Finally... Dude is a Madlib wet dream. Can't do the liberation as much after this dude. Not saying there's anything wrong w Madlib other than being an ant in Flying Lotus's afterbirth (forget who said the last bit).

Rest in peace to those friends, family and humans gone. I have tattoos on my heart for all of you. Aluta continua to those still looking this thing in the eye. We have become so complacent about this.

Politics / Re: Purged SACP members poised to launch splinter leftist party

debate issues that affect the poor they will make serious progress. More like the UDF did in the 80's.

i think therein lies the problem. Like what happened with COPE, new political parties are good in theory but lets face it, in a capitalist system, there will always be poor people, so every new Tom, Dick and Sizwe will claim to be for the poor but can we really expect power hungry politicians to find solutions for the poor by forming yet another party?

They should have been able able to find solutions while still part of their existing party, the fact that they have to leave means that we, as the people, need to stop looking to politics for answers.

UDF, NNP, COPE, and now this... we have all seen this before. methinks. The poor are always used as a pawn by politicians, that is just sad really

UDM?

General Discussion / Re: Bongani Fa**ie is on coke and has left Jozi?
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:46:53 PM »
Cocaine is taking over in areas that would be making Biko spin in his grave (God rest him). I can't even talk to half the cats I used to know. And not just because I'm an a**hole.  Regardless of this case being true or not, shit is getting way out of hand. Bongz needs to check who he a**ociates with, hard to say but true. People will f*** around and leave you dead on day six with their in and out bathroom parties. Hope he is aware, sure he is though. People can't see further than the omo half the time, I think I've ranted on this before. Smoke=fire? Dunno, but the white elephant here (scuse the pun) is the unhealthy fixation so many young, successful Africans develop with this crap. I hope to ufck Bongani avoids the pitfalls. It can be harmless but has left a number of naked dudes swinging from their own rafters in recent years. Duiwels! haha

Someone is definitely sneaking that shit into some meaningful cirlces. Some unscrupulous motherufckers out there.

Johannesburg!

Oh the Gil Scot Heron joint. "Tell me what's the word" love the song- Giles Peterson opened with it when he was playing at Carfax years ago.

On a side note I love that cat. Favourite writer of mine.
I remember listening to the the Watergate Blues after Bush got re-elected and the same being 100% percent on point with the present situation replace Vietnam with Iraq.

Once my crew stops drinking draughts at the Loft and get our website together (or maybe do both) my first piece is going to a primer for Gil Scot Heron going through his whole catalogue and introducing him to those who don't know him.
I've already done notes probably somewhere in my house but this is how I'm going to open the piece from memory...

"Somewhere out there he walks.
Syringe tainted with AIDS blood sticking out his skeletal arm. Or maybe they've captured him again and he is standing at dispensary slamming the gla** window crying for heroin and having to settle for methadone: The greatest poet ever..."

Something like that...

What's the word?
Tell me brother, have you heard
from Johannesburg?
What's the word?
Sister/woman have you heard
from Johannesburg?
They tell me that our brothers over there
are defyin' the Man
We don't know for sure because the news we
get is unreliable, man
Well I hate it when the blood starts flowin'
but I'm glad to see resistance growin'
Somebody tell me what's the word?
Tell me brother, have you heard
from Johannesburg?
They tell me that our brothers over there
refuse to work in the mines,
They may not get the news but they need to know
we're on their side.
Now sometimes distance brings
misunderstanding,
but deep in my heart I'm demanding;
Somebody tell me what's the word?
Sister/woman have you heard
'bout Johannesburg?
I know that their strugglin' over there
ain't gonna free me,
but we all need to be strugglin'
if we're gonna be free
Don't you wanna be free?

Like the much maligned opposition, the people who cry "racism" at every given point are usually people simply screeching from the marshes, and not involved in actually trying to fix these problems at any level.

could just as easily be applied to those who cry "non-racialism".

Exactly. This thread I am going to try to re-ignore. Mad thought provoking though.

Threadz, don't make me slap you (figuratively) for being a stupid racist like your friends on zasucks. Get a perspective and admit you thought she was a man, and that you wouldn't fight her if somebody paid you (barefisted I mean).

Let's not talk shit about concepts of beauty etc, she looks like a he-ra. Even if Julius says she is "cuddly" or whatever.

Should we then subject her to public humiliation? No.  If this is cleared up will I be happy? Yes.  As a South African? Yes. Can I honestly as a patriot etc say that I don't see at all why she would have been questioned over her sex? I could lie and get all racist/ nationalist and shit but deep down I know why people would want to know.  Does it hurt? Yes and I'm sure it hurts her even worse, and I hope she sues the shit out of someone if all is well.  The federations f***ed this one up royally, now everyone is jumping on the race card like the world doesn't LOVE black African athletes..... Double standards, you all know how us white folk like to see black people who run well.... that was by all intents, a joke.

I am not denying shitloads of white racism in SA, I work in that field every day and have seen shit that would make you want to pick up a gun. I am denying the link between that and Caster's testing though. Crying wolf ito racism makes it difficult for actual victims, and I personally want to be fully shocked when I hear someone had bananas shoved in their locker, got spat on by their supervisor or slapped and called heinous shit.

I don't want to get so used to hearing that everything is "racism" that I hear shit and just sigh, or capture it with "due respect" in some bullshit report.  In this instance, The ufcking race card has been played endlessly by a bunch of politically shallow (1st Zuma quote yeah!) geese doing f*** all to actually change the situation. Like the much maligned opposition, the people who cry "racism" at every given point are usually people simply screeching from the marshes, and not involved in actually trying to fix these problems at any level. Go do, put your hands (no kiddifiddla) on your community and make it right if it's so wrong.

@ witness I'll check for it. He can pull off his own thing nicely. Respect the dudes music.

@ zydeco I don't know, I think a lot of mainstream underground labels have started indicating an intent to play w more new styles or sounds like dubstep and drum etc. I think it was in some ways a move to link two styles that don't match all the way. Some of it worked, some didn't I just feel like if Jux wanted to bring in a new, fresh, niche sort of thing they shot astray w Dizzee. He's too established already, and isn't really the next ting anymore. Just an opinion, maybe a stupid one.
