Nthabi is not one of my favourite emcees, I find her predictable and monotonous - but that said; all due respect MC Likwid Ice, I think caling her a bitch is going way too far. You being an mc yourself and being female, you should know better than to start refering to other women artists as bitches. It's sad enough that these kind of terms are used by some men on women artists to underestimate them but coming from another woman artist ,it's sad, dissapointing and definitely not a good look on you. i do not completly dislike her music, but yeah, she gets on my nerves too sometimes, i just can not stand her "il wallow in my own self pity" lyrics. music is s'posed to be a form of escapism, something u can plug your head phones to and forget your problems, not listen to another person's problems over and over and over again with every album they drop :-\
reminds me sorta about Atmosphere, that "lemons" album was sumol suicidal morbid hiphop, no hate, just gottdamn, any feel good music left out there or are we all depressed :-\

i get you. bro. the game seems to be divided that way lately, with the other side (you know who they are) having the time of their lives, and the heads morbid and mourning. funny, i think Jean Grae is dope and that schtick is part of what had me sold. a female emcee with honest self-analysis, wit and self-deprecating humour is a rare thing in rap.

I like both Nthabi and Jean Grae - neither is perfect but they definately have their moments and are occasionally awesome. Jean is frustrating. She can go from dropping one of the greatest verses of all time (Slang Blades) to rubbish like the majority of Orchestral Files. Nuh-uh.
I hate cla**ifying MCs into male and female, but for the sake of argument I'll agree that there are no major female rappers in the big leagues at the moment.
@ Oints, take another listen to Lemons. It's a f***ing incredible album.

I disagree there are some girls doing decent things, just not really getting the same support as their male counterparts, cause honestly girls are the biggest haters, they are extremely competitive and the only girls I know that check for female mc's are dykes, :P
But Psalm One is nice, (Nacrobat affiliate from Chicago, signed to Rhymesayers), and in the major game Shawnna is pretty dope and her Infamous Syndicate crew (again from Chi-Town) are pretty iLL, they put on a dope show, btw did you guys know Shawnna is the daughter of the Blues Legend Buddy Guy, thought I'd put that out there.
As for Overrated chicks, I guess your Jacki-O's, Trina's and Khia's are overrated, they find some support, but again most girls I know are either into alternative or straight listen to R&B, couple girls I know dig dancehall, but again I repeat girls are the biggest haters when it comes to the next chick gettin' hers.

Rah Digga is married to Young Zee, and as for the Foxy's, Nonchalant, and MC Lyte, with the exception of MC Lyte, none of these girls have put out anything as of late, Nonchalant was a one hit wonder, don't nobody outside of the D.C. Metro Area remember her.
I would probably have to agree on Lyte though, she is probably the greatest female to do it. Up there with Queen Latifah, L-Boogs, Ms. Melody, Isis, Bahamadia and so forth.
But right now most female rappers are M.I.A. at the moment.
It's the Beyonce's and Rihanna's racking up right now. oh yeah and M.I.A., btw whatever happened to Lady Sovereign? I meet her out partying in Atlanta one night and that was the end of it...

Lady Sov ain't my cup of tea either ;) but her first offering on Chocolate Industries managed to get her a deal with Def Jam Recordings, and not Def Jam UK (are they even still operational)? Anyway agree with all except Psalm 1, she can rhyme and her live shows are pretty good, she doesn't run out of breathe on the mic, and rarely breaths, kind of like a speed up female version of Breeze Brewin (you know how mans can go 8-12 bars without taking a breather), but yeah again, females aren't getting signed, because females aren't supporting their own. Except for a couple of girls in the south, hardly any females are getting deals.
What's up with Remy Ma? she out of Jail yet?

thats what ive liked about this thread, im pretty sure most of the people here know of this fact and yet their opinions were supported with logic and not spite...its rare that you find opinions not often steered by the need to be patriotic and in constant support for a fellow man, simply because she/he is a fellow man

True, I agree people have been giving reasonable explanations as to why they dislike a certain artist, my only thing is that females don't really get as much support as their male counterparts, hence the reason for less record sales and the end result being them falling off.
Roxanne Shante was smart about her record deal, now she is at least sitting on a p.h.d , and she was dope too!
The only place I can think of, off the bat, where I hear of females getting as much love at the guys is Australia, apparently Maya Jupiter, Trey and them sell as much as the guys do over there.

Lady Sov is supposed to come out with a new CD in May or July. I really liked her when she was still in the
UK Garage scene. The first time I heard about her was she was a guest on Richie Vibe Vee's show on BBC
1Xtra back in '04. I haven't felt her stuff since she signed to Def Jam for some reason.
and Remy is still in prison. She married Papoose in prison a few months ago.
