Description

ZIMROCKS 2010 will be an International reggae, hip-hop, rock and international music concert to benefit the people of Zimbabwe. The concert is designed to raise money and awareness for those hit by worsening political and economic conditions in the southern African country of Zimbabwe. ZIMROCKS 2010 will be an International music concert to commemorate Bob Marley's 1980 performance at Rufaro stadium in Zimbabwe; its aim is to support community development projects and humanitarian aid for the people of Zimbabwe. The tentative date for the concert is April 19, to commemorate Bob Marley's April 19, performance at the Inauguration of Zimbabwe's independence. The concert, as part of Zimbabwe Independence day festivities, will contribute greatly to the economic benefit of the Zimbabwean economy overall. A percentage of the proceeds will go to benefit local communities and humanitarian aid projects. We educate by organizing and hosting events that focus on raising awareness and finding solutions for the social ills that plague so many of the world's peoples. We entertain by utilizing the same platform of social service to unite artists, audiences and our partners around a worthy cause. We create economic growth by the synthesis of education and entertainment, to create a highly effective platform to bring social responsibility and sound business practices to the people of the developing world.

Hold on.

So these are some major cats in hip-hop. Big names. On average, let's argue that the performance fee for each will be $10,000. That's average, so Kanye will charge far more, but you get the picture.

That's just performance fees. Let's add another $10,000 per act (average) for airfare, hotel, riders and entourage.

Now let's talk logistics. Let's say you need $20,000 (and this is US$ not Zim$) to hire a venue, arrange security, secure bar staff etcetera. Fine.

We're at $560,000 ALREADY.

Now I'm prepared to admit that the acts are doing it for free. It's a charity event after all. But.

With Guru in hospital diagnosed with anoxia, and never having spoken to Premo in years?

Kelis

At the same time? Yeah, OK.

Also: it popped up at allhiphop.com. But what about HiphopDX? SOHH? XXL Mag? Hell, Heavywords? You'd think at least one of these news portals would have picked up on this.

Also, www.zimrocks.org doesn't exist.

You make up your own mind.
