Yo Glitz, Maggz is nice but so is everyone else on that unsigned top 5.,i think everyone on that chart can hold down the number 1 spot.it just happened to be Jits for this issue.every dope MC has a right to be recognized irrespective of where they're from, who they're cool with and whether or not they're played on radio.

Co-sign with Blaklez, Question to Mizi, when are going to see Hype every month instead of bi-monthly?  SA hhp is still growing so we need to make noise about it every month.

Media / Bunny Chow - The Film
« on: March 20, 2007, 03:22:50 PM »
Yeah, i saw the movie during the Sithengi Festival, Most SA movies that have been released are about our past, what happened during the days of apartheid and stuff and i dont have a problem with that but Bunny Chow is different. It does deal with some political stuff but in a more subtle way. that does not dominate the whole movie. The movie sound editor/engineer failed the whole crew., coz there are times when u have to listen very carefully to hear what the person is saying and what makes it worse is that there are no sub-titles, if i was struggling to hear what they were saying how much more to someone who is not even used to the accent. The sound track is tight thou, one of the songs on the soundtrack is MY MAN's track IMALI.

Politics / ZIMBABWE
« on: March 19, 2007, 10:42:08 AM »
We all feel that what is happening in Zim is bad and Mugabe and Tsangarai(sp) should work together towards a solution that is going to benefit the majority (poor ppl) of Zimbabwe. But what i find very problematic is some media reports about  what is happening in Zim. They dont bother to give a contextual background of why things are they like that kwaMzilikazi.
Its becasue of the pressure from International Monetary Fund (IMF), this is the organisation that loans money to mostly the 3 world countries and they always influence what that $ is spent on. In the early 1990s they were concerned about the governments public spending,  the latter does not gurantee that they gonna get their money back so they demanded that the governments cuts down on public spending (education, housing, health etc) and Zimbabwe like most African countries had to abide by that. people lost their jobs especially in the defence sector and Mugabe had to renumerate those ppl for being part of the liberation struggle and that is why today you had so many war veterans and the land grabbing is part of that reward.
Im not making excuses for Mugabe but that is the context that is always missing from all the media reports. Capitalism policies are responsible for what is happening kwa Mzilikazi
Mugabe has lost his mind, period!!!! he does not know how to deal with the situation in Zim.

There is no difference between BEE and Afrikaner Broederbond, the working cla** (the majority in this country ) is not going to benefit and the reason for that is that BEE in its true sense or not is based on some capitalist ideology. So ithe same isht as broederbond but different flies!!!!!!!!!

Politics / AND THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF SA IS...
« on: March 16, 2007, 03:11:58 PM »
:D  I mvery glad that there are people like you Black-Poetess in this forum, co-sign with some of the stuff u ve said. However, i think its importnat for us South Africans to look beyond the ANC, yes they are the liberation party, we have the best constitution in the world and blah blah blah. I have problems with ANC economic policies, they are in no way going to address poverty in this country but instead gonna make the gap between the working cla** and the middle cla** even wider. There is talks of foreign investment but the way we go baout it its pathetic. the government works from a premise that its too expensive to do business in SA and in order for us to have a environment where investors are going  to come to SA we must reduce the cost of doing labour, not the cost of manufacturing, marketing or advertising BUT to reduce salaries. Then tell me if its gonna be possible to get rid of the two economies that the president is always gaaning aan about.
Prof Sampie Terreblanche from Stellenbosch argues that during the CODESA talks the ANC was told " you can have Pretoria (Tshwane) but dont touch JHB". At the time he was saying this i though, here is a grumpy old white Afrikaner proffessor taking cheap shots at the government but now it has dawned to me that he was telling the truth. Why do you think that the likes of De Beers, AngloGold, the universities, the courts, the churches ect all the big business did not appear in front of the TRC and admit that that were part of gross human rights violation?
Its unfortunate that SA politics and the voting patterns are based on race and not the parties economic policies, do ppl on the ground understand ANC economic policies? NO!!! When they demonstrate against poor service delivery do they direct their anger or challenge gov policies? NO!! their anger is directed at those poor ward councillors and the local government. It gets to me when the same people would praise-sing Trevor Manuel budget speech and they cannot see that his budget is based on the same policies that are not working for them.
Call me a leftis but i think it is about time we have a working cla** party, that is going to stand for the poor people which are the majority in this country.  The ANC was started by a group of black middle cla** (lawyers, teachers, business ppl) who wanted a share in the apartheid capitalism. So, the ANC was/will never be the party for the poor.
With the BEE its just the same isht but different flies. I cant keep quiet whilst the majority, the ppl i see everyday are living under abjcet poverty.  Its gonna take a while though to get to that but i believe that it is achievable. FCUK the World Bank, the WTO (world trade organization) NEPAD, Privitasation IMF ...............................................................

