Title: UEFA BUILD UP
Post by: 1kind on February 20, 2009, 03:40:48 PM
I'm not really a betting man, but the fixtures that have been scheduled in the knockout rounds of the UEFA champions league are too good to be true.

Who do you think has a realistic chance of winning this? I'm a Man U supporter but my money would probably be on Inter... :(...

I've marked all the teams i think will win in their games with a (w)... and i've got tons of reasoning to back it up. Nostradamus in the house...

Atletico Madrid (w)  v Porto

Lyon v Barcelona (w)

Arsenal  v Roma (w)

Inter (w) v Man U

Liverpool (w) v Real Madrid

Juventus (w) v Chelsea

Villareal (w) v Panathinaikos

Sporting v Bayern (w)

I can't wait

7/9 Correct. Not bad.

I would switch these two around, then we good.

Inter v Man U (w)

Liverpool v Real Madrid (w)

Of late Manchester has not been as lethal in front of goal as the past seasons. Of course the fast-paced attacking build up is ever present with the likes of Ronaldo, Nani, Tevez, Park...but the finishing this season has not been up to Man U standard. The goal tally for this season is well below where it was at the same stage in the previous 3 seasons. Rooney has just come out of injury and one would hope that he is back to scoring ways...

The only plus for us at the moment is that the defence is on point. I'm confident that Vidic and Ferdinand can deal adequately with Ibrahimovic. However Inter is in fine form as a team, with the a formiddable attacking unit. It will be close but I will reluctantly (as a Man U supporter) give Inter the victory in this match up...

I have a gut feeling that Liverpool will really upset Real Madrid

sir black...forget about it. Arsenal is not nearly as strong as Roma...even with Eduardo back. Whether Arshavin will even be a factor to consider is doubtful, because Arsene himself was not confident about Arshavin's match fitness. Roma will take it.

Not so sure about Roma especially after the Atalanta trashing and they having a terrible season, i'll put my money Arsenal!

Arsenal and Roma are very evenly matched

Check out their stats:

                P       W    D      L       F      A      Diff   Pts  League Pos.
Arsenal     25   12   8   5     38     25     13     44    5
Roma     24   12   4   8     36     31     5     40    6

It's going to be tight. I think we can do it though. Italian teams don't travel well to England.

Arsenal will advance no problem. Roma need to ask AC Milan (whooped then  2-0 at the San Siro last season) and Inter Milan (whooped them 5-1 at the San Siro a f ew seasons ago). Juve might also remember crashing out to us. On all occa**ions we were  underdogs.

For Arsenal: Failing to score in your last 3 premier league games should be enough of a warning sign...

I actually wish Arsenal would advance. I'd like them to have a good showing this season in the Champion's League, since they won't be there next season.

I think its also time for Benitez to go now. I'm starting to doubt whether we can beat Real the way we have been performing of late. Why does he refuse to play the strongest team we have and insist on some below par players starting every time?

Great performance by LFC.... thats the attacking football we needed at Middlesborough.. or against hull or fulham!!!! it is for that reason i maintain that RAFA MUST GO. its this false hope that he gives us then come the weekend he spits in our faces by fielding a nonsense team.....Beating real madrid doesnt mean shit because we have beaten barca, juve, atletico, inter milan etc..but we will take another 4 years to win the league!!

damn! wat a lesson for real last nite! who wud have thought? (except onekind) well done liverpool.

i don't understand y there's so much pessimism amongst y'all wen it comes to inter - united.. we held them at the siro.. surely we must be favourites at home. but its great that we aren't. <like we aren't the current league cup holders?????>
Title: Re: UEFA BUILD UP
Post by: Dpleezy on March 11, 2009, 09:33:44 AM
Liverpool played well but had their usual Anfield luck - Torres pulled Pepe off balance as he was about to make an interception and Heinze clearly didn't handle the ball for the penalty. Having said that, Real offered nothing in return and Liverpool were all over them for most of the game.

Chelsea have become a machine again like they were under Mourinho. It's amazing how badly Scolari f***ed them up. Juve were weak though - you just knew they weren't going to be able hold off Chelsea for 90 mins.

Just need Arsenal to do the business in Rome tonight. Half of Roma's first team is out injured so I think we have a good chance, plus we have the away goals on our side if we score (which we will). I can't see Inter doing anything against Man U - they are just too strong at home and Italian clubs don't travel well.

Just thought I'd post this for all you SA Scousers...

"Real Madrid are not accustomed to enduring an opening to a match as devastating as the one Liverpool inflicted on them last night. As the red shirts swarmed through, around and over their opponents, never can the famous all-white strip, worn by the heirs to men who won the European Cup on a record nine occasions, have so closely resembled a flag of surrender."

Loserpool played some great football last night. Fast, Fluid and very effective. Real Madrid sucked balls. They need to do something cos that squad just aint cutting it. Plus i heard Raul says he wouldn't mind moving to the EPL next season.

Cheesy, i mean Chelsea, didn't deserve to win that game. They were f***en lucky. Co-sign Sir Black about that Giovinco kid. He's flames.

It's on tonight though. Watch us get one step closer to trophy # 3 this season. My spanish peeps gonna kick a** to.

Why would Raul want to move to the EPL.  Im sad to see Robinho's talent going to waste at Man City, hes only at his best when playing for his country remember the Brazil vs Italy game few weeks ago,i was on youtube checking those Back heel pa**es Ronaldinho makes and his combination with Robinho. That was a great match.

Yeah, we did it. It was a tough game as Roma had the extra motivation of hosting the finals this season. The penalties were stressful, especially when Eduardo missed the first one.

