Title: Best consciousness track you ever heard
Post by: Aphro on October 08, 2004, 07:50:00 PM
We all heard quite a few tracks that touched oyur soul which one did it for you?????

"The Birth"

[RZA]
They say wisdom, is the wise words spoken
By a brother attemptin´ to open
The graves, of these mentally dead slaves
Who´ve been lost on a cross, for decades
And centuries, lookin´ for the liberty
But receive nothin´, but misery
And hard times, and things of that nature
By the devil in a genocide caper
Little Boy Peep, has lost his sheep
But I found ´em, in a deep long sleep
Nine thousand miles away from home
Livin´ the life of a modern-day Flintstone
We the people, supposed to be equal
But the men who wrote that, they was evil
Slave owners, who did not include us
They just used us, and abused us
First they trick you, then mentally kill you
And use technologies, to rebuild you
This whole plan was a perfect scam
See that´s why they called it, the Six Million Dollar Man
Six is the limitation of the Devil
In the Million square miles of land that he settles
Put you in a three piece suit, give you loot
Chemicals in your head to make you look cute
They use you as a fool to deceive your own people
And fillin´ my children head with pins and needles
But I´ll take out the pins you inserted
And I´ll avenge all my mothers that you murdered
And brutalized, by this modern form of slavery
To speak the truth it takes bravery
And no man could stop my flow
Because I know what I speak and I speak what I know

[Hook: RZA]
What, becomes of a broken family?
Dreams are crushed and there´s no more family

[Pharoahe Monch]
Yo
Truth had me up against the ropes and semi-concious without no boxing skills
Fear of it makes hair on my neck grow like minoxodil
Watchin the clock is ill when, faced wit the truth
Parallels observing, amateur video tapes of
Twenty-one top notch NYPD cops get ill
Fill they minds not to kill still son, never revealed
True feelings, we speakin on the truth right now in itself is healing
See The Creator, created existence and balance
At right angles, unless it was conceived and stated
So whoever shall stray away from right lives wrong
The deliverance of the word false opposite of truth off course
Sure as my slave name sending
Troy Donald Jamerson paves the path, enabling truth
To stay stable and cling to EARTH!
Sorta similar to the way static electricity sting see
Truth brings light, light refracts off the mirror
Visions of yourself and error could never clearer
The truth is that you ugly, not on the outside
But in the inside on the outside you frontin you lovely
The discovery of these things and all are well-hidden
But when you in denial of self it is forbidden, that´s the truth

[Female singer]
In due time we will find

[Common] *speaking behind vocals*
See it everywhere, gotta recognize it

Let the truth be told from young souls that become old
From days spent in the jungle, where must one go
To find it, time is real, we can´t rewind it
Out of everybody I met, who told the truth?
Time did We find kids speakin cuz it´s naturally in us
But the false prophets by tellin us we born sinners
Venders of hate, got me battlin my own mind state
At a divine rate, I ain´t in this just to rhyme great
See the truth in the thighs of a stripper, the eyes of my nigga
If it´s only one, then why should it differ
So constantly I seek it
Wonderin why I gotta drink a six pack to speak it
Took a picture of the truth and tried to develop it
Had proof, it was only recognized by the intelligent
Took the negative and positive, cuz niggas got to live
Said I got to get more than I´m given
Cause truth´ll never be heard in religion
After searchin the world, on the inside what was hidden
It was the truth

[Female singer]
Truth, truth, truth, truth, truth truth
In due time, we will find

[Talib Kweli]
Check it, on my neck I still got marks from the nooses
The truth it produces, fear that got niggas on the run like Carl Lewis
The truth is my crew is the smoothest bits of saliva juices
Like the roots is, more organic than acoustics
Heavenly [...] set you free and kill you in the same breath
That shit you gotta get off your chest before your death, unless
The way you speak is lighter than a pamphlet
Cause the truth give the words away to the planet goddammit
I ran wit what God planted in my heart and I understand it
To be the bring the light to the dark, breathe some life in this art
This must be the truth (why?) cuz we keep marchin on (true)
The truth lay the foundation of what we rockin on (true)
You can´t see it if you blind but we will always prevail (true)
Life is like the open sea, the truth is the wind in our sail
And in the end, our names is on the lips of dying men
If ever crushed in the earth, we always rise again
When the words of lying men sound lush like the sound of a violin
The truth is there, it´s just the heart you gotta find it in

[Killah Priest´s verse on Tai Chi]

Walkin through the penile glandslike it was a unfathered man
Knowledge is the key to the mind which is a mysterious doorway
Through a long dark hallway
Use your concious as a compa** to avoid bein conquered
By nonsenseuse your subconcious as a map
Once it’s time to head back use your food for thought
And leave breadtracks
Now we can see the third eyeswift as you burn fly
You need common sense as a detour
Up ahead there lies three doors for you to see more
You might have to meditate to the soft melodies from a keyboard
Understandin is your flashlight
It reflects the windows to your past life
No psychiatrics could raid you from off the mattress
As you fall deeperand it’s hypnotized you better read my lips
Cause that’s the guideout the hallways of negative
Which is always competitive; therefore
You must never let it live

Sorry for sounding dumb, but what does consciousness mean? Is there a single definition for ‘CONSCIOUSNESS’, because to me, if you breathin’, you ought to be conscious… dat’s a law of nature, no one can refute it. It follows then, that when 50 cent mentions “ho’s and gun slinging” in his songs, he’s conscious…because those things exist. On the other hand, I might not really get it if Talib was to mention Marcus Garvey in his song, because I may not be exposed to dat. So, conscious can be confined within limits of what we as people have been exposed to…CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG!!! :-o

Quote:

Bob Marley:

The lips of the righteous teach many,
But fools die for want of wisdom.
The rich man´s wealth is in his city
Do you hear? Do you hear? Can you understand?
Destruction of the poor is poverty
Destruction of the soul is vanity
The righteous´ wealth is in his Holy Place.
Do you hear?
Those who have eyes to see will see

The rich man´s wealth is in his city.
Do you hear? Do you believe me? Do you understand?
Destruction of the poor is poverty.
Destruction of the soul is vanity.
Oh, hear me, children!