It was hard to watch that movie without ga**ing at Leo's Rhodesian accent esp his mis-pronouncing the word "Shona" *cringes*

Think it was a decent script on an important subject but being more familiar with the supposed main character made me overly judgemental.

Co-sign !!!

Also the child soldiers were supposed to be from Sierra Leone right , but when they were speaking English they would have this thick West African accent but sometimes they would speak Zulu and Xhosa!!!!

Media / Interesting Read
« on: February 22, 2007, 01:55:55 PM »
In the past SA media (b4 '94) was serving the interest of the white middle cla** male ( his interest, aspirations, politics, ect) but now what you find is that its not as narrow like it was but just serves the interest of the middle cla** (all races). Just look at how they (newspapers, TV and radio stations) cover workers issues especially when workers (working cla**) are demonstrating. The TV guys would show a footage of the demonstrators trashing garbage bins/clashing with the police/toyi-toying (stomping of feet and spontaneous chanting) and they would quickly cut into a guy sitting in an office wearing a blue shirt and a tie. By so doing the demonstrators are potrayed as being unruly, uncivilized, unreasonable etc and as a viewer the only person who is going to make sense is the guy with a tie. The same with newspapers but one funny thing is that media claims to serve and give a voice to the voiceless. F@£ that isht. T

The serve the interest of the middle cla** and the big business. The way they conduct their daily business is a proof of that. Something has to happen to be deemed as news. A young girl who dies of HIV/Aids is not news unless she contracted the virus through rape otherwise its business as usual. People are living under bad conditions in shacks with no electricity, no running water, no job ect and that is not news, unless those people take it to the streets, then thats news.
Most of the reports around HIV/Aids are covered in a conflictual manner. Firstly it was the whole thing about homosexuals, then poverty causes Aids  statement by Mbeki, then Manto and TAC. This is the diesease that is killing  mostly poor people and is not being taken seriously by not just the government but also by the media. Instead of engaging the people on matters like behavioral change and so forth they write about Manto state of health as if that is going to help someone with something. Yes Manto is in poor health but why insinuate that she is HIV+. This is the kind of discrimination people face everyday, if you show any signs of weight loss or prolonged illness people say you have Aids and yet media perpetuates those stereotypes.
Journalists are suppose to be obejctive by showing all sides of the story, can u show all sides equally?NO. Journalist especially economic journalists regurgitate the same isht you see on  big business/governmet websites with no analysis and bringing a different point of view. There is one chap that they always fail to challenge and that is Trevor Manuel. They are his praise-singers. they seem to always forget that the budget speech is based on the government economic policies (GEAR) and this is the very same goverment that is not delivering.
Journalist need to be taught not just capitalism but also that there are alternatives. Instituions that offer journalism as a course should re-position themselves as African institution that expose student to African ideas/values and philosophies.

That is just my 2 cents worth to this topic

They must wake up and recognise that hip-hop is the future, i might be wrong but i dont think they have hip-hop shows ( i mean three hours dedicated to hip hop). Could you imagine what would that mean for local hiphop? Do these stations take suggestions/ show proposals from the public? If yes,how does one go about doin that?
