Title: PETITION TO GET LEE KASUMBA BACK ON Y-FM
Post by: The CHEF on December 09, 2008, 01:00:07 PM
After reading the press release, I felt obliged by MrC's words and start it off... feel free to add yo name or smack me if you wanna... you'll still get this on my blog

trompie-siameseentertainment.blogspot.com

Due to unforseen and unknown circumstances, the hip hop fretirnity is about to loose one of its female soldiers to we don't know what... therefore Im urging all hip hop cadres to take part by showing support to her by signing this PETITION

1. TROMPIE - SIAMESE Entertainment (c)

2. MrC & The Federation.

We can use other avenues as well. Places like Osmic's store and the other joint in PTA, ventilation.co.za should all be encouraged to have their own petitions. Then we can take everything to YFM. f*** em.

Personally I wouldn't like her to stay in an environment where she would be treated like she crap. Her career has been free of controversy and not once have I heard or read anything scandalous about her. Excellent amba**ador for Y and hip hop really... Yet she was treated that way. I say she must keep moving. Someone else will scoop her up in no time.  Y-FM have lost out badly.

It's not necessarily about getting Lee back on the show, cos maybe she does not want to stay on.

It's about trying to save the show, cos clearly looks like they gonna can it. Second it's about us letting them know that we as the "hip-hop community" are not happy with the way she was treated. That's all.

I've created a CENTRAL online petition. It's doesn't take that much time.Just sign the damnn thing. This an opportunity for us to show these f***ers that we can unite and be one for once. Lee has done so much for a lot of people on this site, this is the least we can do.

PLEASE SPREAD the WORD. THAT's the only way we gonna get YFM's attention. Send emails, put it up as your FB status. If this doesn't take off ,then it's our failure collectively to protect our own.

I see you on that... even if she wont go back, but

1. Y-FM needs to realize how many of us were behind her work, same as she should
2. Y-FM needs to know employment equities and employee rights (pointing to what they informed their Dj's about studio regulations

South Africans dont care about a lot of things. What possible reason would they want to care about hip hop? We are almost as useless as the Mexicans. (Note, i said almost. Its really quite impossible to get more useless than that.)

There are no facts, or figures. Because everybody involved in SA hip hop, is either poor or works a 9 to 5. Or has at least 3 other hustles on the side to sustain his/her hustle.

To invest in SA hip hop financially is good old fashion foolishness.

I personally thought the Bridge sucked!
I dont want it brought back honestly.

But what SUCKS more is the way HIPHOP is being treated in SA!
Not just LEE, but all of us!
I co-sign that the way they treated LEE was unacceptable and I am willing to champion the fight against that injustice and ALL injustices that HIPHOP in SA is facing!

This is why I urged us all to come together and fight this together.
All of us have experienced the same, if not worse, treatment just as Lee did.

This is about ALL OF US!
Let us unite now!!!!!

Beleive me, the worst is yet to come if we do not stand up now!

Surely you must be happy that Lee was sacked then? OK, you don't like the way she was treated which is fair enough, but employers f*** over their employees every day of the week.

The disturbing thing about The Bridge being taken off air is that is was the last place on commercial radio where you could hear 'non-commercial' Hip Hop. Which other show is gonna play Ben Sharpa or Ootz?

But D, you are answering your question already. ie it was the last place on commercial radio where you could hear 'non-commercial' Hip Hop.

Honestly you cant expect to hear NON COMMERCIAL music on a COMMERCIAL music station.
Do you expect to hear Cla**ical music on a Modern Urban station?
Or Afrikaans music on a Sotho station?

The perfect situation would be to have a NON COMMERCIAL music station and a COMMERCIAL music station. Not to force NON COMMERCIAL music to a station that plays COMMERCIAL music. Obviously this will cause a conflict of interests and this could possibly have been the reason behind this whole Lee situation.

All they needed was a REASON *I can see them now, on some...Lets tell Lee that she can drink water in the studio, then when she spills the water,BAMM! we got her!!!!* lol. Its f***ing ridiculous! But thats all they needed, A REASON.

I'm glad the Bridge is over, but I think I would have preferred it if it was LEE who pa**ed the baton onto the younger generation to continue with a fresh new approach, instead of being mistreated and forced out the way she was. I would have preferred the LAST episode to be a celebration of her long illustrious career at Y and an acknowledgement of her contributions to where hiphop is now.
I would have preferred her to bring in a protege' perhaps, a young woman who represents the youth NOW, just like LEE represented the youth 8 yrs ago, to continue the journey.
I would have preferred her to go out with a BANG(rather than a spill).

