Title: Elite Lyricists in S.A
Post by: SIN on May 17, 2007, 01:46:58 PM
Here is an idea. Since cats is always claimin that they or their peoples are the dopest rappers around( I'm guilty of that and I mean it), I thought why not we upload 5 tracks of a dude we deem to be the illest and vote on em. The rapper that wins most categories will be crowned AG King/ Queen, and this debate can finall rest. Ma proposed categories are
1. Streets
2. Witty
3. Emotional/Real Life
4. Political/Conscious
5.Narrative/Situational
In all these categories the contestants would be judged on swagger, flow, delivery, conviction, content and most importantly LYRICISM.
Ma proposed rappers are Cone, Snazz, Tumi, Captain and Prokid.
Suggestion to make it credible are welcomed. All tracks should be up by next week Friday. I already have five of Cone's tracks.

Wut a deal? Cats don't feel they or their favourite emcees can compete. Don't put up name of tracks. Submitt tracks for each category, so that we can listen and judge. I'll understand if cats don't wanna play, cause we don't play fair! ha ha

f*** being famous and shit..I mean I know cats in my area that will murder the likes of Flabba or Nemza and whoever else is big in S.A. I think the kat must be first of all must be lyrically inclined(no monotonous crap), Must have a skill of sparking controversy at any give moment in the game. And ofcourse must have the stature of an ill MC, I mean you must just get a glimpse of da kat and be intimidated....And frankly I dont see not one kat in the SA game that has that...Well Im not an SA underground expert but if theres a kat in da SA underground regime that has the lyrical capabilty to take on any kat from the USA underground or commercial, he should step up to the podium...Hate it or love, the US scene will always shape Mzansi hip hop one way or another

i'm going with KONFAB and Ben Sharpa (aka Kaptin).

(no suprise there).

"Ben Sharpa and KONFAB, two of the most inspired and agile lyricists in the world today..."

- Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 1).

It can be commercial cats as well, though I don't know any cats locally that would qualify to be considered commercial, check the sales to see wut I mean. Dplanet has proposed Konfab and Captain, Zee has proposed Maggz. I got five of Cone's tracks for each category, if anyone else has tracks of dudes they feelin, then they should upload em by next week Friday. This is meant for AG peeps, not the 'ma**es'. I think the excercise will be a valuable one.

I would have tossed Sfiso Sudan right in there, esp. in terms of politically inclined content- but where he at? Ngwenya too.

But now I must say I am an El Nino and Dla (Qha!)- [driemanskap] groupie. romance, politics n strait tell ya bizzness, whateva- them boys got it on lok!

what up AG

Can we please stick to the script. Nominate peeps that can compete in all the said categories, and then upload the tracks for each category. We meant to listen to everybody and vote on em. Our subjective opinions don't matter. I'll upload Cone's five tracks soon.

Just to conform to the set criteria, here is my list

Witty
Konfab...tshwara ose ke walebala skaftini and all that ish he says in the background, probably the most well rounded MC in SA, fits all categories

Street

Don't know how to answer this one
But I'll go For Kaptain, Hegemony is a street track, Cops hara**ing, rhymes about everything from politics and social ish, that is what the streets need to here,at least that's what i think

Most slwpt on MC has to be Vernon Viscus Though, Cat IS MADD Sick, "reverse time, i done that in slow mo digital with audi visuall, remote school of thought, where crews are bought over bars like quarts on the house. Total Sickness

trutth be told! there isnt a single cat in SA who qualifies for this ELITE title!

stop lyin niggas!

nobody in SA even has a hit!
how can u be an elite rapper without a single hit! no plats! no money! no solid TRACK RECORD! cmon!

at least im honest enough to say! i got goals. n i set them high!
dont put on that list until im pushin elite whips! rollin wit elite chicks! wit elite units sold! elite platinum cards! elite cribs! elite POWER!

then put me on the list!
give me two yrs!
holler!!!!!!!!

THIS SHIT REALLY GOTTA STOP! :D THE LIES! :D
Title:
Post by: Dpleezy on June 01, 2007, 03:11:02 PM
this thread is called elite lyricists, not elite businessmen.

instead of looking at whips, bitches & jewels,,, look instead at originality, lyrical content, relevance of message, delivery etc - that is a better way to judge.

many truly great artists only get recognised after their death (van gogh for example) so talking about wealth has no bearing on skills.
Title:
Post by: cash on June 01, 2007, 03:35:19 PM
then ur sayin these dudes lyrical ability has no effect on their regular lives?
they spit fire but outside of the booth they lukewarm!
they fierce on the mic, but in the real world they timid!
thay talk BIG on the tracks, but think small in the economic battlefield!
they ballers n pimps on records, but in reality, they scared of honeys!
theyre conquerors on wax n in cyphers, but outside of their lyrical prowess, they jus not GO GETTERS!
they can provide for the heads, but cant provide for their family's and generations to come!
they will be recognised when their dead, so theyve accepted defeat while they walk n breathe on earth!?

okay!
 :?
now i understand!

then DO NOT EVER put me on this list!
 :D
keep the props! im cool!
this seems like when the dude in the matrix snitches and goes undercover for the machines n he says..........ignorance is bliss........

so we are giving praise to all the cats who aint REAL! they jus SPIT NICE! but aint livin it on the daily! OK 8O
