General Discussion / RightsHolding to a Song
« on: October 07, 2009, 01:02:21 PM »
Yo kats

I'm a member of Sarral and I was filling out my work declaration form and I need word from you on a number of issues concerning the ownership of the song... Basically

How much of a song should a producer (I limit this word to the beatmaking only) own? Is it 50%? (On the premise that the beat is 50% of the work :-[ )

The songwriter?

And if seperate from the songwriter (as in the song's been ghostwritten); the perfomer?

The arranger?

Are composer and beatmaker used interchangeably just like author and lyricist?

The layman I am thought; Once the it's been decided how much the beatmaker owns we could do the following to allocate the remaining share: Divide each cat's bars by the total number of bars in the song (the lyrics of course since the beatmaker already taken his share) to determine his share...

I'd like to hear your word on this, what's the genarally accepted practice? What's the law? etc
