Peace All, Emile YX? of Heal the Hood Project, Black Noise and African Hip Hop Indaba here - emiley@mweb.co.za

For many years we have been trying to connect with as many brothers and sisters throughout South Africa to spread knowledge and information about hip hop. Next year we will again try and expand the "Heal the Hood", South African Hip Hop and Youth Network throughout South Africa. Our main reason for this is to create a network through which artists can tour, perform and sell products created by artists to make an income for the artists from varios communities nationally. Our experience has been that in order for us to survive as a Hip Hop or creative nation, we have to learn to buy from each other to empower each other. This is central to the survival of any artist or creative nation. In order for us to be a producer and not just a consumer, we have to create and SUPPORT OUR OWN. In order for us to create new jobs and export what we have to the rest of the world, we have to prove that we have a huge market that we created and are able to tap into.

We know that capitalists will hate this as it undermines their control of distribution of information and perception of what is not theirs, but from which they make most of the money. We know that we will have haters spreading crap , because they have been taught well by these devils to not support ourselves. In the same way that they force their artists on our minds daily through their corporate controlled media throughout South Africa, Africa and the World. We will have MUST FORCE "OUR OWN CREATIONS" ON THE MINDS OF THE Ma**ES. WE MUST FORCE OURSELVES TO BUY FROM THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITIES THAT PUT BACK INTO OUR COMMUNITIES. WE MUST FORCE OURSELVES TO LISTEN TO, WEAR & WATCH OUR OWN CREATIONS & REPROGRAMME OUR MINDS TO BE OPEN TO HEAR, SEE & WEAR OURSELVES.

If you want to connect with us or want to a**ist in hosting workshops at your schools, community centres, homes, yards, streets during the dates we have ... Or even want to suggest an event in your area, look at the very rough programme below and let us know OK. email me at emiley@mweb.co.za ; call me at 0823958125 or Heal teh Hood Offices at 021 7060481.

JUMP Media is proud to announce that the prominent Hip Hop sensation ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is soon to tour South Africa. One of the major success stories of the nineties, Arrested Development are a progressive rap collective fusing soul, blues, hip-hop, and Sly and the Family Stone-influenced funk with political, socially conscious lyrics. The group was founded in the late '80s by rapper Speech and DJ Headliner, who decided to make the transition to a more positive, Afro- centric viewpoint after hearing Public Enemy. Arrested Development's debut album took its title from the amount of time it took the group to secure a record contract- "Three Years, Five Months and Two Days in the Life of..." and produced the hit single "Tennessee"- a strongly spiritual track that hit the Top Ten and sparked the album to sell over four million copies. Its two follow-ups- "People Everyday" and "Mr. Wendal" did likewise. Accolades poured in- Arrested Development won Grammy's for Best Rap Album and Best New Artist, and were named Rolling Stone's Band of the Year in 1992.

The group describes their sound as "Life Music." A.D. respects women, and promotes family, spirituality and "male responsibility." They are about consciousness, the earth, African self- determination and love. They define themselves as hip-hop artists but also just artists. They are dancers, vocalists, turn- tablists, drummers, and everything in between. Arrested Development is and has always been a communal music community with any number of talented members on board, picture your family reunion but more musical. Speech may be the most known member of the group, being the front man, but Dionne Farris, Eshe (Black Life), Rasa Don (Raz), Baba Oje (the elder), Nicha and many others have contributed much to this Kaleidoscope of image and sound.

A.D. has sold over 6 million albums to date.

Right now Arrested Development is fresh outta the studio, they took their time in recording the album of their career! Speech says, “Hip-Hop is very unforgiving and the fact that we’ve done a lot doesn't matter to the average head out there, they wanna hear heat, and that’s what we yearn to give."

They are on their way to SA to blow away their legions of fans with hits like "Tennessee, "People Everyday" and "Mr. Wendal" and many more, making new fans along the way. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this impressive band perform live.

As most people know, Black Noise is one of South Africas Pioneer Hip Hop Groups. In fact, Black Noise is still going strong and are planning to celebrate their 20th Anniversary with a launch at the Baxter and then a 20 leg tour through out the Western Cape and followed by a national and international tour in 2009.

Black Noise released 9 album, where only the first one was released through a record label. That was Pumpi'Loose Da Juice in the early 90's. That was followed by Rebirth, Black Facts (released in St Louis, Missouri, USA) Questions, Hip Hop Wont Stop, Circles of Fire, Rotational High, Jam Sessions and Getcha on the Floor. Black Nosie will be releasing Volume one of a Best of Black Noise series, DVD and documentary. The groups list of achievements over the years have been legendary and they set the bar for live performances with their concept of the "All Elements hip hop show" that was followed abd copied by many others. For more information on Black Noise please watch out for the re-launch of www.blacknoise.co.za

Tickets for the 20th Anniversary to be held at the Baxter, can be purchased at Computicket from this Friday. OR cal heal the Hood Offices at 021 7060481 to ensure you booking. Also on the bill at the 20th is Hybrid Dance Crew, Immortal Styles, Abada Capoeira, Emile YX? and Heal the Hood developmental dance groups.

Alright! I wanna know from DJs and MCs what they would do battle for as far as prizes are concerned at battles. I host Our Hip Hop festival, Shut Up Just dance, African Hip Hop Indaba, Battle of the Year, Cape Flats Uprising 10 leg school/community tour and African Battle Cry.

They've mostly been B-Boy or dance events, because MCs are a complicated bunch, with very few being entertaining for the general crowd/ audience. As a part-time "events promoter" and group manager, I have wondered what DJs and MCs actually want from what they do nowadays? Is it just for the culture or "keeping it real" or to improve their skills, or love on the art or making money or being famous or getting heard or getting signed or WHAT??? Whats your reason for doing this and what would you like to see happen in the scene nowadays.

I would love to know what you want to see happen in the local scene Cape Town and Nationally ... Whats your versio of progress?
