Title: Hungry folks
Post by: THAT LADY! on December 11, 2008, 10:27:21 AM
Ever been out for dinner and you don't seem to eat all your food " course you full " and then you take it home , but never get to it and throw it away? Imagin if you stopped by the traffic lights and gave that to a hungry kid what difference that would make to one person.

Kids on the street are doing crazy things to get by in the world, lets do something about it, even if it's just one kid, just one thats where it all begins.

I do that every time. Not a big fan of restaurant food after it's been sitting in the fridge for a day or two. I always give my leftovers to either the car guard or whoever is on the street on the way home.

I always finish my food. There's nothing like ribs, cold pizza, or steak in the morning after a night of drinking.

I never leave food on my plate at the restaurant, I always ask for a doggy bag, even if I don't plan on eating it, cos otherwise the food just ends up in the rubbish, cos the workers aren't allowed to eat it either.

Rather take it and give it away.

lol.
I usually CHOW everything. but if i take a doggy bag, i'll probably be hungry by the time i get home and LAUNCH that before going to bed or back in the studio.

I dont think "throwing it away, or giving it away has ever been a thought for me"

I'm surprised.

I grew up quite differently, my mom never made us do things out of our will, like forcing a child to eat would not be something my mom would do. I really don't know what happend to the food tho.

We will appreciate if ppl show up at the gig, (which of course 5fm is involved in it already) to come support, hopefully bring what may be found on the wish list (from the site: http://aneworder.co.za/ (http://aneworder.co.za/))

I am hoping that AGians will support our fellow brothers and sisters that had it hard in all types of weathers and living conditions.

PS: The event is this SATERDAY

But seriously guyz, we can make a difference.

Im thinking of helping out just one kid for xmas. I wont buy any gifts for my family and friends this year. I'll spend that money on buying a kid food , washing him or her, taking the kid to a fun fair and just allowing the kid to be a kid.

Tell your GF's and your BF's no gifts this year you giving their gift to charity.  :-*

Don't get me wrong right here........but everytime it's been handouts and give aways..........you know...that's okay---helping people like that, but remember you are arming them with beggar mode skills. Instead, try and arm them with something else. Make them take the responsibility and control of their lives. In that way, you'll have less people to give food to in the streets.

No I was not late ... but I actually mentioned it here: http://www.africasgateway.com/forums/index.php?topic=25133.msg188829#msg188829 (http://www.africasgateway.com/forums/index.php?topic=25133.msg188829#msg188829) and as usual, only a few picked that up... unfortunately, for those that never take note of my post, they sometimes tend to be blaming it on not seeing it or threads being derailed...thanx GOD this was not....

I honestly sympathize with Street kids and what they went through, it aint fun and never will be. The shelter (in this matter, the Twilight) is just asking for small donations to make it a better Christmas for these kids.

I feel ashamed how this thread can continue with such ridiculous jokes without even more people having legit concerns... wait till it happens to you!!!

What really prompted me to start giving more was after watching this weeks special a**ignment. My heart go's out to those kids Trompie. I read the links , checked out the Twilight house and I wanna give and I'll convince everyone in my family to do the same this Xmas.

Since we are on this... i feel i must share this. A few friends of mine on saturday mornings give thier time to an Aids orphanage. where instead of throwing money and things (not discrediting that) they give thier time, wash the kids, feed and play with them, make them feel loved for at least 2 hours on that day. it goes a long way. they look forward to you coming and spending time with them and expressing love, love they need. something i will be doing myself

if anyone is interested i can pm you the details on how to get involved.

i was also brought up to eat everything on my plate too, but i'm all grown up now and if I'm not hungry any more, I ain't gonna eat - simple.

The only place where I'm keeping my leftovers is Bukhara - Indian food tastes even better the next day.

Since we are on the subject, anyone in Cape Town & DBN interested in being a tutor for kids from township & rural schools in subejcts like English, Maths, Computer Literacy, etc should halla at people from Ikanva Volunteers. Saterdays only.  I havent been really involved this year but more info is on their webiste and tehir google group. (http://www.ikamvayouth.org/). It's a good programme that makes a difference to many kids. You could also play a supporting role (e.g. transport, administration, etc) if you cant get involved in preparing tutorials or giving tutorials.

Mad Raper you cant participate in this one as it requires some brains. You would mess up the kids' minds.
