Victims and executioners are one and the same,
everything whether it exist in heart or jaw is food to be consumed,
Cannabalism and self-cannabalism

It seems that the definition of a 'real head' is who is the biggest fan, possesing a great depth of groupie knowledge and attaining a level of mimicry which crosses the line between influence and sculpture.

Lil scrappy is a fine artist of a particular league, in fact, in this league he is second only to one- the supreme champion: Endzi.

General Discussion / Hip Hop in SA = Middlecla** phenom
« on: July 19, 2006, 09:09:14 PM »
I dont think u can cla**ify hip hop by cla**, cause as an art form its all about breakdown of catorgaries rather than sticking to them. Sure most workin cla** people listen to kwaito, but i think if u look at most middlecla** people you will find that most of them dont listen to, what i would label, hip hop( most listen to mtv type pop). Truth is hip hop has gone beyond ( not completely) representation of the working cla** and is now centred on the 'craft' of the form in the same way jazz is.

See thats the thing, even though i wont agree with u on proverb, u could still distinguish between the two, an it has nothing 2 do with subject matter or commercial appeal either cause there alota emcees who spittin the same shit as rappers but they be channeling the energy while rappers will be just talkin

like when kanye talked bout the diomonds mines in sierre leone an then proceeded to have a bling video. no doubt the man produces fine beats, but at the end of the day, which is today: generation y- everything is sell an buy, so u cant take him serious as a lyricist cause he'll switch whatever subject is fashion at the time. I agree that tha whole undaground ting is stagnatin, but at the end of the day hip hops bout deconstruction, cut n paste an mutation- not photocopies.

« on: July 13, 2006, 05:16:43 PM »
Nah u cats are'nt gettin what im saying, of course i agree that u can channel spiritual sectors through any form of art, wheether the instrument be jazz or kung fu, what i mean is that each instrument channels a different archetype, and in the case of hip hop it is this particul;ar one. Im not talkin about five elements or anything like that im talkin bout what makes the difference between a rapper and an emcee, between a hip hop beat and simply a breakbeat, basically what distinguishes a head from a fan of hip hop is not their clothing or slang but the connection to this archetype. Just like devotees of certain hindu gods or african deities mimic the characters of these gods, so does what we call hip hop portray the archetype known as eshu. Basically if u were blind and went to a gathering of hip hop u could pick up on it, the same way u can pick up on 'vibes' of other archetypes like rastafari, gothica, thor etc.
