Hola respekt.
I agree with you.
Until recently i had my foot firmly planted on the side of battle lines which said : "weak mc - you rap about material things."
i know that this system is one that measures success in terms of what one has and how big your bank balance is.
"hey jigga is rapper he gets dough, he has a bentley" - and thats the way young guns see it.the time frame taken into consideartion for all that success isnt seen by those without experience.they see the flash man, they diont see the struggle because succesful people dont want to talk about the way they struggled - THEY WANT PEEPS TO C THEYRE DOING WELL!
Weigh up the amount of meterial on struggle versus success & you will pick up the trend.
since we see success in its prime , we desire it - desires originate with our eyes and they take in the showy display of one's means of life.and so even tho me & u breathe revolt / consciousness - we still have a nokia 6680 , we have mags on our cars , we wear R600 shoes even though they fullfil no basic need - but because those who are seen to be successful have these things - WE BUY THEM TOO , so that people will measure our success as they normally do - with their eyes.and we live beyond our means.
it will not improve because like every other business - hiphop music is controlled by the corporate conglomerates & their market related studies of what will sell - INSTEAD OF WHAT IS VALUABLE,instead of what is pure.
reality bites man.its up to the individual to make the change.
(hey isnt that a song.)
im tired - time to go home
