General Discussion / HEY FANA YOU GOT KNOCKED THE f*** OUT!!!

Somebody had to say it people, nigga had me awake at four in the morning after a long night, goddamn I'm still pissed off

I also woke up very early - @ 3 am only to find that the fight was supposed to start much later than that.

2ND ROUND KNOCK OUT. i was very dissapointed. i think the referee was unfair.  He did not even coount, as soon as FANA hit the floor he stopped the fight. but I have to admit that he was never going to beat Barrera. What do u think Deacon or anyone who watched the fight.

Anyway he is now [/b]3 million Rands richer.. Not bad considering the fight lasted about 6 minutes.

Nevertheless, FANA is still SA's top boxer right now.

Hot Traxxx / zubz - performance of urlife producer = ?
« on: April 11, 2005, 01:44:18 PM »
If there is any fairness in this world Zubz would get a SAMA for Listeners Digest. And I’m not a Zubz groupie. I saw this guy perform with Bionic  about 4 years back & he was dope.

Forget performance of your life. Check out the new Zubz, Proverb & Tumi track on Proverb’s album. Its called SEX, DRUGS & ALCOHOL. Proverb (or Steak after the battle with Pro Kid)  spits about Sex, Zubz about Drugs & Tumi about Alcohol. I wonder what people think of the track.

Hot Traxxx / If Steve Biko was an eMCee......

From what I’ve heard and read the following things stand out about the man’s personality.

Good sense of humour – he reportedly loved having fun, cracking jokes & just enjoying life. He also loved women – it is said that he intended to marry Mamphele Ramphele before he died. Maphele ramphele wrote about their relationship in her biography (haven’t read the book, but my ex-girlfriend read it 3 years back)

Intellectual  - We all know that the man had great intellect. Fascinated by ideas & a serious thinker – word has it that he would stay up all night thinking & writing about a particular issue. He would instruct his wife to write down whatever he says out loud.
There would be no need for editing – so he could freestyle! Off course some of these words found their way into his famous “I write what I like” column (that’s where Kgafela oa Magagodi took the title of his CD & spoken word play, “I mike what I like”)

Very confident, self-a**ured & defiant – He left a huge impact on most people he interacted with.

He is arguably the greatest president we’ll never have. Damn.

Emcee Biko

Tumi – witty, clever use of words, socially conscious rhymes but also light-hearted

Dead Prez – they are all about revolution & challenging the existing order (or claim to be) + black consciousness

Hueman – for the madness & witty rhymes

Talib, & black thought?

mulmens, how was the event?
This wekend I got positive feedback ffrom someone who was there.

I hear that Kaptain from Groundworks was brilliant. He performed after BMP. I've also been told that Black & Dilika from the Durban crew Nymphonic Bastards of The Universe were also tight.

True?

Hot Traxxx / Ready D MIXtape
« on: March 11, 2005, 02:12:58 PM »
I bought Ready D’s CD a few weeks back .

Track selection
It’s got a mix of local & international tracks. The only thing I did not like is that it mostly had well-known local tracks – did not expose any new local tracks – AMU & Tebza(5th floor), Rau Rau – Skwatta, A dream led to this -Tumi, Stereotype type Hueman(RIP) from the Groundworks, Attention – ProVerb, Amu & selwyn, Amu – act crazy, Neon Don – track that was on the cape of Good dope album & Ancient man. I think those are the only local tracks on the CD. Forgot POC with Zola. W

Interntional artists & tracks include  - Dilated Peoples – Triple optics from their 2000 album, Shabam Saddiq, Sound Providers, Thomas and Jefferson. Forgot the others.

The mixing & scratching is not as good as I expected from Ready D – he sounds so much better live. Nonetheless it’s still worth having in my collection.

Do you know how the Album is doing like estimated sales?

Brick - I read an article in the Sunday World a few weeks back - the album had sold about 3 000 copies. Selwyn was understandably disspaointed but I'm sure the sales have picked up since then.

