I dont necessarily think so... I heard K'naan from a while back...and to me he sounds pretty american.. but he just has a story to tell and has taken the time to really find his niche.. worked well for him. i mean apart from his arabic spurts here and there.. he sounds like an american to me? seems to be taken seriously...

K'naan grew up in New York and later Toronto in Canada. His success is largely due to his political views which he has always hustled to represent.

K'naan became a friend and a**ociate of Canadian promoter, Sol Guy, who helped him secure a speaking engagement before the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 1999, where K'naan performed a spoken word piece criticizing the UN for its failed aid missions to Somalia. One of the audience members, Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour, was so impressed by the young MC's performance and courage that he invited him to contribute to his 2001 album Building Bridges, a project through which K'naan was able to tour the world.

Not only is K'naan's American accent authentic because he learned English in the States, he also bring many elements of his homeland Somalia into his work (both in terms of content and musical influence). This makes him unique and interesting to an international audience.

Many South African rappers offer nothing to the international music market because they regurgitate what is already out there. The whole swag thing is already being done to its maximum extent internationally. Which rapper have we got in SA who could even come close to Lil Wayne (in terms of swag) - the dude invented the expression 'Bling Bling' in his Hotboys days! We got broke-a** rappers out here claiming they flossy, iced-out and shit - we all know they don't have R350k for a diamond chain! it's just embarra**ing.

You talk too much for someone who is yet to make a hot beat. Be more agressive on the boards, not on the keyboard. I understand how you feel man, it must be frustrating that nobody wants to spit on your beats but don't be so salty. Get to work!

the point i tried making was that no rapper can say they making money off this yet... we all still do other shit to get by... the day we can rap without working is the day you call this a 'career'

as for 'hot beats' i do make them... just don't waste them on rappers like you thinking you the shit with a fake accent, sounding like an extra playing an american in a leon schuster movie...

tell you what, you release your first single when you do (with a beat produced by whoever) and i'll release mine when i do (with a beat produced by me) and i bet mine will sell and get more attention than yours...

i think Che is getting carried away here, Lez doesnt produce and he has mean people backing him on the boards and he'snice on the mic, so ur request is too general and pleae do fall back buddy, otherwise u'll get murked real quick. you must check the producer credits on Lez's project, its probably people u dream o remotely soundign like on the boards, so hold back.

i'm here!

I speak English pretty well but that's about as far as it goes. I can speak some French. I understand some Afrikaans. I understand less Xhosa - just some phrases really, but I'd be lost in a conversation. I would like to learn it, but I just can't seem to find the time (lame excuse, but there it is).

I'm not dissing anyone about their funny American accents, I'm just trying to understand the phenomenon. People must speak however they want to - I'm not trying to tell people what they should do. I'm just saying it sounds funny to me.

It's all love though,,, like i said, some of my best friends have funny American accents

i think lets rest this topic, its tired and going nowhere. concensus, speak English in whicheva way u feel comfortable with, cos in actual honesty, its not our mother tongue and only other BLACKS have the right to question how im sounding when speaking a language thats not ours, because our backgrounds are the same, as for anyone else, they must get their vernac game up and then we can start talking about how their intonations r fcked up when speaking Xhosa or any other south african black language

is JR really bad? I thought he is a pretty decent rapper. not that i understand most of what he says since we dont speak the same language but he sounds cool to me.

i also ddnt think he was bad, he's had some weak moments though, some really embarasing quotables, Lez will know most of the lines, i just laugh em off and just jump o da dance floor and do the "Gata Lena joe".

u should c me, i dont go to the club 2 front, im on the dance floor breakin ish down,  , back to the issue at hand, i unofficialy just got another call from one of the contenders, well fck it, LEZ, he says, JR should not even think of pening something going at him, cos unfortunatley he will put out, D.O.JR and i got sad a bit, cos dat would mean an end to ma "Gata lena Joe" Club Moments, eish i dont know. i mean he ddnt kill AKA's career, so what makes him think he'll murder JR's? until he releases Gata lena rmx or sumthn that sounds like Gata lena, then im siding with JR at the Clubs. "Gata lena Joe" talking about, have y'all heard the new F-eezy single, it sounds like Gata lena, m sure its gona get mad spins at the clubs, i gues ill b F-eezyin from now on
