That John Forte was incacerated: I don't know how I missed it. I was wondering why he has been so quiet, just randomly googled him earlier.
Has Wyclef said anything about this, how come I missed thi? howcome?

What A Difference
featuring Dinah Washington

I did the money thing Pa!
Like back in the Score
Who caught feelings when they heard John don't rap no more?
I've evolved to better things
I want homes instead of rings
I want sons with siblings who don't know what nigger means
I earned mine and went through it trying to make mine
And now I look at the game and absolutely hate rhyming
"Man, what is you talking, what's them things you're glamorizing"
Fed time make you hard? Look, God
I've seen it first hand like it was destined from the first strand
I bounced back and then immersed, man!
You see the only thing I'll ever miss is kisses from Mom
I don't club no more
Ain't no twisting my arm
I smoke a cigarrette, drink beer and write a new song
So that my spirit's here even if I'm gone and she said

Lord what a difference a day makes
What a difference a day makes
Lord what a difference a day makes
What a difference a day makes

I got enticed with the paper bags of cash and coins
And when it all came down I surpa**ed the storm
Remember fam none of you, forget I'm one of you
Love is love til this tiny planet stops to spin
So when we all come home, we gon' do it again
The soils fertile time to plant it
Jump them hurdles dammit
So high in fact it's hard to decipher where you landed
Was a product of mix breed
Center court, front row, hoping that the Knicks lead
Then it's back to work
When it comes to friendship, trust factors first
No matter how many tours, I never lack the thirst
It was good back to worse, worse to good
I broke a mirror last year, I think the curse has stood
But I gotta thank ya'
We sing now and the streets still say
That's gansta, gansta, gansta, gansta
What a difference a day makes.

Young Africa 2007 - Nthabi
28.7. - 7.8.2007

This year Young Africa will invite an artist called Nthabi (Nthabiseng Mofokeng), a 22-year-old rap artist who is considered to be one of the great promises for the future of South African hip-hop. Grown up in Soweto, near Johannesburg, rhyming and free-styling since her teens, Nthabi is the first female MC to cut a recording deal with a major record label in South Africa. At the end of 2006 her first EP From the Streets to the Lab was released and also distributed freely on the internet. It includes in total nine punchy and competently produced tracks. According to her own words Nthabi has been influenced not only by hip-hop culture, but also by the renowned Miriam Makeba and cla**ical music, for example.

Nthabi concerts:

28.7. Valkeakosken Työväen Musiikkitapahtuma (Festival of Workers' Music)
29.7. Faces Etnofestival, Karjaa
1.8. Kirjasto 10, Helsinki (Library 10)
2.8. Faces Afterparty: Tavastia-klubi, Helsinki
4.8. Fest Afrika: Telakka, Tampere
7.8. Redrum, Helsinki

Hip Hop Connected 2007

Established in 2005, HHC is steeped in promoting the richness of our very own very unique South African Hip Hop experience through promoting the talents that reflects our vast cultural diversity. That’s why the theme this year is “Nuff Respect”, paying tribute to the pioneers of Hip Hop as we map out the roots of our movement within our African heritage. This story traces back the oral tradition of story telling juxtaposing it with contemporary spoken-word or rapping, alongside contrasting graffiti with cave paintings; breakdancing with traditional dancing; turntabilism with drumming and so forth. Well-known Reggae artist Teba Shemba aka Social Worker is directing the talented cast, alongside JoAnne Petersen aka Controversy, project manager and Monishia Schoeman (Eavesdrop), together with Controversy and Teba developed the script, for this years show.

Its a spectacular performance combining various elements from different genres such as theater, disciplines within Hip Hop, traditional African drumming, marimba & tribal dancing along with attention-grabbing video backdrops.

The line-up of artists includes the likes of EJ Von Lyric (Godessa), Logikll Paradox (School of Thought), Brandon Petersen (Handbreak Turn B-Boyz), DLA (Driemanskap), DJ Cue (Bra**e Vannie Kaap), Abongile Kroza aka Extraterrestrial, traditional dancer Mpotsengshuipimg (Remix Dance Company), drummer Mafeje Thando and Siya Nomtshongwana (Abakhaya Marimba Band).

Besides for the on-stage performances which kicks off at 8pm, audiences are invited to come early to view the foyer area activities which will include one-on-one B-Boy battles, a photographic exhibition by Scott Williams and a painting exhibition by the immensely talented Leon Botha and stalls by, amongst others, Heal the Hood and the Faculty of Hip Hop, Bootleg and Butan. The Faculty of Hip Hop, DJ Eazy will be spinning tunes before and during the break. Watch out for the HHC stall which will include posters and t-shirts on sale.

