I always say; it's not Hip Hop it's rather certain individuals within Hip Hop. Music (especially Hip Hop) is suppose to be a reflection of one's lifestyle. If I'm a pimp i.e I'm mostly surrounded by whores you can't expect me to call them Soul sisters.

When Dre, Snoop etc talk about whores and drugs they talking about what happens in their lives (granted, this might be fabricated). Hip Hop is just a reflection of the world, there are serial killers out there who would find relevance in Jak Progresso's claims about stalking women (check our own houdini Mathe), there are people who've taken as much drugs as Cage has and hate their fathers as much.

There are also Mceez out there who spit thought provoking stuff or soul soothing stuff, to name a few; Illogic, Akrobatik, Our own Hymphatic Thabz, Talib Kweli, Common sense, Aesop Rock and abo LP, Last Days Fam, Tumi, Zubz, Proverb, Ben sharpa etc.

Now oddly enough, mainstream media will play you a video where Nelly swipes a card through some chick's a** crack and not play you maybe Brand Nubian's time is running out or Eyedea's here for you etc. And then the same media has talk shows, articles etc about what a bad influence Hip hop is when they were actually quite comfortable not digging beneath the surface.

Just like one chooses the life he wants to live and the friends he has, one chooses the music he listens to. The burden then lies on Nelly to explian to his kids why he swiped that card on that a**, it lies on Eminem to explain under the influence and Kim (f***, the whole Marshall Mathers LP and more). It also lies on you to explain to your kids why you listen to that.

I'll play my son that thought provoking conscoius ish, then the only explaining ima have to do is breaking down the complex rhyme schemes.

That's what up

do you honeslty blame the media for saying such stories about rappers and them entertainment dues? i mean seriously, anyone defending the morality and positivity of rappers is just being ignorant and arrogant, face the facts man, rappers are f***ing the scoiety women and children up, ofcoz there are a few rappers who give back to the commnuity and who are dedicated and responsible father figures

the rap industry is filled with irresposnible and wreckless people who only make music to make money for alcohol and drugs, how many times have you heard stories about rappers getting sued for maintainance? the rap industry is f***ed up my man, these f***ers dont care about the people around them, the only thing that matters to them is sipping expensive drinks and wearing the finest clothes, how many rappers put thier kids on vidoes just for the world to see the precious gift that god has given them?

my man im a huge hip hop fan, i eve got the underground shit that you did with skam, lol but when it comes to rappers and their morality, i take the durag off my head and hide behind a pastor

Heads are repping about their kids now instead of baby moma drama, niggaz is trying to build, play for keeps instead of pimpin now and i dont mean Lil wayne or T.I youngin'

Heads have created positive songs-check ur playlist. Game is not married for example but he stays with his kid, Xzibit is always posing with jr and so is Ludacris. Upcoming heads with academic qualifications now find it more amusing doing conceptual songs with a positive message E.G Jakki-God vs Satan da album. There will always be that air head claimin he from da gutter and now he's makes pop or makes it rain, their damn lingo aint even English no more. Its all about what they stand for and if they wanna grow from boys to man.
NOT EVERYTHING YOU HEAR AND SEE IS WORTH LISTENING.

heres an example of whom you probably idolise!DMX, in and out of the joint and guess what he got Gout and a family that he's going to loose.
http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.8493/title.dmx-sentenced-to-hard-time

for your record, i dont idolize dmx, his just a rapper to me, your aurgument is laid out dog for real. takes this to the highcourt and ud get a death sentence, lets talk about the influence of hiphop to the youth, what is it that rap has done for the youth?

lets quit all these lame arguments about rap being an inspirational music, you motherf***ers are to blame for the downfall of your own music, you create all this f***ing mess and now you expect the public to say some good shit about you? the f***? get outta here man, we all know 80% of rappers are disrectfull and rude sons of hookers, the only thing rappers care about is being rich and telling other people to suck dicks and that they are pussies and just shooting  innoncent kids, plotting murders and organizing crime

You need to re-check what u been bumping kid........Mirror mirror on the wall and then dig a little bit

However, hip hop has been the hope, the parent, the teacher of delinquents, mischievous leds, thugs, hoes, and all the people who seem to be unacceptable to this world.

