Title: Album Of The Year
Post by: rob_one on November 24, 2010, 02:22:41 PM
It's awards time on my show, 20/20. We're picking the top 10 albums of the year.

What's your favourite hip-hop album released in 2010?

great thread.

i've been waiting for this.

but i think people might be put off by having to vote for the show, instead of just casually saying what album they liked the most this year.

but i hope not.

i'll be back with mine in a few.

@Panic - I don't think so! We got hundreds of votes last year, and quite a few from AG.

I cant remember what came out this year that I felt was really good.  I thought the Slum Village album was cool. The Roots.. cant let the whole album play more than once at a time but it has some great jams.

somebody please put up a list of what came out.

Maroon 5 - Hands all over.

I was really unimpressed with this year's hip hop offerings.

I like John Legend and the Roots' Wake Up.

Second the vote for Simphiwe Dana's Kulture noir

Hip Hop
Kanye West - my beautiful dark twisted fantasy
Rick Ross - Teflon Don

The list above reminds me to get Wu Ma**acare. Links netleggers? Was it any good?

I got may singles this year but not many albums. I must get that Federation double disc too.

tough one, this. but yeah.

rap:
Earl Sweatshirt - Earl
(http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lbjazrLTPA1qc007m.png)
this sixteen year old mofo really bucked what i thought could be done in rap circa. late 2000's. one short a** album (shit is only 25 minutes) and duke is in my top ten rappers list. that easy.

other:
Toro Y Moi - Causers of This
(http://www.popmatters.com/images/blog_art/t/toro-causers.jpg)
genius. innovative. what they call "ground-breaking". best production i've heard in a while (if not ever). so good i almost dropped my beer in disbelief.

NO NOTTZ, MUGGS & BAMBU, R.E.K.SBOOG BROWN, NAS & DAMIAN, JOHN REGAN, THE LEFT, :'(

i think we also need to have a section carved out for COMPILATION albums as presented by PRODUCERS cos such albums from seasoned producers such as STATIK SELEKTAH, J RONIN and more saved the hiphop this year...

im tempted to say the NOTTZ but i wont, il stick to my GUNS and say MUGGS & BAMBU....MUGGS' beatwork is a BLUE PRINT for most of the albums in my list & he proved once again that being a PRODUCER but a DJ first and having an acute understaniding for both will gurantee you TRUMP many a producer anyDAY...! ...!

DISTANT RELATIVES........ A very solid, tightly produced album. Nas' recent works been DRAGGED down by swak beats. Thankfully, that's not a concern here.

Cosign the Nottz album. Knocks!

Some joints that come to mind: Alchemist and Oh No (Gangrene) - Gutter Water
Kanye West - Dark Fantasy
Lupe Fiasco - Enemy of the state Mixtape
J Cole - Friday Night Lights Mixtape

Did the NaS and Jr Gong album come out this year?

Thank you for all the input guys!

THE 20/20 HIP-HOP AWARDS 2010

You voted, we counted - and wow, did you guys throw up some surprises. This Top 10 is unlike any other we've had before. Never before have we had an act claim two spots on the roster. Never before have we had the same act do it in the top three. And never have the heavy hitters been beaten at the last minute by a complete surprise entry.

Put it this way: the guy who got to number one is going to knock your socks off.

Thanks to Rayne for the voiceovers. Thank you for voting. Thank you for listening. We're back in 2011. And by the way, to say thank you in an extra-special way, one of you walked away with some swanky vinyl and CDs. Who was it? Better listen to find out if it was you!

Glad you enjoyed it. Keep listening! And usually, it's only twenty minutes long - so no need to take too much time out.

It's sort of a hybrid of SA, UK and US accents - family comes from all over. I'm 100% J-Sec though!  ;)
