AG Wire / Jadakiss Bows To Pressure To Change Album Name
« on: November 19, 2008, 08:36:15 PM »
Jadakiss has been forced to change the name of his upcoming album Kiss My a** after the title received negative feedback from retailers.

The Lox star has now bowed to industry pressure and the LP will now be called The Last Kiss.

He says, "I had to change the name of my album. Kiss My a** wasn’t testing well at retail. Not even with the exclamations or none of that. So we had to switch it to The Last Kiss."
But the MC insists the title isn’t hinting at his retirement - it’s just the end of an era.

He adds, "Some people asked me is it my last album. Nah, it’s just ... the first album was Kiss The Game Goodbye ; the second one was The Kiss of Death, so this one was The Last Kiss. It’s the closing of a trilogy. It’s the last time I’m going to name one of my albums ; it’s the last time ’Kiss’ is going to be in the album titles. This is why this is The Last Kiss."

AG Wire / Eminem new album Relapse
« on: November 19, 2008, 08:34:02 PM »
The announcement was made on Eminem’s satellite radio station, Shade 45, during the on-air "release party" for his new book, The Way I Am. "There are a lot of fake album titles floating out there – a lot of bullshit titles," he said. "The real title of my album that’s coming out is ... Relapse." He also played a cut from the album, called I ’m Having a Relapse. "Guess who’s back ?" it begins, with Slim Shady’s familiar vim.
Over the last few months, the project was rumored to have been titled both King Mathers and Empack. Also at the soiree were 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, L-L Cool J and The Alchemist.
Relapse will be the rapper’s first release since 2005’s not-so-aptly named greatest hits compilation, Curtain Call. Eminem’s last original album was Encore, in 2004.

« on: November 19, 2008, 08:26:00 PM »
November 17th, 2008 | Author: ------

With the recent release of the the song "M.V.P." off Ludacris’ soon-to-be-released album Theater of the Mind, the Grammy Award-winning rapper and actor claims to be the first Southern rapper to work with DJ Premier.

Luda' opens up with “When Premier put the needle on the record I put it on blast.” He goes on to elaborate with raps, “first southern rapper on a Premo beat."

The Houston-born but New York-bred producer has worked previously with Scarface, on "Betrayal," which was featured on Gangstarr's Moment of Truth album. Premier also produced the title track off Scarface's upcoming Emeritus album. Additionally, Premier supplied the beat for fellow Texan Devin the Dude on the track "Doobie Ashtray." Premier has also worked with Cee-Lo on "Evening News," which can be found on Cee-Lo Green is the Soul Machine. Jermaine Dupri  and Premo collaborated on the track "Protectors of the 1472," from JD's Life in 1472 album. The legendary producer has also featured Bun B  of UGK and Arrested Development on his beats as well, yet the nod is significant.

The Gangstarr co-founder producer gives a unique blend of percussion and samples, to compliment Ludacris' rhymes. The song will be part of Ludacris’ album, Theatre of the Mind, that is scheduled to be released November 24.

AG Wire / Katt Williams Hospitalized, Psychiatric Evaluation Ordered
« on: November 19, 2008, 08:22:23 PM »
November 17th, 2008 | Author: Omar Burgess

In a bizarre turn of events, standup comic, actor and aspiring rapper Katt Williams  was required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation over the weekend in South Carolina. Sumter County deputies acted on a probate court order issued by either friends or close family members to take the comic in for a mental evaluation after he attempted to check in to a local motel wearing a bathrobe and a towel.

Williams stopped at Sumter's Mount Vernon Inn at about 8:30 a.m. Friday, after reportedly visiting a relative in nearby Dalzell. Motel clerk Marion Donning said she called police because she thought something was wrong with Williams. Officers initially left after determining that Williams posed no threat.

Roughly an hour later, the comedian arrived at attorney Garryl Deas' office to ask for help. Williams reportedly told Deas local police were attempting to "violate his rights."
"His demeanor was a little troubled," Deas told TheItem.com. "He just said that he doesn't trust anyone anymore [and] that everyone has turned against him. He wasn't really coherent."

