Title: Vinyl LPs, Records, or Albums
Post by: OG Beezak on December 04, 2008, 11:05:54 AM
Just got a bunch of these from an older friend of mine who use to DJ---I guess, he thinks he's grown up for this..nucca bought a new house. I mean they are a lot...from RNB, HIP HOP, KWAITO, AND JAZZ---Stuff from---Guru, EVE, X-ZIBIT, Eminem, DRE, Monifa, R Kelly, Jay Z, Marvin Gay, 112, EXCAPE, Snoop, Wyclef, Guffy of ghetto Ruff and etc. I mean I have a whole crate of Old Skool Hip Hop, RnB, and Kwaito, Jazz.....even the ol "I wanna sex u up single"  ;D ;D

 I just wanna know..............

1.How to take care for them. Cos a very few don't have covers anymore. And are scratched
2. If it worth for me to buy equipment to play them....just for a good listen...some ish I can hook up with my system...Vinly player...if there's anything as such ::)
3. Or if I don't have a pile of junk that I need to throw I away immediately  (which doesn't feel right at all) :-\ :-\
4. What affordable quality equipment is available out there

I think you should get rid of them. I know a place where they dispose of these things safely. I can come collect them at your place even.

Those old vinyls were pressed on toxic acetate. You could be poisoning yourself eveytime you touch them. Don't just throw them in the rubbish, cos they'll just pollute the area and ground water.

If you aren't in the J, mail them to me and I'll take them to a place where thay can be disposed of safely, so they don't endanger anyone else.

That's what I'm talking about Sponge. But my nucc already gave away his equipment, and gave me the music, maybe cos he thot I like it. I guess I'm gonna have to go look for a Vinly player then.

But, how do I keep these things intact. I mean, how do I avoid damaging

It doesn't sound like u got a particularly great collection but personally, i'd never throw away records, i'm a collector. like Spongebob said they can be used to sample etc...
if u really wanna get rid of them & useMlazi ne? call up Papercut, now known as PKuttah he could probably use them to mix or give'em to Blakhitla, he got turntables and he samples real dope. but if all fails, i'll have them. ;)

went to a record sale at that Newtown spot next to Ritual on Saturday, got a total of 11 viynls cla**ic viynls for a measly R500. Miles Davis, Makeba & Belafonte, Masekela, AFRIKA BAMBaATA (I'm sayin') Cosby, Ella Fitzerald....and...none of them were singles, 5 of them were actually double LP's...bargain!!!

Since u were ready to throw them away...transfer wat u need/like into digital format and sell/give away the vinyls to someone who'll be able to use them fully...

Find something to keep em in. It shouldn't be too hard finding something.

Papercutt aka Tab The Taper(The one that plays with Tumi of the volume) is still Papercutt. The other DJ now known as Pkuttah had to drop the name Papercutt because the real Papercutt had already registered the name. It's not just a name it's a brand. He has a new mixtape out and Papercutt t-shirts(If u want one hola at me). Come check him out playing with Tumi at the RIOT.

Eyo Bee. it's almost christmas, so in the spirit of giving send all those vinyls to me as a present ;D

Here's what you do,
you get two TECHNICS 1200's or 1210's record players, get SHURE M44-7 Needles, get a RANE TTM 57SL Mixer (that way you will have built in Serato Scratch Live Compatability, so you'll be able to throw some of your mp3's in the mix), and make mixtapes for all your friends, you'll be the coolest one, cause you actually got the vinyl, and the sound quality on record is much better anyway, if you don't want them anymore, make a list of what you got, and I might make an offer..

You got your self props for that son.  :). I'll check out the material you talking about . If it too much of a fuzz, I'll PM you ma nicc. The coolest thing is that I got a collection of instrumentals and Accapellas (even the Dead Prez's Mind Sex, an ol' Bad Boy Collection) clean and radio edits, ma nic. (Check I'm even kicking the terms now dawg  ;))

Thanks for the history lesson ::) ::)...the reason why i still call PKuttah, Papercut is coz I used to call him by that name 10 years ago already before anything was registered

Raiko might be interested in them too, if you really trying to sell them, go with the best offer, just keep it realistic, you can reference check what your records are worth/or what people think they can get for them in the marketplace at discogs.com.

You might be able to come up on a deal for some of the equipment at newegg.com or maybe ebay or craigslist.

Copped me a cheap AKAI record player with some speed problems that I sent for fixing today. Apparently these things are hunted like Rama Magarine and Bread in the hood. Hooked that ish on an amplifier and was playing Guru---Gangstarr and Naughty By Nature---Written On Ya Kitten (crazy Album Cover) yesterday. The sound is quite different from the nowadays one. Loved it. But couldn't hear 'em lyrics since ish is fast. Technics-----------eish------I checked it out mate. Ish is mad expensive---however, for the love of this music I is chucking in some monthly installments for a product which costs about R7000.00. Comes with a mixer and two turntables.