Anyway, I hope we get Man U, Liverpool or Chelsea in the next round. We can beat them all ;)

I can't see Raul moving to England, he's far too old to adapt to the pace, power and aggression. The climate is not suitable for older players used to Southern European warm weather either.

For a start, we've already beaten you once this season. Our team has also been destroyed by injuries this season but we're still on course for the FA Cup and the European Cup (and I believe we will qualify for the Champions League). We've had to rely on very young players who have done extremely well considering the pressure they have been under (Bendtner is only 20 years old and has scored some crucial goals for us).

Man U only 'scraped' through Chelsea to win in Europe last year because Terry slipped. We might have needed to go to penalties against Roma, but we still won. Inter hit the post twice last night with Van der Sar nowhere near them - if those had gone in, you'd be out.

How you gonna talk about destroying a beautiful team. Our first choice team of Van Persie, Adebayor/ Eduardo, Fabregas, Arshavin/ Walcott, Nasri, Denilson, Rosicky, Toure, Gallas, Clichy and Sagna can beat anyone on their day and play the most attractive football in the world and you know it.

I actually respect Fergie and the way Man U play, it's their fans who are the problem.

The only way Arsenal can make the Semis is if they get Porto or Villareal in the quarters. I can't see them coming out victorious in 2-legged ties against the likes of MrC's 'I love them both equally'. Injuries have really hampered us. Denilson and Diaby are not the sort of players one can count on. Guys like  Xavi, Yaya Toure, Gerrard, Scholes will just bulldoze them. We need Fabregas and Rosicky badly. Bendtner and Eboue are not cutting it. Clichy was  mad sloppy last night, getting caught on the wrong side of attackers on numerous occa**ions. I still think Eduardo, Nasri and Van Persie are world cla** though. Credit to Nasri and Van Persie for their efforts last night. Walcot will be major as well. When we're at full strength, we can match anyone anywhere but right now, it's tough. Our central midfield is shaky. We need a hard man, to do the donkey work and complement Cesc. We used to have Vieira, Gilberto and Flamini but now we're a bit short. I hope we make the semis but right now, I don't know.

Now here's an objective man.Co-sign everything you say Lez. Like i said early on this year, when this little squabble between "us" and "ya'll" started, you do have some great players. In a year or two maybe, yes, you will be a formidabble force, the signs are all there, but just not this season. Arsene has too much "new" blood and very little experienced players, the likes of Giggs and Scholes, like we have, who can complement your team.

I really got nothing against Arsenal. I think you did play some very good football beginning of the season and ya'll kinda looked deadly.Im a football fan and will give props where props are due. Just that ya'll Arsenal fans always got it in for us.You very rarely give us complements even though u know we deserve them. Alex is a smart man,who gets his team to play exactly the way he wants them to. It's only lately where ya'll have acknowledged our achievements, and simply cos you got no choice. We doing very well.

Been a great season of football so far.

Come on C, what kinda Arsenal fan gon' compliment Man U. or even Liverpool for that matter? That's like a Pirates fan talkin' 'bout "Yeah Chiefs is an excellent team, they play great football" just ain't never gone happen. Can you imagine a Glasgow Celtic fan onsome "....yeah Glasgow Rangers are the best in Scotland" impossible. So let's just keep the beef simmering (at an acceptable level though) and lastly f*** Man. Who made these rules about supporting only one team ? Please refer me to the dundahead cos it's ridicuolos. These teams play most of their football outside of each other perimeters, so where's the harm. It's different leagues. It's only in the CL where they meet.

So because i support Kaizer Chiefs, i can't support Man U ? Please help me understand why not.Im sure most of the cats here also support local teams as well. Are they @ fault too ? I support Manu and Barca cos they play good football.I've never been to Manchester or Barcelona, so this isn't some stupid "city" pride shit like people in those areas. It's cos of the football.

Im sure ya'll don't mind that i support Chiefs and Manu at the same time. But cos it's Barca and Manu it's different ? Is it cos it's "EUROPE" so that makes it unacceptable ? hmmmmm.

I've been saying that MrTwoTeams is trying to be safe. There's very little chance of him being disappointed. Who the hell supports two powerhouses?! At least he chose winning teams. Man U are slightly better than Barca this season. Barca's attacking play is excellent but their defence is suspect. Man U are well-balanced.

I don't understand people who support multiple teams, it goes against the whole nature of supporting.

Supporting is something you do because you identify with one team and that's your team for life, pa**ed down through generations. It's unconditional love, through good times and bad times, and comes with an irrational hatred of certain other teams. Every other team is a potential threat to your team - you can't be supporting them!

There's no pleasure in supporting multiple teams because you can't really lose, and that's exactly the problem. You can't really win if you don't have 100% investment in any one thing.

My family back home are die hard AJAX fans, all of them! they despise and make jokes about Feyenoord aaaaaall day long, they don't like PSV either, but they really don't like Feyenoord, lol, you'll find that with most people from Amsterdam.

Due to this I too love AJAX, seeing that AJAX are the only club I have seen play, besides a couple of 1.FC Köln matches, while in Germany (in Cologne it gets a little more interesting by the way, the city has two clubs Fortuna Köln being the other) so the people are automatically divided between the two teams (most suport 1.FC though). Back in the 60's and 70's, 1.FC arch-rival was Bayern München, and they dislike them the most to this day. Even though 1.FC struggles to maintain a spot in the 1. Bundesliga.

I'm surprised that half way around the world, people are as fanatic about their favorite clubs, as they are in the clubs hometown, and that the exact same quarrels play out as they would back home.

