marketing and communication about gigs, line ups and venues.
I'll gladly support if all details have been communicated to me.
If you create a facebook event and attach a map to Park wood park jams, I'll be there.
If I see a poster/flyer in advance and the line up appeals to me I'll be there.
Sometimes it's not awlays that peeps don't wanna support, we don't entice them enuf, give them an incentive to come and spend 5 hours of their life at ur gig.
They prolly think it will the same old will start late, performers will be drunk and sound will be phucked gig.

@ naturelle -
if your'e using the parkwood gig as a "case in point" i hear you loud n clear - the fliers & posters were printed but were never put up.
but i mean in general.

what do you think is a good way to entice a greater audience?
besides what you've mentioned.because what you've mentioned are prerequisites - not plus factors

conceptualizing every aspects of your art is not much to ask for, keep ish fresh, and not just a pre-packaged stale plate of the norm. say ur track has a concept, ur album has a concept, ur album cover art has a concept, ur gig posters bare a concept, should the whole gig experience that you pose on stage stem from a solid concept aswell? then people will be more than willing to dig deep into their wallets, and stretch their limbs to get to your gigs and know that they'll leave with their senses all fed. what be the point in forcing a relatively pretty penny out ur pocket for ish you done heard and seen b4. don't sell ur audience too short. nowadays being stimulated(mentally that is) is becoming 'too much to ask for' i suppose...

This is of course just my personal preferances.
First and foremost:
A diverse and entertaining line up
*Professional MCs who put on a performance and have rehearsed their sets so they come off proper.
*The line up should not be too long, I would say max 6 different acts.
FREEBIES:
Clothing Vochers
Music store vouchers
Special at the bar if in a club
VENUE
Put an effort into decor and theme of venue
THE SHOW
start on time
No intervals
Good sound
Hot entertaining hosts
Dancers for transition to next act instead of silence and mic checking
A hot DJ to finish off the night.
I'll think of more stuff just now

Well... since I never really have to pay to get into Party people.. I can just say.. I feel your pain... but this is how Kenny makes his dough... so in the words of Irvin Khoza... 'stop thinkin like a kaF*er'... and support hip-hop...just wanted to say that... Actually I been a Bahamadia fan since day 1.. but I would be there more to see Fifi than anything else... since I'll be at a funeral in Kimberley tho... Enjoy yourself (c) Rick James...

True. If you know party people you know that it's always got some or other hot local talent on stage.
-
Thats exactly what I mean. Actually back in the day we used to have these 'would you hit it' verbals where we'd compare fugly chicks and decide which is a lesser evil to smash. Im ashamed to say Bahamadia used to crop up frequently... like... OK.. between lets say... hmmm Bahamadia and .... hmmm Queen Latifah...'who would you hit'... lol.. ? no disrespek
I think Fifi is officially my favourite artist in the country... So I was more amped about that really...
-
Maybe you missed these parts....
or were you referring to something else.
correct me if you were referring to something else:
