He has a funny voice

Rapping hiphop style over 2step beats?
I think the same thing will happen to Hiphop and Kwaito. Actually when Zola dropped that was sort of Hiphop MC over dance beats and you will remember he even had Amu on one track on his first joint?

General Discussion / THE FATE OF MZANSI HIPHOP!!???

Who ever wrote this needs to get professional help, quickly.

We all know "RECORD COMPANIES ARE SHADY, In fact I think they on crack, just look at how they act" - QTIP

^^ that was ATCQ at their prime and at the same time signed to a major. So we know the industry has been whack for mad long but it is still possible to find artists who take this hiphop ish serious so the dude who wrote that is approaching 100% insane. You can sum up all he said as: RAP artsists are being treated more and more as pop artists - But we know that already

Wasnt KRS-one the same label as Britney Spears once?

the funniest part is the one about Ghostwriting:

Clipse - their ghostwriters needs to get a ghostwriter
Snoop - no ghostwriter can save his career, he is still saying stuff he was saying in 93: weed, weed, weed
Nas  - lol, wasnt Nas ghostwriting for LLCoolJ and Will Smith
D-Block - Jadakiss has hot punchlines, his ghostwriters must be dope. the only problem is their always kicking gangster rhymes and we all know they come from a middle-cla** suburb and not the grimy borough as they claim.
Eminem - he has a ghostwriter!? He needs to borrow his ghostwriter to D12 because their underground but wack.
Fabolous - punchline king, wonder who is writing for him. might be true
Biggie - ha ha
Static - ?
Joe Budden - he needs to get a new ghostwriter before def jam drops him
Nelly - cant even hear what he is saying most of the time.
Mase - now the Pastor wouldnt do such a thing...
Chingy - his ghostwriters needs to get a ghostwriter
Ludacris  - his ghostwriters needs to get a ghostwriter
Kanye West - true, but he is a producer
Trick Daddy -?
Ca**idy - still wack with a writer
Jay-Z  - didnt he ghostwrite for Bleek and Doctor Dre? How is he going to get a writer then? ha ha

General Discussion / what happened 2 the communist?

GREAT TOPIC

If the bolshevik revolution- was wrong then we cannot have an argument on the pros and cons of Communism
if the bolshevik revolution was wrong- then Mandela\Tambo\Hani\Slovo\Sisulu\Mbeki are a murderers for establishing our revolution
if the bolshevik revolution was wrong- then every single revolution preceeding and proceeding it was wrong.

We can argue whether it was right or wrong but we all have to agree it had disastrous effects which the affected countries are still trying to recover from. Any communist who refuses to acknowledge the failures of this system, or rather its implementation must be seen to have sinister intentions.

Stalin might  have considered killing millions of Russian people, 20th century slave labor and concentration camps just as "a statistic" but imagine a whole country´s population(such as our dear South Africa) wiped out just to force a political system to work. The people you have mentioned Govan Mbeki(RIP), Hani(RIP) & Slovo(RIP) might have been communist and revolutionary like the Reds but they were prepared to compromise and find ways to make the system work for the ordinary South Africa.
This approach has obviously has not been totally successful. Most South Africans are still in poverty, lack of health care, lack of education etc. Although crime and AIDS are killing the population, South Africa still enjoys "stability" only found in a few African countries (AS AFRICANS WE SHOULD ALL BE AIMING HIGHER THAN THIS!).

If you are a South Arican or an African for that matter, you have nothing to be happy about, you are product of the continent that suffered the slave trade, colonialism, genocide apartheid... etc(add your choice of the history of the last 400 years- its their history anyway)

the problem with capitalism is it is not honest, it uses god to mask its worship of MONEY
if you need to worship anything let it be the people (you call it the state) and Man rather than PROFIT MARGINS

Communism is alive and well

With the few 10 years of "democracy" that I have experienced, man I aint complaining. I agree that combined with the system of free trade that is Capitalism it is full of corruption, exploitation and so on. But we have seen that Communism is also capable of this AND even worse. I am not sure how well Communism is doing but Capitalism is alive and well!

So what is the unique solution for Africa given years of exploitation and so on? I dont know but rationally discussing our challenges on platforms like this is certainly a good start!

Curious to find out what everybody else thinks?

ps. The worst ex-Communist I have ever seen must be Mac Maharaj?!

hey u peeps dont know how to push...my mans bushman sold 150 000 in germany so he says...