I wish they would lose though, cos I can already see us getting them in the next leg. We always get the toughest draws.

It's all very well showboating against Malaga - I can't see them doing that against Bayern.

I think Liverpool have got what it takes to beat Barca, especially on your current form.

There's no way we're going to lose to Villareal. Anyone who thinks differently is just a hater :)

Until recently I didn't think Man U could lose to Porto, but after their recent form, anything is possible. Still think it's unlikely though.

well so far it's not looking good for my predictions...

manchester conceded 2 goals at home which means that all porto have to do is hold them to  goalless draw. a few weeks back i would not have considered us to even be in such a predicament...but i have utmost faith in my beloved red devils. we've had lazarus-like come-backs before, so it would be wise for you haters to hold your naysaying until the final whistle is blown at porto...

as for arsenal... they came back in the second half...which is good for them. but like i said before, they should not underestimate villareal. of course arsenal will be playing at home in the next fixture, but villareal is one of those teams who play like they've got nothing to lose. they will bring it...so arsenhol should prepare. good luck

It was really exciting to see Porto all over  Man United by possession.Even if they draw 0-0 or 1-1 Porto will go through the semis.

TODAY MOFOS IS THE DAY THE PRODIGAL SON "Michael Essien" will Destroy n be all over The Liverpool Midfield.

So, at half time (over two legs), I'd say it's advantage Arsenal and Porto.

I'm not underestimating Villarreal, but we're going to be at home with an away goal in the bag. Villarreal are not big goalscorers either - they have been drawing a lot, or winning 1-0. We'll come at them in the first half like they came at us. The difference will be that we won't wilt in the second half.

It's hard to call the Man U / Porto second leg. Man U can beat anyone on their day, but their form has been patchy recently. Porto's home support will be intimidating. It should be an epic clash. I'm going for Porto (mainly because I hate Man U).

Arsenal Vs. Porto with Arsenal going through (obviously).

Well NUCCCAAAAA, what about all the goals Barcelona scored in the group stages ? We had a 5-0, 5-1 and a 6-2. And im not underestimating Bayern. They are a good team, not a spectacular team. Plus Ribbery is coming to Camp Nou next year.haha !!! Even Farsenal could beat Bayern.

But D, i'm all for London pride and all and the blues under Hiddink are shining but facing just the frontline of Barca is like facing Tyson, Randy Couture and Wolverine in a 3 on 1 handicap match. I reckon that Blues v Barca semi will be messy and low scoring.

Final is gonna b one of the following, With Barca winning of course.

1.Barca vs. Chelsea
2.Barca vs. Arsenal
3.Barca vs. Man U

Im so wishing for # 2 right now. Give ya'll a good lesson in football.

i'm shivering at the moment. sunderland made us work harder than we should this weekend, and history does not favour us in the tie with Porto. i'm hoping for 2 early goals at the drachau and then we can take it easy.

our attack is okay...but our defense is looking more questionable every week. the absence of ferdinand is telling. vidic looks lost without his partner in crime to control things in the center.  i would rather have evra and neville on the left and right respectively, because evans is not ready for the heat.

make no mistake though we will bury porto alive.

arsenal is quite lucky... marcos senna (the ball winning midfielder) is out injured and carzola is out.. but i still have some faith in villareal (albeit a faith driven by my dislike for arsenal)

i cannot see how liverpool will score 3 goals at the bridge, but they will definitely try. that will be the game to watch. flames galore. chelsea may edge that, but they should be careful not to concede the early goal...and watch out for those late goal specials by liverpool.

as for bayern, i would love to think that they are not dead and buried, but 5 goals is a gargantuous task. with ribery being the only one holding it down for the german team it will not be enough... but who knows...

let it rip!!!!!  ribery and messi will compete for uefa player of the year... their performances this season are too tight.

The boys went down fighting. Good game, even though Lady Luck wasn't on our side.

I don't think they deserved it though. Except for two, all their goals were from silly little slip ups and they made us pay. We did play a better game though, but as Arsenal fans can attest, it's not about who plays the better game, but who puts the chances away.

Chelsea vs. Barca should be a great game. There is no way Chelsea will be as soft in midfield or at the back as Bayern. Also unlike Bayern, Chelsea pose a much greater goal threat. It's definitely going to be close over two legs.

I would much rather have faced Porto than Man U. I think there's always extra motivation to win when it's two english teams because of the history. this works both ways, but Man U aren't top of the premiership for nothing. Another really tight one to call. Obviously i'm going with the gunners ;)

Ya'll are kidding me right ? First it was Chelsea gonna suprise us @ the Nou Camp, now it's @ Standford Bridge ? hahahahaha !!! whatever man. They were totally outplayed yesterday. I don't think they went in with a defensive approach as their strategy for the game, that's just how the game turned out to be.That's how it is when u play Barcelona people. This is something i keep trying to highlight here. Great pa**ing, outstanding possession of the ball and penetrating attacks.Barca is the best TEAM in the world. If you didn't see that yesterday against a giant like Chelsea then i don't know. Same shit happened to Bayern and countless other victims.Even ManU last year were totally dominated by the Catalans in both legs of the Semi's. Obviously it's gonna be hard when you constantly got 8 Chelsea players hanging around the 18 area all the time. You can't sit there and praise Chelsea for their defense and dimiss Barca for not scoring. Chelsea were kaak. Barca were brilliant @ times.God knows we had very close moments. But it's all good. We just need a goal @ Stamford Bridge and it's over for them. Then Arsenal is next. Behold. muhahahahahahahaha !!!!

Oh and someone please explain to me what happened to Essien ? Wasn't he supposed to take Messi out the game or something ? hmmmmmmm.

