Politics / Re: Xhosa Tribe
« on: October 17, 2008, 01:29:53 AM »
It is said that the Xhosa name was given to them by the San and means "Angry man" ... and that the early Xhosa had no clicks in their language but adopted these clicks from the San people ... It is also said that the Xhosa language is derived from the Ngoni language and are splinter tribes from tribes migrating south from northern and central Africa ... Who has info on that ... truth or not ... Mandela looks more San than Xhosa and many others too ...

Really interesting topic ... anyone with more information ...

JUMP Media is proud to announce that the prominent Hip Hop sensation ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is soon to tour South Africa. One of the major success stories of the nineties, Arrested Development are a progressive rap collective fusing soul, blues, hip-hop, and Sly and the Family Stone-influenced funk with political, socially conscious lyrics. The group was founded in the late '80s by rapper Speech and DJ Headliner, who decided to make the transition to a more positive, Afro- centric viewpoint after hearing Public Enemy. Arrested Development's debut album took its title from the amount of time it took the group to secure a record contract- "Three Years, Five Months and Two Days in the Life of..." and produced the hit single "Tennessee"- a strongly spiritual track that hit the Top Ten and sparked the album to sell over four million copies. Its two follow-ups- "People Everyday" and "Mr. Wendal" did likewise. Accolades poured in- Arrested Development won Grammy's for Best Rap Album and Best New Artist, and were named Rolling Stone's Band of the Year in 1992.

The group describes their sound as "Life Music." A.D. respects women, and promotes family, spirituality and "male responsibility." They are about consciousness, the earth, African self- determination and love. They define themselves as hip-hop artists but also just artists. They are dancers, vocalists, turn- tablists, drummers, and everything in between. Arrested Development is and has always been a communal music community with any number of talented members on board, picture your family reunion but more musical. Speech may be the most known member of the group, being the front man, but Dionne Farris, Eshe (Black Life), Rasa Don (Raz), Baba Oje (the elder), Nicha and many others have contributed much to this Kaleidoscope of image and sound.

A.D. has sold over 6 million albums to date.

Right now Arrested Development is fresh outta the studio, they took their time in recording the album of their career! Speech says, “Hip-Hop is very unforgiving and the fact that we’ve done a lot doesn't matter to the average head out there, they wanna hear heat, and that’s what we yearn to give."

They are on their way to SA to blow away their legions of fans with hits like "Tennessee, "People Everyday" and "Mr. Wendal" and many more, making new fans along the way. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this impressive band perform live.

Thanks to all that came out to support our 20th Anniversary on Thursday and Friday. Thursday saw the Hip Hop Dance batle eliminations. We discussed having the MC and DJ thing as well, but the sound as really cap in the venue and did not want to chance that. Maybe next year, with a bigger budget and more support from our local hip hop community.

Thursday had a smaller crowd with the eliminations and finals of the popping, Krump and under 13 b-boy finals:-
Winners were:-
Krump - Lil' Styler from Street Sttylers
Popping - Blake from Street Stylers
Under 13 Best B-boy - Jayson Valentine from Objects in Motion

Then on Friday we celebrated Black Noise Anniversary with performances by dance groups and capoeiristas. We feel that we should host another 20th in a club to celerbate with the MCs and DJs. We also plan to host a 20 leg Western Cape Hip Hop Community tour in Nov/ Dec 2008, as part of the African Battle Cry . Interested communities and Hip Hop Activists wanting to bring the show and workshops to their communities can contact Emile at 082 3958125 or Heal the Hood Offices at 021 7060481. or eail at emiley@mweb.co.za

Hip Hop and b-boy are group battles bra ... so they actually get less than the solo Krumpers and B-Boys.

Besides, we will have other battles later which are regional and have bigger prize money for Krumpers and poppers. I will keep you posted.
