I've been wodering about beef and if there's really a place for it in SA rap. yeah, i feel it's not wrong for a cat to come out and question another's lyrical ability if he feels they'r not dope enough.in fact, that sort of thing keeps one on their toes and the next logical step would be to step their game up.i do however have a problem with dudes usin music to insult other cats.is it fair of a cat who doesn't really know another to go on record calling him a faggot,bitch,etc?ithat sort of thing's been happenin in my city(pretoria) where guys tryina come up record joints dissin those with a visibly stronger hustle than them.
a lot of these dudes aren't even nice lyrically and are just ga**ed by the smack and beef dvd's in their collections.the funny thing is none of them go on wax to call us wack but they speak about how bitch and gay we are and that they gon do this and that when they see us on they block.i'm a man first before anything else and my natural instinct is to defend myself against any man tryina step up.if a little nigga calls me a faggot,i don't wanna battle him,i wanna beat some respect into him.it would be cool if he accused me of not rhymin right or even being wack coz that would mean he's not convinced that i'm dope and in my book that's allowed.it would be on me to either air his a** out if he's nice or ignore him if he's garbage.most of these boys don't wanna work at their rhymes but wanna ride of any buzz that other dudes generate for themselves.no doubt,pretoria's a competitive city and there's no room for half-steppin emcees but i don't think insulting another man should be accompanied by the "it's what hip hop's about " excuse.
if people aint feelin your verses or joints, then the answer is simple;you're doin something wrong and nobody else is responsible for your not being nice.it's not like cap city rappers are eating of rap so why cats gotta sweat each otha.if i was sellin platinum records then maybe niggaz'd have a reason to get at me.but callin cats faggots?for what?