General Discussion / What Does A King Do
« on: March 11, 2005, 12:20:50 PM »
The advent of democratic or at least forms of electoral systems in many African countries has meant that Kings only have ceremonial duties. They don’t really rule / provide leadership to nations as in the days of Shaka, Hintsa, Moshoeshe, etc. political leaders (pr3sidents & prime ministers) have more power than him. In Swaziland it’s very different because the King can overrule judges, parliament, etc. in fact Swaziland is Africa’s only remaining monarchy. Mswati has a nice job indeed. The man is living it up while AIDS & poverty is destroying the country.

Maybe you are right Brick  that may be Mswati’s job. But you’ve got to confess that you envy the man – 11 wives & luxury cars. 2 have escaped recently. He also has a 2 mistresses – he is just not satisfied. Nice job, anyway.

In SA traditional leaders used to be very influential which explains why the apartheid government used them to promote apartheid policies like Bantustans. Those who disagreed (like Sabata Dalindyebo & Buthelezi’s brother Mceleli) were disposed of & new kings installed in their positions (e.g. Magosuthu & Matanzima).

KZN is currently having a debate on what powers the king should have. Some people argue that he should just have a ceremonial role the king should not be involved in party politics.  KZN has another king who is not scared of controversy – remember the story about marrying a minor.  We pay his big budget of about R27 million. Is this right?

Politics / south africa not african enough
« on: March 09, 2005, 03:10:08 PM »
Phil. Agree with your most of your points.

But it is too simplistic to say being eurocentric has to do with just economic growth. Think of China, currently one of the fastest growing economies in the world, but far from being Euro centric. The Chinese have their own way of doing business – foreigners have to adapt, the Chinese value their languages, culture 7 way of life. Off course like any other country it cant run away from some effects of globalization. Nonetheless, it is definitely not Eurocentric. The same can be said of Japan, India, United Arab Emirates.

Politics / south africa not african enough
« on: March 09, 2005, 02:53:43 PM »
This has little to do with not being African enough. The fact is that there is growing resentment of South Africa in many African countries. This is mostly because we have emerged as arguably the most influential country in Africa barely 10 years after freedom. The bigger &mmore complicated issue is that we are seen as the new imperialists in some parts of Africa. This comes from the fact that many SA firms (e.g. MTN, Shoprite, Vodacom, Eskom, Standard bank, etc) are moving into many African countries and doing very well.

The fact is that many Africans rightly see us as Xenophobic. We call them Amakwekwere, blame them for taking our jobs, women, etc. Of course not every South African is xenophobic but some incidents just show that xenophobia is a big problem with us. A few years back 7 Africans died when they were hurled off a moving train by South Africans who were on their way back from protesting about unemployment.

Why did many African delegates not vote for us during the 2006 & 2010 world cup bids. Many say it is a sign of the growing resentment that Africans have about us.

The Mail & guardian has recently reported that many African politicians in the African Union want to  move the NEPAD secretariat to Ethiopia.

[/quote]Anyway any of you political analysts/ conspiracy theorists know who was behind the following a**a**inations?

Josiah Tongogara
Samora Machel (Yes I think it was an a**a**ination)
Enersto "Che" Guevara
Martin Luther King
Malcolm X

Josiah Tongogara - probably someone within Zanu. People are asking questions about Mugabe's role in the killing. it's only speculation.

Samora Machel - it is widely accepted that the apartheid regime had a lot to do with the plane crash.

Che - although he was shot by Bolivian soldiers, the US ordered the killing. In fact the soldiers who killed him were trained by the US government

Waht would be rdeally interesting is to find out who really killed Chris Hani. Janus Walus pulled the trigger but who made the order?

& what about the three politician-turned businessman (Ramaphosa, Phosa & Sexwale) who were said to have hatched a plot to a**asinate President Mbeki? Seems as if it was just a conspirancy.
