Title: Conspiracy Theory
Post by: TATEguru on November 07, 2005, 06:42:34 AM
So there I was watching Crash over the weekend & Ludacris breaks into a monologue on the origins of Hip Hop.

He agrues that hip hop was crated by the FBI (?) to keep the minority black american community speaking bad english & perpetuating the ignorant stereotypical values in the community.. :?

Is it possible?..As far fetched as this Cons Theory may seem at first on based on the facts & empirical evidence (Syn to define) it certainly sees plausible..

While I dont think the FBI is totally behind the emergance of Hip Hop I do agree that it respreflects the materialistic moral decay prevalent in American society & in so doing perpetuates the vicious cycle.

What do we do to break the cycle?

Shoot G-Unit, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, etc for start! :x

This aint about that homie. Not about shooting rappers or nothing that was just me manifesting my frustration.

How do cats feel about mainstream hip hop decaying societal values? Is it merely a mirror reflection of society or is it actually perpetuating the decadant morals prevalent in today's yurban youth community in America & potentially the world? :?

REAL TALK here people..

Truthfully that whole "the FBI started hip hop to keep us speakin bad english and ghetto is one I first came across like 9 yeasr ago, but it becomes scarily possible when you look at the development of hip hop as a commercial concern.
I mean, think about it, modern commercial rap is about being a thug or being a clown and has been since it became commercially viable. The people that had complete financial control over the production and marketing of hip hop, and still do for the vast majority of the market, and even now that we have a few black folk with some clout, (LA Reid, Babbyface, Jigga, JD) they have it cos they came up ina structure controlled by the same old rich white men and now these black folk have to partner with the whiteys, to make the whiteys palatable to the growing black market and the white liberals.
The largest market for hip hop has always been the white middle cla** and remains so, and until US rap breaks the Chinese market (heh, heh, slim and none are the chances there)  this will stay the same, cos even tho theres f***loads of us black folk, more than 90% percent of us still live below the international bread-line. And as far as the peeps marketing rap where and ARE concerned, the general buying public is not looking to see black peeps as intelligent, aspirational human beings, cos then all the genocide and discrimination and colonisation start looking awfully criminal and make whitey uncomfortable. So black peepl need to be kept in the bracket where we are pack animals and light entertainment.
Think about it, any "black film" where the peepl are your avwerage middle cla**, working hard to come up, attending university, just partaking in the "AmeriKKKan Dream", is automatically relegated to dvd limbo, they get distributed nowhere, for the first time more "concious" rap is coming up and appearing in more "commercial" arenas....but think how long hip hop has been around and ONLY NOW do black peepl have enuff power to make anything resembling significant impact.
The peepl who buy rap cds WANT and NEED black peepl as dirty thugs who don't have any dreams outside of dealing drugs, playing ball and maybe becoming a preacher. It doesn't matter that Jigga or JD or Diddy or (even) 50 are astute businesspeople who recognise their market and produce what they know the market wants. The market doesn't want to see that, they want a tattooed, scarrred former drug-dealer who still has connections to the underworld who talks about killing peepl and the small meaningless material things he's got because he cant have emotions and worries other than where his next bottle of Cris is coming from.
If you're a real person who raps you ahve to rap about what you know, in other words your life and your daily goings-on and then your listener would have to face their daily goings-on and they trying to escape.
The corporates don't want peepl facing their daily shit cos then they might turn introspective and thoughtful and they might realise they DON'T actually NEED OR WANT all those things they waste their hard earned cash on. SO rap is what it is, and no amount of whining about how your "real" shit is going to change it means a DAMn thing, the person who receives what you do has to have made the decision to think way before they listen to your tracks.

Thats my word

This is my problem with people saying its just entertaionment & rapping into the machine dumbing the listeners down. Last night I read an interview with Phonte from LB where he laments about the "Its just entertainment" arguement so many rappers use to justify their nonchalant subject matter.

Lets accept some freakin responsibility for goodness sake!
This whole thing is broken coz the record buying white middle cla** populace is not as effected by & large by the music..its the inner city youth predominantly black populace that buys into the fickle images whole-heartedly & is the most negatively effected as they hold these "stars" as role models that made it out the hood...now they think the only way out the hood is by selling snow or sports/entertainment  :x

The media pushes NO positive black role models other than the ones in sports & entertainment. Can the ave joe name any black role models NOT affiliated with the abovementioned?..