Innovative, contemporary and energetic, this story is told in the language that the youth can relate to and it’s definitely a treat for the whole family.

"Let the spirit of Hip Hop rise up inside you!"
Last Emperor, Written: Bradley Van Sitters (Marketing & PR)

Media / SPIER CALLS 4 PROPOSALS
« on: May 15, 2007, 01:56:12 PM »
ANNOUNCES A CALL FOR PROPOSAL FOR THE

12th ANNUAL SPIER ARTS FESTIVAL

DEADLINE: 30 JUNE

The Africa Centre has recently taken responsibility for what was previously known as the Spier Arts Summer Season – a four-month performing arts festival.  The Summer Season, for the past 11 years, has produced a diverse offering of dance, theatre and music.   The Africa Centre has embarked on a process to re-conceptualise the content to align it with the core objectives of the AC and the Summer Season.

The objectives of the Summer Season were to:

·                     Deliver innovation and excellence in the performing arts;

·                     Showcase, promote and develop emerging South African artists;

·                     Provide opportunities for collaboration with Pan-African artists; and

·                     Build new audiences for performance art forms.

The AC seeks to:

·         Become a major international organization which celebrates both the visual and performance heritage of Africa;

·         Formulate innovative models to present, debate and encourage the production of art;

·         Explore the space and design of cultural encounter;

·         Provide broad access to the creative work, ideas of historic and contemporary African artists;

·         Be a place where communities throughout the continent can explore their heritage and histories; and

·         Re-examine the role, identity, transience, creation, performance and curation of art.

The Africa Centre (AC) is seeking proposals for new and original work for 12th Annual Spier Arts Festival. We are looking for innovative and creative performing arts productions to take audiences into the intellectual and emotional spaces they aren’t used to occupying. Content should dictate form as the proposals are not limited to the confines of Spier Estate or the Spier Amphitheatre.  Location/form should be defined by content and audience requirements exclusively.

Proposals that align to the objectives, as defined above, will be favourably considered.

Submission Details:

Companies/groups/ individuals wishing to submit proposals for performances should send invitations, background, photographs and/or videos/ DVD’s, contact information and a one page synopsis of a proposed project with a rough budget to:

General Discussion / THE BERGIE INCIDENT
« on: April 20, 2007, 09:47:26 AM »
Vroeg in die moere, 1am to be precise.
In my deep slumber I heard murmurs
Its sounded as foreign as Yiddish or russianbut as I slowly came to I coudl make out slurring in Isixhosa and afrikaans
it was a loud converstaion, coming from the carport, right nder my window,
I live on the second floor ( just like luka)
It had to be loud for me to hear it.
I'm beat after a hard long day of holding the forte coz my boss called in sick,TO DO lists of her tasks and mine all day
Anyways I lie awake but with my eyes shut hoping that the conversation will end or that they pa** out and sleep soon.
No such luck
I bolted to the window and opened it, looked down and I could see two shadows, one lying down in the corner, one sitting on my neigbours car smoking.
ME: "Please keep quiet or leave!"
BERGIE1: "s00rrry ma-m"
Sleeping bergie: 'argh...voetsek(muffled)"
BERGIE1: "sorry"

I let it slide,shut the window and the murmuring is lower.
back into the warmth of my bed and just as I start to fall sleep
They go off again, a story about one wanting to go and the other not wanting to leave...I'm not a mean person, I'm not gonna chase them away, if the carport is the place they found for the night that's cool with me, they can sleep there but they can't be making a noise at 1am and expect me not to say nothin, at tshi stage my housemate is also up, I'm fuming, I turn on my light, ya**s its bright! I open my window wide and they still going on talking, they  don't even notice me.
 I go to the kitchen, I get the biggest pot we have, the one we use when we have lotsa people over for dinner and I fill it up with ice cold water, running water (a luxury actually now that I think abt it)....my housemate is looking at me, what are you doing, I'm gonna pour it on them!!!!
I get to my window and they are still very loudly carrying on their convo, without syaing a word, I pour, first on BERGIE 1 on the car, and then on sleeping bergie...they get up, you would think they would run but they do so slowly,hurling profanities, jou ma se (everyone's mama's got one man, i ain't offended) while gathering a bottle and blanket...without saying a word, I watch them go,I can't help but feel I've done something bad, but at the same time, I didn't know what else i shud have done, considered calling the cops but what's the charge, disturbing the peace?....

I was up early this morning....