Thats because about every kid in Germany is stinking rich(compared to developing nations) and this is the second largest market for black music next to the US.

But 150 000 is still a lot. I dont think even the big guns contantly have those numbers. The sales are going down here though like US due to downloading and stuff. I heard some kid was fined about ?2000 for using kazzalite!

have to be careful :-o

How many copies did Maximum sentence push cause that was dope and I´m looking for a copy.

Who is bushman by the way?

I disagree with the last 2 posts before me. No disrepect but I dont feel like thats the way sa hiphop or hiphop in general should be headed.

TNG you will be suprised that "overseas" hiphop is not controlled by the young guys. So dont knock the South African guys hustle. We have to start being proud of what we have and do things our ways. Sure we can look at Statesside for inspiration but please dont belittle our struggle.

Sure hiphop in the US has become an industry giant but it is not controlled by those who created it and those who live it. That is what I believe Rush was pointing out. "Old white man is running this Rap sh*t" -Mos Def

I dont have a problem with anyone getting their paper but all this Black Millionaire does not neccessarily mean GROWTH and "PLATINUM STATUS" does not guarantee quality of life. See Patrice Motsepe is a billionare, Cyril Ramaphosa and other numerous BLACK politicians but the lives of the ordinary people of South Africa has not improved.

US Hiphop or rather Commercial-Rap has created all these "Hiphop Moguls" like Puffy, Russel & Master P and they are getting their paper, we see them flossing on MTV Cribs but how do they give back to their communities. The "American Dream" is cool and we all want to have it but if you think about it, its not really possible and that´s why we have problems like kids who should be in school "hustling drugs", ghettos and all that.

Like I said no beef, but that´s how I see things. Please go ahead and state  yours because I am open for debate.

We cant start "our" industry on the wrong footing.

General Discussion / ´Papsak´ wine sales to be phased out

´Papsak´ wine sales to be phased out
Posted Tue, 15 Jun 2004

Cheap, low-quality wine sold in foil bags and inferior plastic containers would be phased out over the next year, the South African Wine and Brandy Company (SAWB) said on Tuesday.

The company´s chief executive, Johan van Rooyen, said in a statement that this step was necessary to curb alcohol abuse in South Africa, as well as to boost the image of the wine industry.

"The industry has taken a firm stand against the selling of wine to consumers in substandard and improper containers," he said.

"And the ´papsak´ (foil bag) culture should be eradicated from South African society altogether."

Alcohol abuse, social disintegration

He said the availability of cheap wine in foil and inferior plastic containers have contributed to alcohol abuse and social disintegration in the country, especially among poor and rural communities.

It was also damaging to the reputation and integrity of the wine industry.

A work group has been formed to draw up a plan and timeframe for getting rid of the foil bags and plastic containers.

Industry, govt support

"The SAWB not only has the support of the industry in this mission, but also that of local and national government who are aware of the situation with regards to the role these containers play in alcohol abuse and social breakdown."

About 17 percent of all wine bought in South Africa is sold in foil bags. This is about 48 million litres of wine.

The sale of liquor products in foil bags could be prohibited through the Trade Metrology Act, the leader of the work group, Andre Matthee said.

Self-supporting container

Under this law liquor may only be sold if is was pre-packed in a self-supporting container. If the container was not self-supporting, it had to be enclosed by a self-supporting container.

The container should also have a sealed, tamper-proof tap and should not have a capacity of more than five litres.

Quality of liquor

Certain restraints would also be put on liquor being sold in plastic containers, regulating not only the quality of container, but also the quality of the liquor in the container.

"The working group is of the opinion that the problems surrounding the packaging under discussion will eventually only be displaced if the quality of the wine in these containers is also addressed," Van Rooyen said.

He said if emphasis was placed not only on the containers, but also on the quality of liquor, it would make wine more expensive in the short term, but in the long term it would ensure that wine drinkers insisted on better quality products.

Sapa

my first reaction was like "so poor people shouldnt drink wine?"

farewell to the "papsak". I know a few people who are doing to be pissed! ha ha

you can listen to the chapelle show version on Kanye´s website(defjam/rocafella)

about Consequence´s joint, I´ve only heard 1 song, Wack Ni**as from Talib´s banging NEXT UP mixtape, and strangely they cut of his(Cons´) verse from there or I just dont remember his verse??
Apperently he cant hold down a solo but he´s got a nice flow, so that alone warrants a listen. Does anybody know whether he has any of his old ATCQ friends on this?