Chelsea are gonna take down Barca at the Bridge.

didn't they let in like 4 goals at the bridge just recently?

Last night they parked their team bus in defense and to win they'll need to be a bit more adventureous that's when Barca will get the space they were denied in Nou Camp.

Chelsea played what some wise coach called "anti-football", negative football. save for that Drogba chance they did nothing but defend, with 10 players nogal.

Good luck to The Catalan for the second leg, I do not wish to see another boring final which is guaranteed if the blues progress. A Barca-Gunners final is gonna be a win for good football.

i think yesterday we all saw that barca aint got a defence... they have yaya sitting in front of the defence, clearin the line and then attacking, they attack so much u dont get the chance to attack, and it dont help that cech kept kickin the ball aimlessly everytime which meant the attack came back at them, was a bit dissapointed in the match, hoped for some box to box typa game but chelsea was negative from the onset.

no illusions lets hope we show man-u a lesson and then meet barca in the final... im realy looking forward to that cos that will be a great game of football.

I heard from the tv commentator that it was the first time Barca didnt score at home this season so yeah Congrats Chelsea for holding them down we came there to defend, big deal. Barca defence is weak(yaya and that tall a** dude) pity we couldnt take our chances. We going to exploit that department come  May 05 at the Slaughterhouse.

Yaya Toure doesn't play Defense. He's a holding middlefielder. Yeah our defence is not the best, but it aint weak. Ya'll dudes hardly went @ it yesterday so what u talking about ? Marquez's pa** to Valdes was the only "real" mistake they made yesterday.

On another note,U know what actually, f*** a Arsenal. Ya'll aint even getting pa**ed the Red Devils. Ya'll are babies man.

Yo, Mr Two teams i don't want to even hear you big up Man U... you must state your loyalties right now. stop sitting on the fence man... it's annoying having a spineless fan who keeps jumping around like a flea in search of the best place to sit and suck.

from your comments it is clear that you are a Barcelona fan. No one will hate on you if you are. but you can't sleep in every bed like a gigolo. be a man, and choose a team and stand by your word or just shut the f*** up!!!!

anyway...

Chelseas went there to defend. that was clear from the outset. and as much as they played negatively, you have to big them up for stopping barca from scoring at the nou camp. they are confident that they will rape barcelona at the bridge. that is tactical. the game they will be playing at the bridge will be very different to the game they played at nou camp.

as for arsenal, watch what happens to you tonight. i've been waiting to shut you all up for a long time. arsenal fans speak so much and have nothing to show for it. all they can do is criticise Man U, and bitch about the 'injury-ridden' season. Well today show us what you're made of...

It's time to put up or shut up!!!

i watched the barca vs real game over here - that was some of the most beautiful football i have seen in a long time. truly a joy to watch. however, even after seeing barca destroy (and humiliate real), i still believe that chelsea are a very different side - if anyone has the key to stopping barca, it's chelsea under hiddink.

i think it's going to be a close game, but i'm still going with chelsea. i think they have the power in midfield to disrupt barca's build ups. they are at home. barca are missing their captain puyol too.

as for arsenal, it depends which arsenal turn up. on our day we can beat anyone. we're only 1 goal down (which is a miracle). we're going to be much stronger at home. hopefully we'll have van persie and clichy back too. obviously the away goal could prove to be our downfall. keeping man u from scoring is going to be very tough. Man u are the favourites, but sometimes that motivation works in our favour.

My heart says Arsenal vs Barca final (with Arsenal winning).

No sweat.

Possible Substitutes @ the back

Victor Sanchez (been quite stable @ the back)
Caceres
Sylvinho (great experience, plus he's been going forward more this season)
Yaya Toure

Substitutes @ the front/middlefield to compensate for Henry

Bojan ( THE FUTURE)
Gudjohnsen (would probably love to play against his former team)
Keita (great eye for goals)
Hleb (dribbling wizard)

Yeah, we were outplayed by the better team. Unlucky for the first goal (Gibbs slip), poor goalkeeping for the second goal (no one should be able to score from that far out, not even Ronaldo),,, and then the game was over.

Still... being beaten by the current Euro champs and Prem league leaders is no disgrace. Hopefully we'll be luckier with injuries next season, add a couple more world cla** players (like Arshavin) and we'll be challenging on all fronts as always.

I still fancy Chelsea tonight. I don't care what you say, missing your two centre-backs (one of whom is the team captain) is going to play a huge part.

Wa**up with the Redcard though ? that was totally uncalled for from the referee. From where he was i could see how he could call a penalty for that challenge, although from the playback Fletcher clearly went for the ball, but why give the dude a RED CARD ?

i have this to say. those first 2 goals were unfortunate and stunned us, the last one was a good counter attack much like what we are very known for dishing out  ;) . what we need to work on is that fighting spirit akin to what liverpool posseses because we felt out in the first 10 minutes.

so next season it is then... see then.

oh hope barca or chelsea dont really care which right now, tears a new arsehole for y'all in the final... and hope ronaldo gets sent off for diving (bitch a** nigga shudnt be allowed to play football)

DRAMA , DRAMA , DRAMA !!!!!

Again for me Chelsea played negative football. It seems that's the only way to get @ Barca. Defend like hell, and try and get them on a counter. For me that's why Barca is "untouchable". 11 against 11, teams can't cope. They have to employ wack tactics like Chelsea did thru the two legs. Although Barca controlled the game again, Chelsea could have easily won. They had the most cut clear chances but didn't take them. Drogba is a COW for real. LOL !!! Like WTF ???? He would fit in very nicely @ Serie A, preferably playing alongside that other COW Inzaghi @ Milan. LOL !!

