Title: Is this fair discrimination?
Post by: motho on July 17, 2008, 04:49:34 PM
Someone i know runs a pre-primary school and she advertised for a school principal. Conducted interviews today and the best candidate is obese (about 150kg). but besides that she's qualified for the job. The thing is she is gon be working with children, taking them on hikes and gardening and shit...is it fair not to hire the obese woman based on this fact only or does that make it discriminatory??

But she is responsible for her own weight. i mean they made the hike so that the children could manage. so they werent exactly tryna discriminate against anyone. the things supposed to be easy

According to our laws, I think this is fair. So long as it can be shown that whatever "condition" (obesity in this case) would affect a canditate's ability to do the job satifsfactorily. just as you would not be allowed to be a pilot if your eyesight is poor. or something along those lines.

If its any consolation, the most qualified person is not always the best candidate for the job.

I read a recent article on news24 that said that not only are crocs ugly, but they are unhygienic too.

There was thislady on e-news about 3yrs back. Her face looked like a pair of crocs. I cant explain this, but they did.

I second this, i believe everyone must be given a chance to prove themselves, dispite your situation.
I got a fatish friend who runs longer than i can..... He way more fitter than me. So what if that fat lady was the same?
