Title: Slept on Cla**ics
Post by: TATEguru v.2K9 on April 01, 2008, 07:17:45 PM
Whenever a top 25 all time hip hop albums" list is compiled there are the usual universally accepted cla**ics. Albums like abo Me Against the World, Ready to Die, Illmatic, Paid in Full etc.

This is the "obscure personal cla**ic albums" thread.
Share with us some of your personal fave albums (say on your personal top 50) that are less often discussed as cla**ics.

Me First.

InI - Center of Attention
(http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q178/rapx2010/InI-Center_Of_Attention.jpg)

Pete Rock on the boards did his thing & I like the universal higher spirituality themes.
Highlights: Fakin Jacks; Grown Man Sport; No More Words..

Dope Pick. One of the illest albums of all time.Cube killed it for me on Hand of the dead body. Don't think it's slept on though.I thought it was generally regarded as a cla**ic ?

Anyway, here's mine:

METHOD MAN - TICAL
(http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000024JA.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)

One of the darkest albums ever made. Never mentioned when talking WU-SOLOS.

Ras Ka**--- Soul on ice

A west coast artist on a conscious tip, the best to eva do it. Nature of the threat is the track.  Used to bump dis out loud whenever I saw 2-timing Scripture union members in college, just to piss 'em off. And wud get high as a mothercuf, drive into town, and when whitie pa**es by, roll down the windows and bump that shit loud.

Ya Owam, I know you dude, you've always been more of a 'Release'-type cat, from what I remember - all nine minutes of it, possibly the only time ever you have dug a track Zach De La Rocha was on (outside of 'CIA')...

I've always preferred Blazing Arrow over Nia. To me that's a much more slept on/cla**ic album.

Ekks is right about Soul On Ice - DOPE album. They're selling copies for about $60 on ebay these days.

Nice picks ya'll. NIA and Soul on Ice are definite favourites.

Keeping it on that West Coast tip, here's two more albums that are mad underrated.

I remember Biggie saying in an interview how much he was bumping this when it came out. Dope Dope Shit.

Kurupt the Kingpin @ his best. Daz's production was top notch.

Before he was pimped by the majors, this dude was mad vicious In the words of Kurupt "The only X i know's my Nigga Xzibit and RBX".

Yeah I don't know if it is generally mentioned in Top 25's but definately deserves to be there.
I was just listening to "Hand of the Dead Body" last night & that Cube verse personifies 90's Gangsta Rap to the fullest. If there was ever a definitive Gansta Rap verse this is it:

Quote from: Ice Cube
You best to free your mine
Before I free my nine
And stop f***in with the void in pop
Or feel my hot rocks
Bang, bang, boom boom, ping ping I'm the black
White boys gat a magazine and don't kow how to act
I'll attack and make you vomit
Down with Kahlid Abdul Muhammad
Do he got a brother, I'm it now
I'm the illest
Wanna kill this house nigga Don Cornelius
Can you feel this?
You punk niggas make me sick
Suckin on the devil's dick
Scared of revolution
Need to start deuchin
Houston is the place
I caught a case
Them motherf***ers tried to put a scar on my face
But i bust two times to the gut
To the Reverend Calvin Butts
Gotta pair of nuts?
I started this gangsta shit in 86
Now you dissin me
For publicity
Isn't he a hoe to the third degree
Who me
I'm a g who like to scrap-a-lot
Down with Rap-A-Lot
And I can't stop, won't stop
So f*** Bill and Hillary
Ice Cube their ain't no killin me

Is THIS^ the same guy that made "Are we there yet"??? ??? ;D
I Guess "Gangstas don't live that long..." 8)

where do I start with this one? I feel this joint was on par with DOGGYSTYLE and that means alot. That Dollarz & Sense track where he dissin Mc Eiht oooh weee! :o He gets all up in dude's grill on this song. The line "E-I-H-T? Now should I continue? / You left out the G cus the G aint in You!" KILLED it! Every song is the shit; from Diggin U Out to Something 4 Tha Mood, to Summer Breeze, Ho in you etc etc. There are zero weak songs. I hardly seen this one make anyones top 25 :(

some real fire in this thread:

goodie mobb - soul food
outkast - atliens
mo thugs - the first mothug album , not all the other bullshit.