As for the referee, the only decision for me was the PIQUE handball. that definitely was a penalty and he should have given it.Everything else was debatable. Barca would have been dead and buried then. But i think he was trying to compensate for the Abidal's Red Cad. Like again why a red card ? Abidal didn't even foul dude. I think he knew after that decision that he would have to compensate Barca somehow.

BEAUTIFUL INIESTA !!!!

Overall im glad Barca won cos they deserved it. The were the better side again, Chelsea had the second goal been constantly presented to them from their counters but they couldn't take them. I told ya'll, LONDON CLUBS ARE WICK WIKEDY WACK. LOL !!!

And now for the dream final. And u know im neutral for that one.

hhe MrC! i don't reali enjoy Chelsea's brand of football either but i respect it! y do u think football is only about attack and having the craziest line up of forwards? it makes for good entertainment i know but reali, how u gon shoot down a team for having a tite defensive approach to the game? rememba Real Madrid a couple of seasons ago? 11 against 11 and Barcelona didn't beat Chelsea did they? NO! now nawe, give sum props where they r due.. b fair and gracious in ur win! coz it almost didn't happen!

Yo MrTwoTEAMS+Referee A.K.A I'm Always Trying To Be Safe, Barca where lucky last night. Quit fronting. ScorIng in the dying seconds, all those penalty appeals... UEFA must do away with the away goals rule. It's unfair for teams to go out of the tournament when the scores are level. It makes no sense! Tactically, Hiddink was the superioir coach. I think his game plans for both matches went the way he wanted them to. I'm positive most non-Man U supporters want Barca to win.
Title: Re: UEFA BUILD UP
Post by: MrC The Rap God Almighty on May 07, 2009, 11:01:26 AM
@ Koli

Chelsea are not a defensive team. They were forced to play the kinda of game they did over the two legs. That's what Barca does to teams. Even last years Semi-Final between Barca and Manu, Manu played just like Chelsea through the two legs. So im not gonna give props for packing 7 guys @ the back when it's something u are not used to doing and then call it brilliant defending. Dude's couldn't even hold the ball. Everytime they got it, Barcelona were on top of them and got the ball back very quickly. Is that something to praise ? NO. I agree football is not all about attacking, but Barca attacks so MUCH that at the end of it,they have very little defending to do.I think that's their strategy throughout most games, and that's why their defense is not that strong. They rarely get to play with all the possession Barca has going foward.

If i was Guus, i would have told them to pack that middlefield. That's the only way to cut out Barca's lifeline. Put heavy pressure in the middle field. Cos that's exactly how Barcelona plays. Bayern Munich nearly got it right in the second leg of the  Quarters. Once you give them no space to play in the middle, then you've got them.

And yes you are right,11 against 11 and Barcelona didn't beat Chelsea. It was 10 against 11. LOL !!!!

@Trinidad

Please tell me how im fronting ? Everything i wrote there is what happened isn't it ?

The way Chelsea played wasn't Hiddink's game plan, trust me.  Dudes were outplayed and outcla**ed, simple as that. Ya'll keep making excuses for them, like that's how they approached the game.  PLEASE MAN !!! Chelsea are an attacking team. With middlefield Wizard's like Lampard's, Essien's and Deco's (come back home boy) when have they ever been that defensive ?

Barcelona - great middlefield, brilliant attacking play, shaky defence. that's 2 out of 3.
Chelsea - wack middlefield, wack attacks (mostly counters, very little build-ups), and good defence (actually forced defence), that's 1 good department outta 3. You do the math and tell me who's the stronger team.

Yes Barca were lucky, doesn't take away that Chelsea were still wack in both legs.

Dont know if I want to go back and read all these posts on this thread. I feel Chelsea controlled and owned the entire game.

although we had chances to seal the win we didnt take them add
Terrible, horrid ref, I really feel bad for all the Chelsea players who put in such a great effort and totally deserved to win only to be beaten by the ref. Barcelona had nothing, nothing at all until the 94th minute. I wont watch the final anyway.

hahahahaha.u kidding right ? owned and controlled the game ? LMAO. they had the most open chances, YES, but they controlled nothing.
It's funny, Andy Gray even said, when Abidal got the red card, that he didn't expect much change. Barca were still gonna pressure Chelsea. Which is exactly what happened.

If Chelsea if such a great team, how is it that even with 1 more man, they still didn't do much.Possesion was still like 60-40%.

lets take the last two clashes between Unitd and Barcelona, both of which United won.. United did wat they had to for a win! at the end of the day, Ronaldo could have won us the first leg but missed the penalty if i remember correctly! we went through 1-0 second leg! RESULT! u may say we were defensive coz we were 'outcla**ed'.. how did we win then?

in 98 we scored 6 goals against U and U scored 6 goals against US.. thats hardly defensive! u don't go into every single game with the same game-plan in mind! really! now how many times have we(United) lost to Barcelona in the cup winners cup and ucl? we beat Barcelona regularly and we'll do it again! now, like diddy, take that!

