Hot Traxxx / Download TNG 2 Questions

The Hiphocalypse review said
Quote:

"(2 Questions)... is arguably THE best TNG track (I have heard) thusfar. "2 Questions" is an introspective gem that tackles the very pertinent issue of Xenophobia in SA. T tells a story of a real life alteraction he had with the law and a Cashless Society interview in which this ugly demon bore its head. In Verse 2 Geezay preaches a hip hop prescription for weak minded individuals about how great it is to have the same common denominator (Hip Hop) and use that to bridge the (geographic/cultural) gaps our forefathers failed. Definately prescribed for anyone with half an open mind. I´m really feeling this one. This deserves a good listen for it gives some food for thought for anyone that has had to deal with Xenophobia."

Traders / RINGTONES??
« on: June 01, 2004, 09:43:00 PM »
Just got a new phone that plays Polyphonic ringtones which makes for great personalisation so you know I gotsta share!
In the Spirit of entrepreneurship (bigup TNG & SoulFu Enterprises) we at the Hiphocalypse are looking at providing a free (well at least for the first couple of users) service for hip hop heads (like Yall).
The service will  provide free polyphonic ringtones for all who show interest.
So if you want your phone to ring HIP HOP e.g Mobb Deep - Shook Ones; Wu-Tang -Reunited; Even  Local Joints like SK, Amu, Innovators...etc
Reply to this forum detailing what you´d be interested in so we can get an idea of numbers and start organising the service provision..

Hip Hop Events / 2004 SAMA Awards
« on: April 21, 2004, 04:37:00 PM »
I noticed that there wasnt a post about the SAMA´s Best Rap awards on this site. So in the interest of generating discussion:
The Nominees for the 2004 SAMA awards
Best Rap Album:
Amu - The Life, Rap and Drama
Hip Hop Pantsula - O mang?
Mizchif - Supernatural (My Return)
Skwatta Kamp - Mkhukhu Funkshen
Tumi & The Volume - Live at the Ba**line

If I had to pick a winner I´d have to say Skwatta Kamp will probably take it but Tumi&The Volume had a much more musically mature album so they deserve to take it.
Judges you hear me? ;-) My AG ma**ive what U think?

What ommissions have there been from the list.
Who deserves to be there?

Do industry accreditations such as these still count for anything?

Every Week I go ´Diggin in the Crates´ and get pleasantly surprised.
This week I (re)discovered CunninLynguists "Southernunderground"

[Chorus]
"I´ll be doin´ alright. I´ll be doin´ ok
And as long as I can live to see another day
I´ll be doin alright. I´ll be doin ok

[SOS]
Back in the sixteenth century ... way way back in the day
Nostradamus predicted the end of the world would be on May
5th... 1999 and I don´t know how
But as I´m writing this that´s only one day from right now
What the f***! I pull up to Shell in my truck
Look up, "nah... Earth ain´t about to erupt"
Open my door, get up, slam it shut, "Marv, what up
Let me get a bag of ice and a stack of plastic cups"
For a minute we chat ´bout life and all o that
then we dap. "Check you out tomorrow night, I´ll be back"
Grab a beadie and light it, turn the key and start driving
back off into the night and then I start to get frightened
thinking "Damn! My whole life I was just a dreamer
I never got to put on a show in a packed arena
I wanted to go on Rap City and act witty
but all I ever did was put up with hoes who act shitty
What a wack pity! Was I choosin a road
that didn´t get me there in time and now we losin our globe?
Hold up I´m losin control. Think realistically on it
What could f*** up a planet in one day without warning?
And even if the world does end and I can be mad at guys
cause life coulda been much worse. At least I´m satisfied
At least my dad´s alive married to my mother
I have a sister and friends that I could call my brothers
At least I have life. Some people, their life was stolen
Set up for a crime and behind bars is where they hold em
We got kids killin kids cause Earth is cold
Women using abortions as a form of birth control
It hurts the soul and leaves a scar on your conscience
but it´s a blessing that I made it through this nonsense
So even if this will be my last night
at least when it´s over I´ll be doin alright...

[DEACON THE VILLAIN]
Back in the 16th century, way way back in the day
nostradamous predicted the world would be on may
5th, 99, tree years later and change
the World Trades frame got struck by planes
looking like God unleashed his fury and rained flames
exchanged pain for how America came to fame
cluthing my brain, my sense of security changed
usually confidence was pure in me, now fear in my veins
said "any of this shit could brang nuclear weapons
...any of this shit could end at any second"
if the Commander in Chief couldn´t insure our protection
that´s no more additions to my memory´s collection
missing me and my girls matrimonial connection
no child and videotapin´ her first steppings
or growing old and teaching grandchildren lifes lessons
but thankfully I got saved during them church sessions
so I thank God for earth´s blessings... health
not alot of wealth, but alot of peace within my self
not a whole lot of forgotten pieces upon the shelf
disclipline from loving parents, though they raised me
by the belt
when I was young, I was wild
(life) took it for granted
(nights) living outlandish
(christ) hope he could stand it
now I do right.. wherever I can manage
the devil was eating me alive but I climbed out of that sandwich
now possibly on the verge of having everything vanish
feeling as if I didn´t do anything as I planned it
like I was trying to live my life right, but somebody panned it
but I still had love, when down helping hands lifted
me up, outta the mud, outta the muck
and outta the dark and attitude when I didn´t give a f***
from them days in the park, alone, drinking gin by the cup
through an exitless maze, wandering and constantly stuck
the blessings were always there, I just chose to ignore them
shit started getting sweeter when I learned to explore them
wasn´t selfish with them, trying to stretch and contort them
and didn´t let the world get to them first and distort them
so as I.. kick back and ponder on armeggedon
and I... spit raps about where my life could´ve been headin´
I.. admit that.. I do have a wonderful life
so if this night was my last, i´ll be doin´ alright
[Chorus]"

Anyone feel me on this one?