- agree with the busta, ra** ka** &...skeelo was playing in my head whole day yesterday  ;D

what about shahiem's (shyhiem's) first album as well.

LOL !!! Yeah. Smart Gangstas know when to get out the game and start making kiddies movies.hehehe !! Now only if Frank Lucas, Supreme, AZ, Rich Porter, Alpo and all of them were as smart as my boy,it would be a different world i tell you.

I guess dude be trying to give back for all the anger he unleashed on the world during his early years. hahaha !!!! In the history of hip-hop i don't think there's an artist who's ever dissed as many people as Cube. Koreans, Niggaz, Crackers,Bitches, The Church, the government, his own mama, his old crew,Common, Cypress Hill, etc, etc.

@ Triplelife
That's probably my favourite Quik album as well. Flawless.

Big ups to cats for all the California-love. West Coast hip-hop is mad ignored when it comes to threads like this.

Here's another one. Out of all his albums - minus War & Peace which was wack, this is the only one which never gets enough props, personal cla**ic to me.

Slept-on cla**ics sounds like an oxymoron, but anyway, my personal favourite rap albums that aren't universally recognised as cla**ics would be:

Masta Ace - Slaughtahouse
Gravediggaz - Six Feet Deep

Interestingly these  two albums have something in common, they're both parodies. Slaughtahouse critiques gangsta rap with its overblown depictions of violence, while Six Feet tackles the short-lived horror-core craze.

Prince Paul, who produced most of Six Feet, tried to give jiggy rap a similar treatment on Politics of the Business, but with inferior results.

Supa!

Vol.3 Jigga fa sho, for Busta it has to be ' When disaster strikes' still can't get over ' We can take it outside!'

Quote
We the official g-u-rilla to lead militias
Stack peelin, americana
Spit sentences like one of missy wanna's
Reminisce the promise
Bring drama like Nicaragua
Fatigues march, army leaders, they count crooked drug dollars
And sip fresh squeezed milk from the titties of llamas
Leave cities in carnage
Prettiest farmers that pour whisky at harvest and hold 16 guananas
Maintain, maintain, maintain
I reign like mussolinis iron fist
Try on this, you can't see me like vagina lips
Smugglin diamond chips, bubblin anonymous
The dominant will resource and count script crews and world wars
(world wars echo's)
Yo, you better practice what you preach, I got 7 MC's
And 10 g's, I'll show each
Never interfere and shit, souvenirs for your ears and shit
Clear poetry like William Shakespeare and shit
Word is bond checkin me out
Hey what you talkin about
You lost and walkin about
Niggas got beef they want to say and start talkin it out
Hey, oh my god, y'all nigga be buggin me out
Wish they could lay me down and have the police start chalkin me out
Now I zoom in on you and my niggas start stalkin you out
Chuck down that bullshit that you be callin about
This one's for my people and my niggas up North
The ruler shit dynasty but Flipmode finally come fourth
Exports and imports hittin you with flavors of all sorts
My squad comin through, chop off your ear

Quote
The shit you talkin crazy like niggas turnin in their hand guns
I be burnin mc's like betty grandson

Saafir_ Box Car Sessions Original as hell, One of my favourite albums ever, Top to Bottom

Smoothe tha Hustler_ Once upon a time in America he could rock any of the major cats of that era solid.

Digital Undergorund_ Sons of the P Dope a** west coast production that could easily surpa** some NWA joints. Shock G/Humpty Hump
had some entertaining shit going on. Showed a lighter side of Tupac aswell, dancing and shit.

3rd Ba**_ Derelicts of Dialect Priminister Pete was way ahead of his time with the lyrics and they although they were recognized
they never seemed to get the full respect they deserve, they never get a mention when it comes to white
boy rappers. Funny, they gave birth to the style that the then Zev Love X (DOOM) borrowed?? Prince Paul
                                                  killed the boards too!

Saafir_ Box Car Sessions Original as hell, One of my favourite albums ever, Top to Bottom

agreed. the beats on that album are the rawest hip hop Ive ever heard and Im not lying, and I think Ive got just about every US 90s hip hop album ever (well maybe a few gaps, lol)

here's one for you:

flatliners - usa