Hiddinck had u! u were purely lucky to score! don't u at least get that?

they aren't such a 'great team'! thats the point! u guys were supposed to take them to the cleaners and leave them out to dry! remember how u were goin on about how Barcelona was gonna bulldoze Chelsea like it was gonna be a walk-over! the odds were heavily stacked against Chelsea! no one is sayin Chelsea is 'great' (except of course their fans), which is y evryone is on ur case now! u didn't beat them Pa! plain and simple.. u think Man United is gonna play a team thats scored 5 or more goals enuf times this season to have headlines dedicated to that stat like we're playin West Ham or somethin? nah darkie! same breath, Barcelona knows they can't loosely attack tryina score 5 goals against the No.1 team in the WORLD with a counter-attack rated amongst the best in the world! and the Fifa world player of the year amongst other things! Barcelona's BIG 'headedness' could b ur ultimate downfall! but we'll see...

so from a neutral's perspective

Barca did what they always do dominate and attack so much u dont get the chance to attack, so shrewdly the only way to play them is what chelsea did for most of the match. packing midfield dont work if ur guys aint strong and fast to take on Toure, iniesta, eto'o,xavi, messi (gotdamm) and henry when hes there and em' i aint even gon mention the defence cos its non-existent.

i think chelsea shouldve won, who deserved the game? maybe barca cos they were the better team (intention wise and good football wise) i always knew watching the game that they wud win, chelsea had the chances (albeit that penalty robbery) but still drogba f***ed up more than once.

still i prefer a barca - Man-u final...

now thats it Sir! perfect sense! Barca had to win bcoz thats the only way we'll know who the new best team in the world gonna b! the two most dominant and consistent in the world rite now! i also wanted Barca to win and neva doubted they would until a the 90th minute! then i didn't think they'd come away with it! 4 penalty decisions goin against one team in one game? must b a champions league record!

I have not commented on this thread for a while. it is better to keep quiet and watch everything unfold. i am not here to gloat about the Man U victory. i will leave the gloating for the day after the Stadio Olimpico showdown. I won't rub it in the faces of arsenal fans that they played dismally...because i'm sure they are feeling bad already...

as for Mr @ teams. I'm apologise for my earlier comments. I cannot dictate what you can and cannot support. It is a free world after all. However you must acknowledge that your reasons for needing to support 2 teams are the same as those used by bisexuals to justify their need for the intimate company of both sexes. Howevery everyone is entitled to their preferences and we will not judge you.

I will not even speak about the Chelsea v Barca match. I'm sure an inquiry will follow, because some of the decisions made by the ref were ridiculous.

oh...before i forget... when i was watching arsenal's performance the other day i couldn't help but notice and important aspect of their team...

To quote Patrice Evra, it was 'men against babies'.

A truly embarra**ing performance by Man U. Barca pa**ed them to death. Even with 10 minutes to go, Man U just looked like their spirits had been killed.

A bit of an anti-climax for the neutral, but the right team won.

I've said this pretty consistently throughout this thread. Barcelona is the best team in the world right now. It's not so much that MANU played bad,we all know they are a good team. It's just that Barca always, and i mean ALWAYS DOMINATES opposing teams when they play. They did it to Chelsea (although they were unlucky not to go through), they did it to Bayern, to Real Madrid, they would have even done it to Arsenal and even Red-HOT Liverpool had they met those teams. TOTAL DOMINATION. This is an incredible football team people. Now u can't deny it.

And this man right here. This little man is a FOOTBALL GOD. NOW BOW DOWN.

As a fan of both clubs im both happy and sad. Happy that Barca shut a lot of people's mouths who deny them their greatness for unknown reasons, sad that my English team didn't put up much of a fight. They were completely outcla**ed. Looked like MANU plays in some third division league somewhere in eastern europe.

Barca are gonna be a problem for a lot of teams for many years to come. Time for the Catalans to rise again.

Well done to Barcelona.

By far the best team and deserved to win. For sure

MESSI >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ronaldo

But Xavi and Iniesta ran rings around Carrick and Giggs - dudes had a terrible time. No wonder Anderson was substituted at halftime these dudes just couldn't keep up with the pa**ing, movement and bite in midfield.
Now i know why Fabregas doesn't get to play in the Spanish team.

I'll have to agree with Rooney, all the talk of Messi being the best is warranted but i really think Iniesta may be the best player in the world - dude is a freak.

Once again, well played.

Keep the cup safe for us  ;)

Well about players...the player I really bow down to in Barcelona is Samuel Eto'o...that dude is an incredible soccer player. Its funny becuase when Henry joined Barcelona...most people thought...he's gonna outshine Eto'o....but that never happened.

I dont recall Barca playing long balls. Congratz to Barca and Guardiolla you a legend,Alex didnt know what hit em. What a boring final. One team showed up while the other was so ga**ed up by its spineless fans and biased media that they didn't prepare for the match. Ferguson was thoroughly outcla**ed by Guardiola. I knew Man U wouldn't win the Champs League after they played Arsenal in the league at Old Trafford two weeks ago and got pa**ed off the park. I thought, "if they can't cope with our pa**ing game, imagine what Barca will do to them".

Xavi and Iniesta were comprehensive in midfield. Pa** after pa** after pa**. That's how the game should be played! Poor Carrick was stranded! Whenever Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't play well, neither do the rest of his teammates. I think Ronaldo is an excellent player but Messi is a bit smarter on the ball than he is, plus he's more of a team player. Was impressed with Wayne Rooney, he kept trying and trying , and hardly ever lost his cool (he's grown). I expected a cliffhanger last night was very disappointed at how easily Man U got dealt with.
Title: Re: UEFA BUILD UP

INIESTA>>>>>>>MESSI >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ronaldo

Fixed!