Hip Hop is the only genre (and Maskandi...hahaha) that speaks the truth that the  world is scared to speak, and since it's the truth it has been subjected to accusations and a**umptions.

Like Busta said Hip Hop is the only genre that pays people who don't even give a f*** about it.........media included as well....

Gotta Love Hip Hop cos, seemingly, in this shit we are in REDEMPTION

What goes in is never equal to the outcome ("I went from negative to positive" remember BIG) and the outcome is usually good

@Panic and Rob, I also believe that we a partly responsible for making this place what it is. The threads we create reflect on and make up the site as well, don't know about the content: cos, lets say if AG was to be rated against other Hip Hop site....would they also consider the stuff posted on the threads as part-and-parcel of the AG's content? Don't know if my point makes any sense...

But what I'm saying is.....AG Admin-- i.e. "Milk" ---not the mods...me thinks...is responsible for the content on the AG website

And we.....artists, fans, junos, promoters, and etc.....are responsible for making the forum side HIP HOP....real Hip Hop.......in terms of posting stuff that is relevant to Hip Hop.......And don't be lost in the mist of saying "Personal Issues ain't hip hop" cos they are...recall hip hop be the life we live...erday...hahaha

not matter how you slice it, as a source of SA hip hop:

Hype > AG (in its present state)

Strongly disagree.
Content generated by heads on AG in terms of unheard artists and gigs doesn't compare to HYPE.
We may not get the full written articles or reviews but there is news here. A lot of bullshyt that we can't edit like a mag does but it can be if this website was run properly.
Can't confidently say it for AG but Sheetstreet is better than HYPE.

nah dude. the news on this site isn't updated - making it non-news. and the forums are chocful of marginally hip hop related bullshit. and anyway, whenever anything solid is done here it gets a mention in that mag too. this joint is dead, yo.

So why are you here?
Anyway, HYPE is not AG and vice versa. HYPE provides a bimonthly snapshot of SA hip-hop, with some nice stories and more indepth features. AG is like a continually running news feed, full of rumours, gossip, hot tracks from all over the world, little nuggets of truth and seriously entertaining bullshit. It's like a slightly twisted RSS feed.

If I need a piece of info about a hip-hop artist, AG is where I come. If I need good solid reading, I get HYPE.

Couldn't have said it better

It's funny that these mafos ain't arrested yet. I really do not understand this thing of suspending people who have been accused of a crime....guilty or not guilty they must be sitting in the holding cells, and then apply for bail like all the other accused criminals.......the next thing is, they will be found guilty and get expelled as a sentence, instead of 15  to 20 yrs for rape and a**ault.........f*** the system and its bullshit.......protecting child rapists >:( >:(

Ooh, and "Did u know",,,ooh shit, just rembered the old chappies shit Hahaha

Anyways, did you know that there has been two continental drifts so far?

If yes,. which one are u talking about

44
@ the author of this thread aka Yung.......Why are you relating Zulu people to Greeks? I busy trying to get this through my thick skull.

2nd, you talk about history being twisted based on some a**umptions that u hold at the same time you a**ociate civilisation with Greek people.........which I think.....you also believe in the very twisted ish

3rd, who said that Greeks invented civilisation. Like WTF

4th, when the "Continental Drift" took place (when the globe was Pangaea), I don't believe earth has already developed the mammal organisms.  And come on, them drifts were major, and they don't seem to have occured over a single period. The cracks probably took mils and mils of years to form, e.g. check out the Map of Africa, where Malawi is located, check out the lake and the crack that evolving over there. Do you think this portion of Africa can suddenly drift in one period? No ways. It's still gonna take a shit load of years
