Politics / Re: Zuma Case
« on: September 11, 2008, 03:43:38 PM »
You know people NEED jobs or GIRLFRIENDS. Cause if I had either I'd be far too busy to go around marching for Zuma like really.

We're dealing with very frustrated people, people who need an outlet, a cause or means to express this frustration. Resting on laurels of "a better life for all" where some circumstances in this country now are worse than the pre '94 era. Zuma and the YL know this and play on it, he prods at his own parties lack of service delivery.

Peeps are pissed and want answers. The YL know this too, thats why Julias Malema's statement of "kill for zuma" has repercussions that are going to rock this goverment and country to its knees. We think xenophobia was bad. I dont think it's gonna be pretty.

Graphics Section / Graphics Challenge - Photoshop - 1.1 - Alienated Rapper
« on: September 05, 2008, 05:46:07 PM »
Well here it is.

The first official Graphics Challenge on AG. Now we gonna be keeping it simple to start with basic photoshop techniques. Nandonation inspired this image manipulation challenge by "bravely" posting (I suppose) a pic of himself in the graphic challenge poll post, but much respekt, you can see his re-incarnation here:

http://www.africasgateway.com/forums/index.php?topic=23949.msg166368#msg166368

Hence our concept is "Alienated Rapper" and our subject for alienation is... (drum roll) sorry to Mad Rapper...

the one only 50 cent! or fitty or whatever you like to call him.

Here's a cat who likes to beef, wether its Kanye or Jay-z in his sights...

For all out photoshop challenges we need to keep the subject matter the same. Here's the image to toy with:

and you can view the alienated version of mine for inspiration below.

We need to get all peeps who would like to take on the challenge in before Tuesday 9 September to put into a poll. No later than Tuesday dudes. I will post a new topic for entries and comments. Just reply to this topic before then if you are keen on entering. Final submissions before 11:59 pm Friday 12 September.

Key tools that would be used in this challenge are:

La**o Tool - (shortcut L) for selection regions to edit without messing up the rest

Hue and Saturation tool (Menu > Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation... (Tip before doing this, select a colour you would like to change all colours that you have selected to, run the hue/saturation command and click the tick box :colourize and it will convert what you have selected to tha colour.)

Liquify (Menu > Filter > Liquify... or ctrl+shift+x) play around with the tools in the filter, you can really do some crazy stuff) Please note if you arent on a version later than Photoshop 6, you wont have this tool.

HAVE FUN

Rules:

1. Only one entry per user.
2. Users only to use the provided image so playing fields are level.
3. You may only use Photoshop for this challenge.
4. People who want to enter, enter before Tuesday 9 Sep by replying to this thread and saying "count me in" (or any version of that)
5. Final Entries to be posted in the Topic: Graphics Challenge - Photoshop - 1.1 - Alienated Rapper - FINAL ENTRIES (still to come)
6. Have Fun

Please note this is just for fun, as I'm sure some peeps will be against defacing fitty's beautiful phisyque. Please dont rant, its all in the name of fun - (unless its Fitty himself has a go at us)

Peace dudes. Good Luck

Great.

Good responses. I'll hit you dudes with the challenge, look out for the new thread. - I think we can test the basics of graphic design first, with rasters. Photoshop and image manipulation. We can then move onto Vectors and then into the rest.

I think this would have been funny:

Before

Aliens are invading AG as we speak :)

AFTER

CD"S????????????????????????????? smh@tdmf.

CDs are SHIT, Serato is aight coz as people have said, we're f***ed for choice. Only reason.  I'll only play my own shit off Serato and other stuff you can't get on vinyl that I'm feeling and have PAID for. Admittedly, some of us have our own shit on vinyl but they can just shut up and go build other people's inferiority complexes ( ;D) not mine.

Sets off Limewire are just shabby. Damn internet professors can eat knob too learning everything in two years online and fronting like a general or something. Blurbing now I should just shut up and type when I'm sitting.

I hear you on that, but I wouldn't say we are F*ed for choice at all, I suppose maybe limited on budget ,just plain lazy or not online, unless you are talking about local hip hop, then ,maybe I'd agree.

I've been buying vinyl from ughh.com and thudrumble.com for about 4 years now and they have had whatever I needed and they are well priced. If you order a suitable amount of records you can balance out on postage costs. I usually order about a 10 at a time. I recently got DJ-Numark and Pomo's Blendcrafters, Chali 2na with DJ Format, Apathy 12" Aint nobody on the White Stripes Remix, not easy to find here, if not impossible. I've stopped buying form htfr.com because of the exchange rate, but they have at any one time, about 250 000 titles in their store.

But access to whatever you need is readily available. But its tough, Limewire or ISO hunt - FREE! Buying original records - $$$$$!

But what does it matter if a dj uses pirated tracks? there is only a small amount of djs out there so it wont hurt the artist that much... infact it actually helps the artist becoz of the promotion the dj does....

Theres truth in that, for sure - I just think that downloading the latest tracks from a peer 2 peer site and bumping them at your set the next Friday or Saturday night like you actually own them is not good DJ practice, its wack, especially on a piracy note.

On another note, I know DJ's (or so they think they are DJ's) especially on the house and electro scene, that have just discovered beatport.com and rock up with their loaded CD folder full of CD-R's and now think they're a DJ - I have an MP3 collection of epic proportions, its taken me 7 years to collect, and if I play a party and theres only CDJ's I'll burn a couple of CD's. But I also have a vinyl and CD collection, not even remotely close to the size of my MP3 collection, but I'm alot prouder of the latter than than my MP3's.

That made me wonder, does having a collection on vinyls make u a Dj, matter o fact wats makes a dj?

I've gotta leave work, but I would love to answer that - raincheck

peace