The media perpetuates this ignorant sh*t propelling these bad role models to iconic status knowing that only "dumb n*ggaz" will subscribe to their way of life wholeheartedly.

It makes sense for the entertainers as they figure hey as long as I'm getting MY money its all good..

Guess what IT AINT ALL GOOD DUMMY!

P.S f*** 50Cent & The Whole G Unit thuggery, f*** YOUNG JEEZAY & The snowman bullshit & f*** ANY RAPPER PREACHING NEGATIVITY & influencing the youth then denying responsibility.
Finally f*** THE MAN FOR STANDING AROUND WATCHING THE N*GGAZ SELF DESTRUCT! :x

They only ever took an interest in it to control it. My train of thought was simmillar to Syntactics. For me all the rap stars were and still are, are puppets on a string. You sign you rights to a record major who answers to some politicised f*** and at the end of the day you don't have shit to say except what they want you to. Form there on you get to perpetuate habits that maintain ridiculous levels of poverty and crime.

Also, I thought at one stage that the govenrment (US), penetrated the Hip Hop industry with the likes of Eminem, Nas, Biggie, Tupac, basically all you big shots so that they could maipulate shit. For me when Tupac spoke about uniting gangs and forming an power within the Superpower which is the US he was rebelling that is why he got shot. Why do you think Marley was shot at some point? He was a threat. The govenrment still needs slaves to this day, so they don't allow for any major change in the existing inequalities of the system which is capitalism.

Black panthers are gone, Martin is gone, Malcom X is gone, any body who had the guts to say we need to make a change from within ourselves was destroyed. Pac died a rebel, that black panther blood was strong in his veins.

I'd say to make it commercially as a hiphop artist, basically u gotta act the part....Jewellery, Cars, beechoz and all.... U gotta be a puppet attached to strings and shyt. I remember some wise words I heard recently, "If u really love hiphop, do it on the side...make sure u got something to back on when u not dropping rhymes".

Like  Masta ace put it :

Quote
So you want to be in music business?

Listen
A life in rap's like a knife in the back
This life attracts some of the trifest cats
Niggaz getting deals with pipes and bats
If that don't work then they strike with gats
I know a few dudes got label deals
'Cause they crew pack steel like Navy S.E.A.L.S
And I ain't too smooth or too cool to mention
I done ran up in the label with cruel intentions
Listen, a label guy's like a bitch in disguise
He just trying to stay alive, see the twitch in his eyes?
A punch and a slap put his lunch in his lap

From the track The ways from his  ...A Long hot summer album.

I can't say much thanks to syn. All i want to know is how much of this is starting to spill into African artists since the ain't no FBI down here but as that helps the american world conquest. What i really want to know is how this is affecting our fellow africans and how we can curb this as it is now vissible that hiphop is becoming quite a business in our countries and catz are gettin signed and most of them seem to also start moving in that direction.

How can we prevent such atrocities to affect our people from an internal attack because they are already heavily influenced by that external american media. The truth is they can relate more to what we have to say than the americans, how do we capture them is my question.

Post by: Original Syn on November 09, 2005, 11:24:35 PM
Now Tek, the way I understand what you saying, is changing the discourse which signifies hip hop right? In order to counter-act this negative mindset?
Hey bra fully, thats the ideal that peeps who aren't satisfied with the current state of hip hop use to fuel themselves to try and effect change to their own individual viewpoint...AND THAT IS the Problem!.......EVRIBODY wants to change hip hop to the way THEY want it...you got millions if not billions of individual ideas that compete and cancel each other out, and that the way it has and always will be.....this is because each individual has their own idea about the reward they want out of this action for the work they do. So instead of a unified front for change you get a shitload of small groups aiming at various targets, so they never break the wall down they just scratch the paint at a lot of diffrent places.
A further and probably bigger problem is that the rules for the hip hop game have been set already man, its been around for years....
Its like kids playing, the kid who starts the game decides the rules, he might let some of his homeys make a rule or two, but he maintains control. You can't change his game, you either join as his homey or you go off and start your own game, and it cant be the same game cos you'll set different rules of your own and he's set the standard, so everybody will just see you as a copycat, if you bite his style...and they won't argue thats its his cos he did it first.
So Tek, you can set your own rules to you and yo boyz ideals but if you change the rules completely, its not hip hop (sure YOU and YOUR PEEPS might call it hip hop and a few folks who agree with you...BUT there WILL be a whole lot more people who think you full of shit, either cos they don't agree with your ideals OR because they just don't like you), and if its justa tweaking of existing rules you just seem like a biter or a small side-line within the original game...basically you become a franchise.
This is what hip hop is. There'll always be voices of dissent, they are required to give the scene legitimacy. You can work within the system and exist at the fringe and be very happy or you'd have to get EVRIBODY in the world to just ignore hip hop as it is, and keep doing that till it died out completely and then start over.
I'm only inclined to put forward this one viewpoint which is pessimistic for a reason, I want to make you angry, because angry people reACT.