Iniesta was dominant..he ran the game, he's been doing that all season..he can really do it all...he can pa** the ball around like Xavi, as well as Xavi even..but he can also run past defenders @ ease, a bit like Messi...the way he run through for that 1st goal was amazing. But Messi doesn't really run the game like Iniesta (yet!), he does his shit in short bursts here and there, but Iniesta is always on the ball..it's ridiculous how good he is..this season he's stepped up his game majorly

While I'm here LOL @ fergie's smug a** for selling Pique, Pique is looking damn near world cla** at the moment the way he strolls up the pitch with the ball is something a lot of defenders won't even attempt that shit, Ferdinand next to Pique would have surpa**ed the Vidic - Ferdinand combo  IMO fergie you dumba** FAIL

As much as I hope Owen will fail a Man U, I don't see it happening. Despite being very injury prone and having played with little to no supply at Newcastle he still managed to score quite a few. Imagine what he could pull off with good supply and less injuries.

Fact is the boy is a natural finisher, same as Fowler. Even with his pace gone, he can still score them.

Greetings all ye lovers of the beautiful game. This game-week is set up to be a an interesting one. The champions league is kicking off on the 15th and 16th of September, and there are some mouth-watering fixtures to look forward to.

There is a French-Italian war in this first week.

Juventus v Bordeaux

Marseille v AC Milan

Lyon v Fiorentina

The results for the matches listed above are hard to anticipate. All these teams are strong. We will await results.

Some of the bigger teams will be having some easy pickings too...

Bayern Munich v Maccabi Haifa

Man Utd v Besiktas

Real Madrid v FC Zurich

Liverpool v Debrecen

One would be forgiven to expect the giants to squash the davids in the above matches.

Games that will be more contested affairs include:

Chelsea v FC Porto

Arsenal v Standard Liege

However, the biggest game for this gameweek will be, Inter Milan v Barcelona. This game is not just a clash of the giants. Those who have been following the transfers will be eagerly awaiting the Clash between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto'o. Which one of these trophy-winning squads got the better end of the swap-deal?

There is gonna be more fire!!!

In your dreams homie. Inter are no match for Barca. Their only threat is Eto'o who perfected his craft with us by the way, so we know all about him.

Barca taking everything again this year. Ibrahimovic got 2 goals in 2 games already. Watch this space as the GOD grows in confidence.

Perfectly legitimate goal (according to the ref).

3 points away with about 6 first team players out. thank you very much.

We played Man U off the park and we lost. We played crap against Liege and we won. Go figure.

Inter vs. Barca was a borefest.

Zico complains about referee conspiracy

Olympiakos manager Zico suggested there was a french referee conspiracy in his team's 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday, complaining there should not have been a second goal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is French and many of his players are from the country. The four match officials were all from France.

"They scored a oal which was at least three yards offside. You can't understand how a linesman can miss something like that."

That's true though. Arshavin's touch was exquisite, but he was way off-side. But again,it's all part of football. People need to stop complaining about it match after match. Either bring in TV or live with it, simple.

No, it's not about the TV Mr Todd. It's about training the officials to be more consistent and accurate with their decisions. Trust me, that will stop all the complaints.

I have decided to give up my Liverpool supporter's membership until one of two things happen:
a) Rafa goes
b) We win the league.

I cannot believe how he keeps playing that f***ing useless Lucas and waits till 5 minutes before the end of the game before bringing ona another striker, not at the expense of the worst player on the field (Lucas), but at the expense of the best (Benayoun).

What the f***? Is Lucas giving him a** or something?

It's sad to see liverpool slip so badly. Out of the rest of the big 4, i find them the most tolerable. Of course we will demolish them this weekend. but we'll speak about that in the EPL thread....

to add on to PeeWees observations.

The way Rafa buys his players is really strange.

Liverpool has one complete striker! Fernando Torres... as you said Voronin Ngog, Babel and El Zhaar are fails. Kuyt plays more of a RW than a RF (which means he's not always available in the 18 area)

Who is your left winger? Riera is not being played... He's tried using Babel, Dossena, and even Aurelio in that area...with no effect.

Aurelio, Dossena and Insua are all LBs...while there is only one real RB...Glen Johnson.

Mascherano and Lucas are 2 holding midfielders...the latter being utterly useless.

Where is Aquilani going to play (when he's fully fit)? At Roma he played in the middle... Where Gerrard plays. He definitely won't replace Gerrard. Does that mean he'll replace Benayoun...who is best in the CAM role?

SMH

You are the next Newcastle. 8-9 years ago Newcastle was right up there in the title chases. They made bad decisions and plummeted.

what with beachball incidents and a nasty 2 nil loss on tuesday night.

Benitez was given much dought o play around with in all fairness.
But i agree he needs to stop buying geriatrics who look like they are the product of incestuous soviet relations.

Where is the bargain bin for players to groom?
Maybe Pool should check there?

Benitez DOES NOT have Ferguson's eye for talent ..I will tell you this.
Maybe Ferguson's eye without his specs on yes  ;D

Liverpool are f***ed. Torres playing with painkilling injections on a damaged groin. No Gerrard. Half the rest of the team missing. Relying on Ngog, Eccleston, Veronin etc just ain't happening.

When the scousers go out of the C-League the pressure at home will be unbearable. Top 4 finish looking in doubt this year.

Interesting results yesterday. Inter @ the top of the group. Who would have thought ? Barca held to a draw in the freezing cold.

Have to say, im really getting tired of tactics used against Barcelona by almost every team they play. Defend like crazy and hope for a lucky goal ? Come on now. That aint football. Ruben had like 9-10 players in their own half for like 90% of the game. Playing against such tactics is proving hard for Barca. It's hard to get clear shots and dribble your way around 9 muthaf***ers. But i guess that's what makes us a great team. We dominate fools to the point where they gotta hide in their defense. Can't wait for Barca to meet another attacking team, like say, Arsenal ? Then we'll see who the best is.

