General Discussion / Note to Rappers
« on: March 09, 2005, 03:40:49 PM »
I was wondering why the whole Lil Kim trial thing was a big deal, finding out she supposedly lied to a grand jury about not knowing a guy who was involved in the HOt 97 shooting. But in the dumbest display of not making sure your stroy is straight, never mind she dated the dude additional evidence shows the man sitting with Lil Kim in her video ogling the rapping Queen B. 8O WTF.

Note to rappers; keep your "tsotsi friends" out the videos.

Got to give the Game album a good listen. Some strong material right there, that's a solid album no doubt. Platinum later he's fired from G Unit.
Now with fiddy saying "the 3 singles he's selling, I'm on all of them, he's album is my EP before my LP" ...what happens here now? Dre, Em, Gunit? Damn. In-house beef mayne? Is G Unit gerenaral outta hand now?
-J to the mwaa is a tight lyricist and he's called him out too.

Big ups to K, I see MTV (US)shining some light on him. Might very well be Africa's first "MTV rap star"-though seems unlikely he's the type that would be go on to do cribs.

Hmmm, I see a pattern here;

Palimpsest - Hype
K'naan- MTV

=Hyphocalypse mixtape   hmmm

Hot Traxxx / Pt 2: Big Willie vs Em
« on: February 18, 2005, 05:33:00 PM »
Smith's upcoming Lost And Found is a deliberate departure from his usually clean cut music. The album features a track entitled "Mr. Nice Guy" on which Big Willie addresses his good guy image and disses Slim in the process.

This is going to be interesting. I knew it was suspect when Big Will denounced his gangsta music but was bopin' his head whenever Fitty was performing.

Now since him and Em have spent a lot of time in the gym, and if you know Bad Boys pt1 you know Smith can swear like hell, this is going to be fun.

Best career summary;

"he became president of hip-hop’s oldest and most recognizable label just 8 years after he was trying to convince them to release his debut album.
..and he is breaking off arguably the hottest woman in the entertainment biz.
..became the first rapper to own a major professional sports team.
..his pseudo album/concert documentary became a feature film
..over 250 million dollars in his short career
..every rapper, be it backpacker/conscious/commercial/hardcore/underground/gangsta/dirty south respects this man, even the harshest hater can say, ´but there´s that one verse, or that one time he.."
-------

:-D And all this from dude who came in right from the beginning sayin´ "I thought I told you dudes I´m not a rapper"!!!!

General Discussion / Is´nt it Gay...
« on: December 22, 2004, 06:28:00 PM »
Is it not gay when rappers use the words "My man" in their lyrics at any point in a song.

My nigga or my homie is fine. But saying; "yeah me and my man"!! :-?

Is it not gay?

U know, with Cameron Diaz being 32, and Justin Timberlake being 23, there seems to be not issue about it.

In the hip hop world, if say Crazy Lu (okay bare with me) started kicking it with that colored chic from ONE, or Lebo from Boomshaka, would it be an issue?

General Discussion / Dark Man X
« on: December 21, 2004, 07:22:00 PM »
DMX was recently caught speeding without a license, despite collecting a DUI charge a few weeks ago for his incident at New York´s Kennedy airport in June.

Just this past June, X was arrested after impersonating a government official and attempting to car jack a driver in New York´s Kennedy airport. He then confessed to driving while intoxicated on valium, was fined on a misdemeanor and had his 1998 Ford Expedition confiscated -complete with sirens and flashing lights.

his 1998 Ford Expedition confiscated -complete with sirens and flashing lights.  :-] WTF is this guy on?

American Hip-Hop star 50 Cent was engaged in a scuffle with the entourage of another rapper in a Lagos, Nigeria airport last night.

Eyewitnesses stated that Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem attempted to sit in a seat reserved for the internationally known 50 Cent, but was prevented from doing so.

Abdulkareem’s entourage protested, resulting in a brawl inside the airplane.

The scuffle carried on to the tarmac of the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammad Airport, drawing the attention of employee’s and other pa**engers.

The rapper left without completing the performance due to the incident.

----------------------

Eish Beef. It´s unlikely, but would´nt be interesting to hear Eedris Abdulkareem called out in one of fiddy´s dis tracks.  :-]
Start REAL East (coast of America) vs WEST (coast of Africa) shiznit.
Man that would be beautiful. From a fan of Beef Tracks strictly speaking. ;-)

Just heard a Loyiso and Bouga 2 shoes track on 5 just now.
:-Z Undoubtedly an R&B beat.
:-Z Kabelo doin his things as usual, except this time he includes English.
:-Z His flow on the track is clearly Rapping.

Who agrees this guy has been succesful for a longtime fooling cats into thinking he´s not part of the rap crowd?
I reckon he´ll succeed in walking the line for a long time!
Hate to admit but he was doin´ a tight job on the track though, nice pattern, definately not like the wack TKzee days when they were dropping them nursery rhymes.  8-)

General Discussion / Independents..some motivation
« on: December 02, 2004, 04:30:00 AM »
"Lil Jon & the Eastsideboyz´ latest LP, Crunk Juice, has set a record for the biggest first week sales for an independent album.

After selling 38,578 CD´s before the official November 16th release date, Crunk Juice moved and additional 363,117 copies to bring its 10-day total to a strong 401,705 LP´s according to Nielsen´s Soundscan.

That an album this ma**ive was financed, produced, marketed and distributed 100% independently makes a point bigger than the sales mark it set. It shows the sea change in the music industry which has given a level of power to independent labels never before seen."

:-o "Two decades after founding Def Jam Recordings, Russell Simmons is getting back into the label game with his new Russell Simmons Music Group imprint. The hip-hop mogul is looking to partner with one of the major labels, according to The New York Times. "

Should be interesting if this really happens, whilst Jiggaman takes over at Def Jam. Interesting dynamics/competition as they operate to meet their quotas.

General Discussion / The Biz of music

"Eminem has just signed a multi-million dollar publishing deal with EMI for his recent release, Encore.

Slim usually signs separate publishing deals for each album and opted for EMI for his fourth effort. The agreement provides EMI with the international rights to the album.

Sources say the deal is worth close to $7.5 million and includes the publishing rights to the 8 Mile soundtrack."
------------

That´s freaken clever. Never thought of that being a possibility.
Paid crazy regardless of the destined flop of that joint.