Hip Hop Events / HIPHOCALYPSE 030404
« on: April 06, 2004, 10:10:00 AM »
Tha HIPHOCALYPSE 030404 went down as planned/announced. Here is a breakdown of what happened for those of you not within a 15km radius of Grahamstown:
The show started with Mentalyricist doing his regular thang mixing it up as he usually does. Looks like the kid is maturing nicely but we´ll get to that later.
At 1030pm Mental announced he had a surprise guest...(drum roll please)..the Sensai steps to the mic & announces his return.
Played mostly African Hip Hop including:
Obita - "Move You" (Uganda)
Konfab - "Sister Girl" (Lesotho)
Tha Hymphatic Thabs - "i was" (SA)
Skwatta Kamp - "Spark It" (SA)
Cashless Society - "Hottentot Hop Bantu 1 2" (SA/Botswana)
Innovators - "Some of you swear to be emcees" (Zambia, Zim, Grahamstown)
Villian - "For the Love...of Hip Hop" (Limpopo Province)
Zen and 2nd Son - "Zenith" (Northwest Prov,Zambia, Grahamstown)

(For copies of all the above tracks feel free to contact me on 072 520 2227 or sensaitate@yahoo.com)
Rob One called all the way from London (Whatup Rob?) and announced the Dilated Peoples special in 2weeks (stay tuned for that).
Kamma & Biz came thru with Kamma´s new turntables and mixed a Tight set with the likes of Quasimoto (Remember him).
Then the all time RMR freestyle champ Mandrax the Drug lord aka "Rising Sun/Son" (Not to be confused with 2nd Son/Sun) showed why he is still the undisputed heavyweight freestyle champ by taking TNG to the streets on some Stallone & Chuck Norris type a** whipping (Thanks for playing T, Its all love).
Finally Menatlyricist showed why he´s such a valueable a**et to the Hiphocalypse spitting some shit he wrote that night in the studio accapella with Mandrax accompanying with some shit that he wrote over the Biz mixing.
All in all felt good to be back..definately gonna do it again...the Hiphocalypse just keeps growing from strength to strength!

« on: March 31, 2004, 10:42:00 AM »
This is probably old Rhetoric but I was thinking about it again.
What artists would you love to see working together on a track or album?
The Sensai Would Love to See:

1. KRS & Chuck D on a Politikin for Will Smith´s Presidential Campaign

2. Hate to say it but NAS & JAY Z Hova´s Son LP

3. Common and Andre 3000 feat Erykah Badu (love of my life remix)

4. R.Kelly & Micheal Jackson (doing it for the Kids)

5. 2nd Son & Crisis on a "Zambian connection" or some sh^t(Nice):-]

You got any nice collabo ideas?

Hot Traxxx / COMMON - RESURRECTION
« on: March 31, 2004, 09:26:00 AM »
Just got Common´s 2nd Album "Resurrection" & that sh^t is cla**ic man. Am I the only one that thinks 1994 was possibly the 2nd BIGGEST year in hip hop. Rap needs to get back to the days of responsible artists making music that ´alters your state of being´ like this album.
Common at (arguably) his best rappin over jazzy beats before Erykah messed with his head...
This is the album with the (I don´t want to call it this coz it has negative connotations) anthem "I used to love h.e.r a timeless hip hop cla**ic by anyone´s standards.
& dont forget track 12 Chapter 13 (rich man vs Poor man).
"Okay it was a black man a white man and a Chinese man
The black man of course he was po´ (yeah)
The white man... he was rich (uh-huh)
And the Chinese man, he owned a sto´ (aight c´mon)
Okay the black man lived on Beat Street
The white man lived on Wall Street
and at the Chinese man´s store is where they all meet
Not really on the good foot
cause the white man kept steppin on the black man´s toes (damn!)
And in his shoes there were holes
But the white man didn´t care;
shit, he didn´t have to wear it (uh uh)
The scratch that he had, he got from his parents;
with his tight a**, he woulda been poor white trash, but anyway
everyday the black man would ask him to spare change
but at him, the white man would stare strange
So the black man got fed up
cause wasn´t nobody feedin him and feedin him
And took red by his neck and started beatin him and beatin him
The Chinese man got ´noid and broke out like a peon
And now the black man own the store
and the name of it is Leon´s (what´s that?)
Barbeque that is..
Rib tips, hotsauce, mild sauce, fries, and chicken

-Disect it Comm was on more high tech shit computers wanna bite!
WHAT Lloyd Banks who?...