The righteous´ wealth is in his Holy Place.

This is Marley´s version of some extracts from Proverbs. What happened to really religious reggae? This is the most conscious you´re likely to get!

Are you religious, munetsi?

Cunninlynguists featuring Masta Ace - Seasons

One two
It´s Masta Ace, Cunninlyguists
We about to get into the seasons
The seasons of hip hop
How we gonna start it?

[Masta Ace]
As we spring back to the past, it was all happening fast
We glorified coke and smoking crack in a gla**
When b-boys danced to the latest jam
You could say this man was the greatest fan
When shoelaces were fat, and all the rapper´s faces were black
And light-brown, a box with the right sound was all you needed
When it blast...they must move
You just proved you´re hard like L in Krush Groove
And songs started to drop - Ain´t nobody start at the top
Before Preme learned the art of the chop
This is way before SP´s...and MPC´s
And long before CD´s and MP3´s
The game started to bloom and blossom
And masters ready for the cermony, like a groom in costume
Growth from the rain of the previous years
I took notes from what I heard through these devious ears
Yeah

[Deacon the Villian]
As Summer´s heatwaves ascended in it´s splendid manner
Green was flooding our scene, although the skin was tanner
"F*** The Police!!" jumpin over radio scanners
It was hot in the shade, wet paint all over the canvans
F*** Vanilla Ice cones, we had T, Cube´s Amerikka´s Most
And wanted that Chronic on the Left-Coast
Talent pools were full and fresh for swimming
Backstrokin´ through Dark Sides and Illmatic beginnings
Them lemonade stands would make you street platinum
It was 2 Live.. Florida crews caught heat for rappin
But free speech pollination kept bee´s colonizing in hives
And stung Delores Tucker right in her pride
The Tribes ocean splash was rising the tide
Strictly 4 My Niggaz that were ready to die in the ride
I wish the summer´s vibe could´ve lasted forever
To bad we had to have a change in that weather.. that sh*t was beautiful

[Chorus]
Seasons Change, mad things rearrange
Play me in the winter, play me in the summer, play in the autumn, any order
Seasons Change, mad things rearrange
Trees bright and green turn yellow brown, autumn caught em
See all them leaves must fall down

[Kno]
As the East vs. West winds blew, causing two
Legends to Fall like maple leaves from escalated beef
a**umed that the worst was over
Til these cats started wearing shiny costumes like the 31st of October
The weather´s colder, but the word jacket/jack it
Is what they did to people´s styles, not what they covered they backs with
Tactics of the skill impaired
No Limit to what they´ll do when the green is scarce
Some be Thanksgiving for who they know, while others get jerked for loot
Cause gettin signed ain´t a turkey shoot
No respect for the pilgrims who paved the way so you could rock that
Just pop crap and Plymouth Rock-Rap
Beyond gimmicks and fake plastic tits
Outkast and Raekwon dropped fall cla**ic discs
Born to Roll, so I´m taking you back to school days of autumn
Before the bottom dropped out in 2K

[SOS]
By the dawn of the new millennium we saw bright chains
Winter brought along platinum causing the ice age
No more Gold, no more YO! MTV RAPS
Now we got R&B cats stealing cla**ic rap tracks
In winter it´s snowed in like the temperature´s below ten
Citizens open up shows for more snowmen
Scrawny boys rock bubblegooses to pose like grown men
And you can catch freezer burn from women when they show skin
Jolly, fat, white men get paid when rap hits the shelves
And artists themselves get treated like Elves
Matter of fact, Santa´s gotten so greedy when a rapper sells
You even need clearance to sample Jingle Bells
What the hell! You need cells and 2 ways for chicks to bone ya?
And so much ice on ya body that you can get pneumonia
Even at the beaches of Daytona it´s gotten colder
But it´s about time for the cycle to start over.

:-D

Ejo Ill ntwana, a large part of Bob Marley and The Wailers´ stuff is "gospel" as one might call it. Angithi it just sounds cheesy when you say "gospel" mara da truth is dat any real Rastafarian musician will incorporate scripture into da lyrics coz dem sing about what dem live by. It´s traditional for Reggae music to have dat dimension. A lot of da shit that people call Reggae now is just dancehall kak, aka Jamaican pop. You don´t hear much real Reggae anymore.
They no more ´conscious´.
It´s fukkin sad.

Globalisation/Capitalism is a bitch.

I just thot that you gave an excellent point of view. Heads are far too often stuck in a mentality of having to have a dull beat to rhymes with long words as a "conscious" track. And you, unlike the rest, thot. You took the accepted statement and intelligently thot about it - and puestioned the status quo. that is lovely. thank u  C-ba