When a situation seems futile, some people say "f*** it the, why should i do anythign if my individual action WON'T effect any significant change?" and I suppose they might have a point, BUt ME, I'm the kinda guy that says "f*** you, so I'm gonna lose anyway? Well then motherf***er lets go, I'll lose but best be damn sure that you gon get f***IN HURT cos I've got nothign else to lose."
So I fight on, and feel free to join cos misery loves company.

i think most people will agree that "sex" sounds better than "nigga"  ;)

sex shy d? sex mellow? sex melody?   :D

well, as long as u want to stay a underground hustler, seen as "hardcore" and keep a whole bunch of people out of your conversations .... then you're basically on the right path ... as there will always be a whole bunch of people reacting to this ...

here what wikipedia says:

Quote
Generally, nigger is considered a highly offensive racial epithet, especially when used by non-blacks

Quote
Within American culture, following the word nigger with a second word connotes an extremely negative conception of that second word, usually playing to racist stereotypes. Thus, to call someone "nigger rich" is to say that they unwisely spend their entire paycheck upon its receipt. To say someone is playing "nigger hockey" implies that they're cheating. To say that something is "nigger-rigged" suggests that it was hastily or carelessly improvised from any available materials. While such phrases are used to describe people of any race, they are nonetheless considered as racist as using the word nigger by itself.

however the word sound, there is only a question mark popping up above my head .... i had many black kids in my school (french school, with kids from all over africa) and i learned at school the defenition for "negro"

it's not an african or american word first of all, check wikipedia:

Quote
Despite, or expanding the controversy, "nigger" originates from the Dutch and German "neger,"

in german the definition for this is "finster, bar jeden lichtes" .... beyond any light ... total darkness ... nothing ...  its what the word symbolises, specially as a color, derived from the latin word for black ...

so ... what now?

personally i wouldn't want to call myself "total darkness" .... unless i might be a big marilyn mason fan ... and if U do, i'd be happy to make u feel better in any way i can ...

Quote
Niggas vs. Black People is the title of one of Chris Rock's most famous and most controversial comedy routines. This "bit", which appeared as track 12 on his 1997 album, Roll With the New, as well as his 1996 comedy show, Bring the Pain, is widely considered to be the breakthrough routine that established his status as a permanent comedy fixture after he left Saturday Night Live.

Essentially an eight-minute rant about behaviors that Rock sees within the black community; he describes "niggas" as a certain segment whose behavior is usually detrimental to the image of other black people. He describes the condition succinctly as being a "low-expectation-havin' muthf***a". The "Niggas", he said, glorify ignorance and sloth, and show excessive pride for any bearing of token responsibility.

The controversy caused by Rock's constant use of the word "nigga" led him to remove the piece from his act. He has not apologized for it or distanced himself in any way, though he has stopped performing it live in an attempt to avoid any further controversy. In the course of the routine, Rock's tone alternates between sarcastic glee at the idea of joining the KKK, and rage at people who refuse to educate themselves.

a shame that the good stuff is usually taken off the media quite quick, or the people just dissapear off the screen again if they dont adapt ( bill hicks is a good example ... www.billhicks.com )

but talking about media ... wikipedia has really intersting entries...

Quote
Previously used by blacks in only intra-ethnic settings, nigga as a socially acceptable term of kinship or endearment has become increasingly common among some black American youth and those who wish to emulate the media-popularized images of African-American culture.

so if u are down with real hiphop CULTURE then drop some intelligent lyrics and make the the words say something, not just sound cool!

if u just wanna rap and "make some hiphop" then ..... welcome to entertainent, _ _ _ _ _!

Sorry but had to bring this one up again, its true tho, u can't logically ignore the american decay in the last 10 years through Hip Hop!
These commercialised artists need to look back at their mess!

Nowadays when u tell cats that they feel we tryna restrict the growth of hip hop, but there's difference between positive and negetive growth.. its the positive we need to focus ourselves on cuz hip hop started out as a positive movement..
