Title: Producer Challenge
Post by: The KWEDZA HOD on May 26, 2008, 08:54:46 PM
Here is a short and i mean realy short sample. i got this from some Kat who asked me to help him out wit it. At first i was shocked at how short the sample was but later on i decided to take it as a chalenge.
Bump the sample and try and flip it, i aint looking for timberland or whoever i just wanna hear what can come from this.

LOL. Trompie ima be waiting and please don't tell me the sample is too short, i already know it is. But if i can flip it so can many more.
I'll post my flip as soon as some feedback.
GOOD LUCK

wutitdoooo? im hopin this doesnt only end wit the postin of beats, we need to learn from each ova, correct the flaws and move to a higher level of forward....

another thing, how are we going to decide who freak o the sample ws the dopest???

oh, oh, nice sample once again.... ;D

to EKKS, nuf respect due ma ninja...heard ur take o the sample, liked the cuts that introduced the Flip, liked the chosen portion o it u decided to chop, nice. i didnt like howevr, the kicks you added to the fliped script, my opinion, if u strengthen the kicks on the sample itsself theyl add a particular liveness that doesnt stray too far away from your beat..thats me...waitin on feed from my offering.ONE

Sample is.. "Holy are you" by the Electric Prunes off their 1968 album Release of an Oath.  It was Produced by David Axelrod.. Madlib looped it up nicely on "Return of the Loop Digga" on Quasimoto's "The Unseen".

Here is an addition to the thread. Tell us what you used to flip the sample, from hardware to software. Just the basics.
This should help with those who wanna learn from this thread and now they can concentrate on certain flips.

I used FRUITYLOOPS 8.
Cubase 2.0
I aint got any extra hardware(not even monitors).

Reason 3
Recylce 2.0 to cut certain parts o the sample
Adobe audition to clean the sample
wavelab to master the beat
oh and a pair of headphones

Hey...hey...I meant get back to you wit what I think about these challenges...I know too many guys would have loved to hear what I would have come up wit...this could have been just another one of those loops...or better yet...

Here is a tip of what to do with such a short sample:

Reimport it in reverse
Chop it up...and there...you have a sample that no one knows where you got...

Its too many things you can do again with this...chopping it up and creating a string outta it using NI Guiter Rig FX!

But nah...I aint going out like that! :P

Then again..Imma go against my word this once.... explain what this is about!

One person said earlier Im just talk...

LESSON #1

so I just downloaded FL8 demo and cracked it...got a few samples to chop open drums (U'll here...they dont match...but if I master that eish...they'll be crisp)...then I took yo 6 sec sample and chopped the hell outta it en made it a sec long chop that can be emulated in sections....in short... loopable...added a weak ba**line with yo FL BooBa**...a rig with FL Slayer and reverb my snare....

to end it all of I added a shot of yo sample again at the end of every 8 bar....

download Dedication_to_The_Rebbi.zip (http://www.shareonall.com/Dedication_to_The_Rebbi_inqp_zip.htm)

All dedicated to you!

LUCKY I didn't have my MPC at work...yes I did the whole beat at work (aka 9-5)!

Oh..so if you dont believe, I even included an FL file...zipped!  :D

Oh Oh...I see I sparked something... ppl .... was just kidding... thats not a beat but something I played with... a walk thru on how Trompie can just do anything from nothing... and argumentatively not loop the sample bu create a loop from chops!

I aint no FL GOD and I just wanted to show that even if you dont use eish like hardware... you can still get good-best results with DAW....

I thank everyone who gave me props via PMs and whatever... and Im humbled with those that still gives more... we're here not to compete but help each other to up game!

Oh one day ima buy an MPC, and when i do you gonna know i have it. For now im still dedicated to learning.

the days of the MPC are being held hostage with DAW tech increasingly efficient & sound synthesis near perfect reproduction.
trust me dun. MOTU MACH5, NI Kontakt/Intakt, EMU VSTi Samplers, LIVE7 etc  sampling Applications are way ahead of AKAI OS.
Ish takes a bit of patience & time on hardware...
Even the Drum emulations .. NI Battery3, Robota, BFD, RMIV, etc have some nice ADSR algorithms with bit reduction & 2-pole filtering/eq , multi-timbral etc....

The only advantage is the legendary Groove, Sequencing & Line-In Recording..

chk out the http://www.akaipro.com/mpd32 (http://www.akaipro.com/mpd32) usb controller...

listened to the cut dawg, my opinion is that u work extra on the masterin,  the levels of the individual instruments not to mention the drum kit, the claps sound foreign, try equalising them. the ba** could also use with a lil strengthenin, maybe sumin deeper. i like the sample, although im thinkin u should manipulate it furthur, like takin the words out more or choppin more of the trumpet like u did. another thing, the way the beat moves from the main loop into the bridge needs improvement, i feel it shouldnt jump in and out of the bridge, u should atleast have sumin introducing the change, before and after (liked the drum change but it needs support)..MY OPINION.
