Drug mule dies of overdose
Posted Thu, 28 Apr 2005

A 24-year-old Mozambican woman died of a cocaine overdose after a bag containing the drug burst in her stomach on a flight from Brazil, police said on Thursday.

Superintendent Eugene Opperman said Teresa Martins lost consciousness on a flight from Sao Paulo in Brazil on Saturday morning.

On landing at Johannesburg International Airport, she was rushed to the Arwyp Clinic in Kempton Park, where she died on Tuesday.

"X-rays showed that her stomach contained several foreign objects which the South African Police Service commonly refer to as 'bullets' containing cocaine," Opperman said.

The bullets are usually condoms filled with cocaine, which are swallowed by drug smugglers.

An autopsy will be conducted on Thursday.

General Discussion / what is the Hot Box Show?
« on: April 21, 2005, 03:21:29 PM »
My mans, DJ X-O hooked me up with this mp3 mix and there is a recording of a tight south african radio show called the Hot Boxshow on it. The presenting is kind of disorganized but the best thing about it is that they talk less and play loads of underground music. Didnt get to hear all of it but I even caught some freestyles on it.
So whats the deal?

Vestax Vinyl Cutter VRX-2000

African Hiphop on vinyl!

I was at a conference a few weeks ago and they had this baby on display. Pretty simple to operate once you get a hang of it and its quick too.
The guy that was in charge of the demonstration told me that VESTAX JOHANNESBURG has one of these cutters!

So if you need some of your mastered tracks to be cut onto vinyl for promotional purposes you can just go to their offices(Vestax) and arrange something.

Nats disappear in a puff of nostalgia

MARTHINUS “Kortbroek” van Schalkwyk yesterday presided over the final dissolution of the National Party (yes, yes, Hogarth also didn’t know they were still alive).

But the fact that the party of apartheid is now being absorbed by the ANC did not stop delegates from reminiscing about the NP’s glorious past.

“[South Africa’s] blacks, and even the ANC says this, are the most developed in Africa because of the work done by the NP,” one delegate commented.

Since AG took it to the next level with attachments and sht. Its time to take advantage of that and I 'm just going to do exactly what the title says and Drop a BEAT!

This one is a Talib BLEND. A bit on the grimy side and I got a bit careless with the mixing but I hope you dig it or just  give some feedback.

Politics / Pretoria Name Change
« on: March 08, 2005, 03:00:57 PM »
South Africa is to change the name of its capital city, Pretoria, to Tshwane, as part of a move to make place names more African.

Pretoria was named after Andries Pretorius, a folk hero of the Afrikaner group, which set up apartheid.

Tshwane, which means "We are the same", is the name given to the area by early African groups.

The switch has been voted for by the local council. If approved, the city centre would still be called Pretoria.

New era

The African National Congress dominated council wants the entire metropolitan area, with some two million residents and also comprising other towns, to be given city status, with the name of Tshwane.

Under the plans, the Union Buildings which house many government offices, would fall outside the boundaries of Pretoria.

The South African Geographic Names Council is expected to approve the change when it meets in October.

The process of changing the city's name on maps would then start.

An international marketing campaign would then be started to make people aware of the new name.

"By embarking on this process and project of transformation, our country is making a clear distinction between the old and the new, the past and the present," Executive Mayor Smangaliso Mkhatshwa said during an acrimonious four-hour debate.

The opposition Democratic Alliance, which has strong support among whites, said the 1.5 billion rand ($256m) the switch would cost would be better spent on improving services.

It also argued for the continuation of the current compromise - retaining Pretoria as a city within the Tshwane metropolitan area.

DA councillor Derek Fleming said the new name had "less substantiation behind it than the mythical island of Atlantis".
