General Discussion / Re: When Did you find out you were black????
« on: August 13, 2010, 06:05:48 PM »
Yesses, I found out I was black when I 1st went to a 'white' school in grade 3. I was a smart kid and this was considered a 'white' trait by both whites and BLACKS O_O. My principal would call me Molly to anglicise my first name because I have no English names.

I also learned that if you're considered an over-achiever, you were the 'good' black used to keep your uncivilised brethren in line. Case in point: being called out of cla** in matric to the principal's boardroom, just so they could show me off to a family of rastas as the kind of black person they want in their school *blank stare* or asking me to speak to other black girls about their 'outlandish' afro hairstyles.didn't happen.I studied the subliminal racism around me throughout school.one day I'll write a research paper on this.

Generally, its not safe for women regardless of where their from.
Just check how few guys are willing to do anything about it in a tense situation.

I'm pretty sure some niggas would walk on by if they were to witness a rape taking place,
so as to 'not get involved' or 'get hurt'.smh!

SHIT! hahaha!

Been threatened by an unknown woman who clearly knew to. She told me to watch my back, telling me i play women and all that, threatening to stab me(not sure if i imagined this after thinging about the threatening phone  too much). I was puzzled because at that time I had problem getting a girlfriend, even though i had just come out a short relationship but a player I couldnt be, not at that time.

My ex girl friend, while i was dating her, told me this. She said when she is really upset because of someone, she plans murdering them. She imagine how she would do it, plans a detailed way on how she would do it and imagines it happening then after killing that person in her imagination, she gets over being upset with them.  :o  After dumping her, and the drama that was as a result of that I was scared of her for a long time. I kid you not i did fear for my life. shes one of the ex's i keep mentioning here who is a result of some of my current debt. i estimate waisting, around R40k in that four months i dated her.

I have had really crazy girlfriends and my boy really believe I will be killed by a woman one day.

Oh wow...40k in 4months?
just wow...

I'd also like to know what the hell you bought her?

Hot Traxxx / Re: J. Cole - Who Dat
« on: July 29, 2010, 11:48:48 AM »
used to think these cats, Blu, J.Cole and them, were too soft - pandered to ladies etc. copping that whole earnest, nice guy bullshit. but after listening to a few Blu tracks and a few J. Cole joints ("Back to the Topic Freestyle") i realize it might not be entirely true. in fact, J.Cole is kind of an a**hole, ha ha.

err... BLU is more of an a**hole than J.Cole when it comes to women. I'm surprised women like him so much. but really no, I'm not surprised, women love a**holes. Is there a song where Blu says nice things about women? i think he rights about hoes and playing women only when he has a song that mentions a woman.

I get where he is coming from though.

LOL...

Its the vulnerability with which he writes his lyrics at times, especially on 'Below the Heavens' on tracks like 'Remembrance of me'.
The closest you got to him being soft on that album was on 'Blue Collar Workers' and 'No greater love'.

I actually think he TRIES to sound like an a**hole at times.
But he wouldn't have to be 'sweet' for me to appreciate his music or I wouldn't listen to anything but RnB niggas like Brian MckNight (sp).

80% on point :)

Art can influence revolution as much as it can do the opposite. The difference is that the artists themselves are generally never willing to be directly involved in any real revolutionary work. They themselves see the problem but as a typical middle(or above that) cla** are too unwilling to give up their comforts and choose to push liberal ways of being involved because real revolutionary actions mean you could lose everything, money, comfort and your life.

My closest friend once said, "Don't trust the artist, trust their album". lol.  Because these artists turn around and do the opposite.

We as fans often forget that these artists are people and people change all the time. No person stays the same till death, life experiences change us.

True.

So if the artist's role is to point out the problems and the listener merely absorbs it intellectually and is lulled into a complacent sleep...then is the purpose of art ever to incite rebellion/revolution?

people who hide their character deficiencies behind a 'conscious' facade,
they'll be the ones to say some mean-spirited, self-righteous shit to someone then end off with,'peace and blessings!'

psyfo in any way shape or form = wack

guys who pull your arm on the streets, trying to get your attention...

african american's fixation with ancient egypt/kemet...I always ask myself if they would a**ociate themselves with Africa...today. besides they were most likely taken from central/west africa so...

Sosiba your post is so spot on.

Talib is afraid of having to carry the mantle of being 'conscious' and 'socially responsible' because then he would have to be accountable to the people.

He is dodging and weaving so that people don't quite know where he stands on any issue.
When he said he could cosign Slim Thug's negative comments about black women, just because he
wrote 'Brown Skin Lady', proving he was above reproach, I realised he uses his past music and influence as a buffer for valid criticism. He is confused.

And yeah, his flow now is just...annoying.
