Hey Gents!! My partners and i are planning to start a Non-profit organisation that will start operating next year August(Approx if we get alot of cosignings from the local,Provincial government), where the general public will donate Blood and they will receive R50 incentive,and if that blood is clean after 6 months of being tested it will be distributed to Hospital and Clinics to help patients who really need it.
My question is Have you ever donated blood? and would you donate it if there was an incentive for you?

starting an NGO. I'd advice you to run in the opposite direction now :D Working for organisation where all ur running expenses depend on other people donating money and their time to u is harder than it looks, trust me, especially now with the recession and all.
But I think it is worth doing if ur commited to it, so good luck to u and ur partners.
What is wrong with the SA Blood bank that you would want to duplicate what they are doing? (out of interest)

unless if some filthy rich gazillionaire left his estate to new jack and his partners or maybe they are being funded by a the mob, there is nothing in the NGO world like "funding is straight". You have to constantly apply for funding, so u need people who's job it is to write fundraising proposal etc etc
I am not sure how new jack's business plan looks though, he did say that he was rich at some point, so perhaps he can afford to be a philanthropist... :-\

Yes The funding is straight!!! I cant disclose the donor as we have signed a NCND. As i said we only need signatures from High places. This concept will work since it has already been succesful in other countries of which the objective is to save lives.
We will also get another source of funding from the income we charge Hospitals,clinics,Health Departments for the blood we supply!!!!

I think it is a cool idea. I donate blood regularly, but I know a lot of people who would probably also do so if they were getting paid.
Last year a bunch of my friends who never donate blood went to Pharmovs on the UFS campus, because they were paying R150 for blood to be used in trials. There were queues of people. This means the problem isn't that people are scared of the needle or shit, but just need some motivation.
I think this has been successful in Scandinavia and in other countries, where people are paid for blood. Its a good incentive.

personally, i think it makes more sense to donate blood for money. when you ask people to donate to save lives you are asking them to imagine saving someone's life with no real experience of that happening. with money, it's something tangible. overall, the same thing is accomplished.

Cosign. This might even encourage people to be safer when engaging in sex and shit, cos they will see it as a way of earning an income and f***ing around would be f***ing with your money.
There would have to be a much higher incentive for this to be the case though. something like R150 after 6 safe donations or something.

No, I will never donate blood. I wasn't joking when I said I'm allergic to needles. When I went to the hospital for the second time (when I was born was the 1st), they stuck a needle in my vein, and blood came squirting out, I'm not kidding. Then I was on I.V. and my vein collapsed. Really. So no, I will never donate blood, and I hope you can see why.