I mean if she was a House DJ, YFM would have thrown a Good Bye Party or something? Guess since its hiphop " aw f*** it"

But things dont always turn out the way you wish they should.

What was the rumour about DA LES taking over?

All the best to Lee and hope she can continue to shine for all women in hiphop!

I see the point Cash is making i.e. you dont have to be a big fan of The bridge to realise that they treated Lee badly. Or that they are treating SA hip hop with contempt.  That's seeing the bigger picture.  I hope Lee goes to a competitor like Metro FM. It's a loss for SA hip hop. I hope SA doesnt lose her or anthother hip hop activist for the matter.

If the BBC in the UK can have speciality shows why can't we have them in SA? In fact, pretty much every country in the world has speciality shows on their commercial stations.

The last thing SA needs is Da LES playing the same shit we hear every day on all the other stations - he'd just be T'bo Touch Mk. II. What's the point? I spent the evening last night flicking between MTV / MTV Base / Channel O / Trace - I must have seen Akon and TI about 20 times. It's no wonder that MTV is laying off staff all over the world and moving towards original programming rather than showing music videos! It's boring as hell! I turn on the radio and it's the same shit. Thank god I've got the internet or I'd give up listening to music.

Sharpa is blowing up across the world and getting mad spins all over the place (we're busy booking his third European tour and planning shows in the US too) - yet he can't get his home country to play 1 track on the radio! We just did a deal with Nokia to provide them with embedded content on their new phones - but we can't get 1 radio station in SA to play a track! Can't you see how absurd this whole situation is?

If someone could show me figures to prove that The Bridge was getting no listeners, or that advertisers were pulling out of that slot, I'd understand. I have heard that this is not the case.

IT would have been helpful if we knew exactly what is happening with her and the show before we start signing petitions or debating about staff.

does any one know exactly what is going on, is lee being sacked? is the show being canned?has is it been suspended?till when? why? the WHAT part of all this is being disregarded but already people are signing up staff...

i think a team should be appointed to get the basic information about this whole thing and come back to AG... ???

Lee is gone. The bridge sadly is no more. She cost the station R500 000. I don't care who you are. If you cost the company that much and this is not you first warning. you need to go! I think it's time she left Y any ways. She needs to put her self on a bigger platform so that the whole country can learn where hip hop in the country is.

Hamba Kahle Lee.

Are YFM retarded enough not to insure their equipment against accidental damage? If their rules allow sealed water bottles in the studio and an accident occurs, surely they can have no complaints - it's just that, an accident. If they had expressly forbade any drinks in the studio and an accident occurred, then they'd have the right to be annoyed.

There must be a hidden agenda at work here. Whatever happened, it reflects very badly on YFM.

Just got word that DA BRIGDE will be back in January so we might have been a bit ahead of ourselves.

What does that mean? Is Lee gonna be back or only the name(Da Bridge) will be back?
Is Kenny and Ace not officially part of the crew, why cant they hold it down in the meantime...?
I hope they not gonna make Motso the new hostess of Da Bridge!

Just pa**ing on the message.Got it from Simone who was told by Osmic.

we will keep everybody posted on whats happening to the bridge.we have been having talks with YFM about the show so ill keep all on A.G. informed.

She cost the station R500 000. I don't care who you are.

No, she didn't. Get your facts right. Don't come in here and spread bullshit you sucked out of your thumb.

Whatever is whatever. All I'm saying is loads of muffukkas come into studio and rock f***in prawns and cooler bags and rock ribs with their fingers and shit by the desks, on different f***in shows too. Hilarious shit man, wtf?? I don't know. Y are not hell demons but this story is a bit sordid. It's also not really making Lee look bad if you catch the drift that's already been put down here a couple of times.

Late last year YFM management held a meeting with all the DJs to inform them that liquids in a sealed container, like a bottle, would be allowed in the studio. It is with this information in mind that I took a bottle of water into the studio on the night of 4 November 2008 before my show.

I personally for one refuse to sign any petition involving lee and Y-FM solely for the reason of the lack of support and respect Y-FM has given Real hip-hop over the years.. Every hip-hop show that has been presented on y-fm has been at dodgy hours, Never had advertisement, other shows have sponsored events but hardly if ever has this happened with the hip-hop shows. Y-FM doesn't deserve hip-hop.

I would rather make a donation to Lee to organise her own radio show 24/7 strictly hip-hop.. and not that isht of a j-live track playing straight after a flo rider track. We heads should come together learn from the examples of other indepedant orgs. No-ones gonna do for us, we gotta do it ourselves