But gotta say though, Arsenal are playing some brilliant football as well.

The least said about LiverPool the better. Shame.

Liverpool are in ma**ive debt thanks to those nice American chaps. Liverpool need Champions League football or there is a real danger of financial collapse. The Americans have pushed their luck with the refinancing of loans so far. It won't be long before the banks will call in their money and take ownership of the club. How long will Torres stick around when he's not getting Champions League football and the club is in financial chaos?

Rafa's years of riding his luck and hoping for miracles are catching up with him. His transfer dealings have been horrific and he's leading Liverpool to the brink of disaster. Enjoy the ride!

I also think Rafa should go. Problem is, who do we get to replace him? Only person I think can get us out of the shit we're in is maybe Dalglish, but I don't think he would return to coaching. Maybe Redknapp can help. If he brings Jamie in as a**istant it would also be good.

Anyone who says Mourinho should take over from Rafa is an idiot, because he only performs at clubs that have millions of pounds to buy a league.

Those American bastards have to realise that their bickering is costing the club lots. They could have sold to the Dubai consortium, but instead they let personal beef and spitefulness get in the way of that.

I am really worried that we may go the way of Leeds or Newcastle. Maybe not this season, but in a few years, if we drop out of the top 4 or face financial collapse, it could be a reality.

Yeah, winning isn't everything. Just playing good football and being second best all the time is good enough. As long as you're fit and healthy.

Seriously, if he believes that shit, he shouldn't just be sacked, he should be committed.

Liverpool's brand is way stronger than Leeds or Newcastle. There's too big a history of success. Even if the bank did call in its loan, there would almost definitely be a buyer willing to take over the debt and get the club back to winning ways before a Leeds-style slump could happen.

The management situation is a tricky one. There are very few world-cla** managers out there who are capable of running a big club with the pressure of expectation that comes along with elite posts. Maybe Guus Hiddinck or even Fabio Capello (once he gets fired after England go out of the World Cup at the quarter-finals as usual). Dalglish might not be such a bad idea either, although he's been out of management for a long time.

Check this quote from the Liverpool forums:

Quote
I'm starting to believe i hate voronin more than i love lfc. And i really, really, i mean really love lfc. I've cried because of lfc and some of my finest memories are lfc related. But last night, me and me brother were getting ready for watching the game, and when i saw his name in starting 11 i just lost it, threw the popcorn all over the room, turned the tv off and went outside. I'm dead serious, is it normal to have those feeling towards another human being?

:) :) Funny thing is, I totally understand how this guy feels. I also went to my room and watched anime instead of watching the match when I saw our starting line-up includes Voronin and Lucas.

I only watched the first 30 Minutes of the match GOOOOOD DAMNNN IT!! RONALDINHO WAS STUNTIN ON THEM CHAPS Ferdinand and Evans LIKE THAT,Back Heels,STEP-OVERS it was my first time seeing Fergi shouting like that Evans.

Unfortunately Flashy and pretty football doesnt win matches.

First 20 minutes was scary. Milan was all over us. I think we didn't expect them to come at us like that. Ronaldinho was on FIRE. But then we started setting down. Second half was all ours. We outplayed those f***s, even MR. Back Heels was nowhere to be found all of a sudden. ;D  Rooney is a beast. He should win Player of the Year for the Season.

Overall Milan are a wack team. They don't work for each other like Man U does. I saw Ronaldinho loose the ball and few times and never gets back to try and get it. That was the difference. Quarter Finals here we come.

Oh and how lovely is it that Madrid still can't win @ Lyon ? At least ManU finally won @ the San Siro.

WACK,OVERRATTED,OVER-PAID SONS OF BITCHES.SEEDORF IS 100 TIMES BETTER THAN Ronaldinho,45 Minutes is better for him then he should be substituted.

Mourinho is indeed the SPECIAL ONE. LMAO.

"All the players needed was a bit of faith in me, and it all went well."

Mourinho also admitted to celebrating with the players after the match.

"I celebrated like I never have before - I was not the well-behaved child in this instance. In the dressing room, I was overjoyed because Inter is my side, and Chelsea is my past. It will remain in my heart, but it is in the past.

The Portuguese also clarified the situation with his Chelsea counterpart, Carlo Ancelotti.

"There has never been a problem with Ancelotti. There may have been, at times, an exchanging of words and jokes, but there will always be respect.

"If I have time, I will visit his office and wish him all the best in winning the Premier League," concluded Mourinho.

Everybody saw what happened there, so it aint no thing. If it wasn't for the Red Card, it would be Man U and Barca again at the Bernabeu. Silly mistake from Rafael. After he played do well closing Ribery down in the first half. And who said we're a One Man Team again ?????

At least we played well, unlike some people who got annihilated. LMAO !!!!!

my dude. my comment was for one1kind

however. i will say u were the better team. rooney was a gamble i didnt understand, i suppose thats why i aint a coach.

^^ Rooney was a decoy i believe.. great tactic but i think we went defensive far too early. there was more than half an hour left. we were bound to concede again with a dude like Robben on the field. unlike Ribery i think he's unf***witable!! mara Real Madrid knows how to spoil a good thing kodwa!

anyway i owe u one MrC... i owe u 3 or 4 goals actually!!

I thought that celebration was gay :)

Man United could have wrapped that game just a silly mistake from that Rafael dude.Only in Europe baby you can experience this kind of greatness whereby A right- foot player can cause so much Havoc in the Left wing and a left-footed player can cause so much havoc in the right wing. Imagine if Siphiwe Tshabalala or Chenene were told to play in the right wing im sure they would stare at the coach with a strange look of confusion ;D
