I'm sure you don't feel Isaac thats probably because you have no idea What real is. I'm not going to explain it to you its just sorry to see and read and hear our own people not wnating to be from SA, you are infact the one perpetuating the spirit of apartheid because of you it is alive, because it shows to me(I don't know about the other people) that you are ashamed of who you are and wher you are from. I am not looking for an answer from you, but hopefully you are man enough to see that. I am also not looking for trouble here or attack from you guys. Just honesty, be honest with yourself, WHY OH WHY are we acting like we are americans, we should be setting standards not following.

Let me where I can get hold of music Cash  so I can hear what you are for myself.

i think u shouldnt confuse AMERICAN culture with HIP HOP culture. Of course hip hop got to the rest of the world (mainly) through US influences so I guess the culture of the place of origin was kinda a**imilated into the lives of hip hop fans worldwide...its just like reggae or rasta culture any reggae fan knows what IRIE means, its Jamaican culture but its also become reggae culture...so wen a rasta goes ''IRIE'' u cant slam em for that on some ''hey, why dont u say SHARP and HOLA 7 u not proudly south african!'' thats their  way of identitifyin themselves, hip hop has always been characterized by baggy clothes, and other forms of US streetculture which infiltated into hip hop fans own cultures. (especially considering the fact that b4 the 90s the only hip hop we had access to was american) i dont think SA has its own hip hop image yet cuz its still young n we still playin follow the leader lol.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this is a stupid reply? I dare you to say that statement out loud...it is of no relevance at all. you could have said uhhm let me think, that if a person wears baggy clothing does it mean you are or want to be hiphop...that would've flown but not that statement about geerman cars...DUMBO!!!

thanx to thornz though, you made a valid point or a few points. I still don't agree with you though. But I suppose I should leave this cause I must've angered a few people now that they have realised what they are. Anyways, if you can sleep at night then thats cool.

My question to you "5tHRSMN", why did you write the thread in pure imperial English. Where's the S.A flavour in YOU. I don't see it. I see another person who has the taste of consciousness, but who don't know the whole face. Hip Hop is Americanized man, it is in it self a manifestation of Americanization. However, it's a culture on it own. And culture does not (not necessarily) have colour, border, or whatever. E.g Rastafarians are all over the world, but you never had anyone saying Lucky Dube or any other rasta was copycat. Rastas use Jamaican Slang, Jamaicans adopted Ethopian tradition, Ooh f***, and the first Hip Hop beat was born from the Hands of a Jamaican. Hahaha. So now who's the copycat if Jamaicans are living on Ethopian tradition, and if Hip Hop was fathered by Jamiacan hands. Man, slang is not an issue, only if we still know where we from (meaning our own lingo's-like your sig- and traditions) and where we going we cool

NOPE..same goes for hip hop there a bunch of dillusional people who fail to realize what Hip Hop is and what the Hip Hop culture is like trying South Africanise none South African shit..that why I don't listen to half of local Hip Hop coz its sounds like a bunch of confused artist.

Kanti what is wrong wif colored culture? What happening to South Africans? Are we really failing to think independently, with our perspective not influenced by Soicety At Large.

Like BIG said:

"...Considered a fool cos I dropped out off high school
Stereotypes of a black man misunderstood but it's still all good"

And @Brick, S.A hip hop is Hip Hop dawg. Vernec is hip hip. And according to what I've seen and know, it does'nt have to be American or in English. English/America is not Hip Hop and Hip Hop is not America/English. Its hip hop. No beef, I know you got your own understanding but saying only American hip hop is the only real hip hop is foul, to some extent naive (no disrespect). For instance, a french speaking group once sold half a million album copies. So saying hip hip is English or American is foul.

Look...I have my own understanding coz when I started listening to this shit it is what I called it...Hip Hop when asked to explain it i'd say "well it music made in the US Ghetto's by US Ghetto dwellers documenting life in the US Ghettos."..i'd be asked what I like about it..I'd say "well the drums...got this boom bap pattern that makes my head nod and also most I can relate to lives they live..they smoke what I smoke drink what I drink but essentially its they music....I appreciate it the same way you'd appreciate sould music  U dig"...in 96 we were called amapunk or abom rapper or amafakeAmerican because true as shit it was American music we just happened to like it. When we cyphered we cyphered like American rappers even though we localized it instead of the Bronx it was the J or J-Section but what it was was emulating. if you bump the motherload(First Dopest 'SA' Hip Hop) the beats the style of rap etc was a carbon copy of Hip Hop of that era...know what fine i'll let it slide

but I still maintain that Hip Hop is the Bronx Music the same way Kwaito is the J music...tell me I see it wrong I won't argue.

Yeah I get where you coming from, okay am not a big fan Afrikaans  either, but you must be able to differentiate the Afrikaans that is spoken in Cape Flats and the Boere Afrikaans. It ain't exactly the same. The Cape Flats lingo is street. Dis Kapse mense se taal. Dai ma se kind shit. You never had a boere saying that: "Ma se kind" (M'taka ma  in Zulu, which is also used both as slang for girlfriend and original lingo for brother or sister, which in Cape Flats lingo means brother) Yet it is Afrikaans, but it the people's Afrikaans. Like J would say. Real recognize real.