After being admitted to Tuomey Regional Medical Center, it is not know if or when Williams was released. His next performance is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20 at Caesar's Palace. Neither his publicist nor staff at the hospital has released any information.
Prior to the episode in South Carolina, Williams reportedly got into a shouting match with BET executives over his duties at the network's annual Hip Hop Awards. BET spun the story by stating Williams lost a break dancing contest to the event's eventual host T-Pain. Two weeks later, Williams also missed an appearance on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

AG Wire / Lupe Fiasco says LupEND Will Be A Three-Disc Release
« on: November 05, 2008, 09:34:39 PM »
November 2nd, 2008 Author: Edwin Ortiz

To much dismay from his fans, Lupe Fiasco has stated his third and final album will indeed be LupEND. Though many supporters of the Chi-town rapper aren’t worried about the quality expected from this project, their bitterness lies in the fact that his catalog in Hip Hop will only be three albums deep. However, after an announcement during a show Halloween night, Lupe Fiasco clearly had a treat that would sweeten up his fans.

Addressing his crowd in Chicago at the Congress Theater on Friday, Lupe revealed the album will be not one, but three discs in length. “The name of the next album is LupEND. That’s Lup E.N.D. So, if my mathematics serve me correct from a fabulous Chicago public school system, it’s not one album ladies and gentlemen…it’s three.”

Though nothing was said on the possibility of LupEND being a concept album like The Cool , Lupe did give titles to the acronym E.N.D. “Let’s see, E, we’ll call that one Everywhere. N, we’ll call that one Nowhere. And the last one D, we’ll call that Down Here. So, LupEND is actually a triple CD.”

AG Wire / Guru and DJ Solar to Release Album in ‘09
« on: November 05, 2008, 09:32:09 PM »
Rap duo Guru and DJ Solar have just recently announced their plans to release a new album in 2009 entitled Guru 8.0 Lost and Found. The two Hip Hop acts are accustomed to working together to produce music, as their previous collaborations have resulted in two albums: Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures, Jazzmatazz Vol. 4, and the mixtape "The Timebomb: Back To The Future ," which received rave reviews.

Following the infamous and still talked about split of Gang Starr, which was made up of producer DJ Premier and rapper Guru, the latter artist went on to form the record label 7 Grand with his current partner in crime DJ Solar.

With the new album prepping for release, Guru is quick to a**ure fans that Guru 8.0 will not follow the same format as his Jazzmatazz series.

“This is not Hip Hop jazz, this is straight Hip Hop,” Guru explained. “So, lyrically you're going to have that straight Hip Hop element.”

Although Guru has been popular since the late ‘80's, Solar ensured that Guru's time in the game actually works as an advantage for him. He also said that Guru's ability to stay relevant to Hip Hop is “something above and beyond what men half his age are able to accomplish.”

Guru has expressed confidence in his upcoming work, boldly stating, “The concept of real Hip Hop had gotten lost. But now it is found again on this record.”

Guru 8.0 Lost and Found is slated for release in March of 2009.

AG Wire / Q-Tip Talks The Renaissance & Tribe Documentary
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:34:20 PM »
October 22nd, 2008 | Author: Edwin Ortiz

Though it’s been nearly a decade since Q-Tip’s last official studio release Amplified, the buzz off his new single “Getting’ Up” and its a**ociated album, The Renaissance has been exemplary of the type of emcee he is. Stopping by Hot 97’s Angie Martinez Show, Q-Tip discussed his new album and also a documentary currently being filmed on A Tribe Called Quest.
After co-signing the likes of Charles Hamilton and Lupe Fiasco as fresh faces that are progressing the art form of Hip Hop, Q-Tip explained the title and musical direction of his upcoming release.

“You know we always have these conversations about ‘yo this is wack, this music is wack,’ and whatever, [but] we turning the corner," explained Q-Tip. "I feel like [The Renaissance] is speaking to a resurgence of some Hip Hop music that is just good.”

Another topic that "The Abstract" spoke on was a documentary being produced by fellow New York emcee, Nas. The significance of their relationship dates back to the early 90’s and Nas’ debut album Illmatic, for which Q-Tip produced “One Love” and subsequently was featured on the track.

Obviously behind the project 100 percent, Q-Tip stated, “Nas is producing a documentary on A Tribe Called Quest that Michael Rappaport is shootin’. He approached me like, ‘I wanna shoot it.’ He’s getting into film, and he’s producing it. I saw some of the rushes [unedited footage] and it looks crazy.”

Q-Tip’s album The Renaissance hits stores Nov. 4.

AG Wire / MF DOOM Addresses Rumors Of Fake Performances
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:32:16 PM »
October 21st, 2008 | Author: Edwin Ortiz

Though heralded as one of Hip Hop’s most acclaimed artists, MF DOOM has been a mystery behind the mask. In recent times, it has gotten to the point that fans are questioning the validity of DOOM shows, unsure if the man on stage is in fact the real MF DOOM. Speaking in the recent issue of Wax Poetics magazine, DOOM confronted the question of impostor performances, vying for a new perception. Putting his explanation into context, MF DOOM recapped a show from last year.

"I did some show, wrecked it, girls climbing up onstage and shit," recounts DOOM. "That was the first time that happened--but we was rocking, right? Somebody from the label was going to be there. I was like, 'Cool, he saw the show, and it was wrecked.'" Continuing on DOOM stated, "Next couple of days, I speak to him, and he was like, 'Good show, but a lot of people are saying it wasn't you!'"

Receiving the disconcerting news, DOOM was amazed to hear his character continues to fool people. "I lost fifty-nine pounds last year on some healthy shit, and I'm out there busting my a**, and niggas is still saying that shit? Niggas is caught up in the character part."

However, instead of killing off the impostor noise, MF DOOM stressed his shows are for the music, first and foremost. "Looking at it has nothing to do with what it sounds like," says DOOM. "A blind person could be at the show and feel it clearly, but don't see nothing of it. Don't matter what the shit look like. Look, was niggas rockin' or was niggas rockin'?"

AG Wire / Dj Babu talks about duck season vol. 3
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:23:45 PM »
October 21st, 2008 | Author: Omar Burgess

In addition to his status as an International Turntablist Federation titleholder and duties as a member of Dilated Peoples, DJ Babu has been displaying his ear for beats since dropping Super Duck Breaks under the moniker "Turntablist." Those unfamiliar with Babu’s production work on his own series of Duck Season mixtapes, were likely brought up to speed last year, when one of Babu’s breaks opened the trailer for Jay-Z’s “Blue Magic” single.

“To be honest with you, that was a lot of luck,” says Babu of his addition to the American Gangster project. “I released Beat Tape Vol. 1 last year, and Rik Cordero, who directed the trailer, just happened to be listening to it on his iPod. He played it for Jay-Z [click to read], and Jay loved it.”

Collaborations are more common than ever for Babu, who is also a member of the Beat Junkies. MOP appears on "Dearly Departed" [click to listen] and Bishop Lamont is featured on "My Opinion" [click to listen]. With his upcoming album, Duck Season Volume 3, Babu says he was able to call in favors from his collaborators to accomplish two goals.

“From the jump, my point was to put the spotlight on artists and songs that I felt needed more exposure,” Babu explains. “It’s like a full evolution. Everything I’ve done solo and with my other groups has led up to this point. On this one I produced, and mixed everything.”
Part of that evolution also includes an aptly titled collaboration between MF DOOM and Sean Price [click to read] called “The Unexpected” [click to listen].

“DOOM and I did a record, but there weren’t quite enough verses for a whole song,” says Babu. “I also had a song with Sean Price, Torae [click to read] and Skyzoo [click to read] that got lost when something happened to the Duck Down hard drive. I was wondering what to do and Ruck was like, ‘f*** it. Let’s just do a new jam.’ Since they had never been on a record together, I figured it would be a dope idea. He did an excellent job of bouncing off of DOOM and changing his style.”

With work on upcoming albums from Defari, and fellow group members Evidence and Rakaa Iriscience, Babu should be busy well into 2009. It’s left him with a wealth of material, which he already has plans for.

“It was only supposed to be 74 minutes, but I ended up recording 27 different songs,” Babu says. “'Duck Season 3.5' will be a bonus that I’m giving away. It’s like six or seven more tracks that didn’t have time to get dropped, plus some remixes. I’ve already got Alchemist, Evidence, DJ Khalil and some other bonus treats.”

DJ Babu's Duck Season Volume 3 will be in stores Oct. 28 via Nature Sounds
